IDW Transformers Thread

Yeah, it sucked that they had to limit Silverbolt to just one beast form. The wolf was by far the more recognizable part of him as a Fuzor, but flight was his best tactical advantage so they reformatted him as a condor and he looked completely different.

Cheetor I didn't mind so much, since his face changed drastically between his Transmetal and Transmetal 2 forms.

Was "War Within" Dreamwave or IDW?

Dreamwave
Thanks.

Corp, I know your earlier post said you hated most of the Dreamwave stuff that you've read, but if you haven't checked out at least Volume One of War Within, I recommend it. Furman's writing was still awesome.

I liked it. I think the stuff with the Transformers on Earth is better, but Stormbringer wasn't terrible or anything. It was a decent read with some really cool battles and a lot of technobabble.
Yes, and it takes place before the events of the first seires I think. Or at least before issue 5 and 6 when Megs and OP joined the series.
It takes place in different time periods. All of it is before Megatron and Optimus get to Earth in whichever mini-series that was, but some of it is way back in the distant past.

I did read some of War Within, since it was marketed as the secret origin of Optimus Prime, and it was indeed pretty good. I think it may even still be in IDW's continuity, since the Optimus of the distant past in Stormbringer seemed to have the exact same design as War Within's Optimus, who would've been from around the same period.

EDIT: Yep, it's still in continuity because Furman's masterminding the IDW stuff and IDW even reprinted WW:

IDW Publishing

After acquiring the rights to the Transformers licence, IDW Publishing reprinted the first volume of the War Within in trade paperback format on March 28, 2007, with the second volume following in May.

I'll probably pick up those trades now that I know they're in continuity. I stopped reading War Within after the first couple of issues because I think there were delays and I just wasn't really feeling Dreamwave's TF stuff in general.

Beast Wars: The Ascending #2 came out this week. Anyone read it? I thought it was great, even though it's looking less and less like there'll be any overlap between the comic's cast and the show's cast. Quite a big surprise as to what all of Magmatron's machinations have been about, too.

No problem. If you're a fan of any characters and see a Spotlight issue on them, feel free to get that, too. They're stand-alones (I said that already, but you said you didn't read my big post). I particularly enjoyed the Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod, and Galvatron ones. Oh, and Galvatron is a different guy from Megatron in the IDW continuity. He's also crazy.

Really? Sweet

Like just kind of crazy, or bat **** crazy?

This IDW G1 Series has been freaking amazing...

Infiltration
Escalation
Devastation
StormBringer
All the Spotlights
And Avengers/Transformers Crossover
are all part of a giant continuinty and it all makes sense...finally some good editing in comics.

the only transformers comic ive read is the beast wars the gathering series

So is anything much known about the original Holders of the Matrix and it's back story? Where it came from etc?

From my understanding it goes.

Primon to Prima to Prime Nova to Sentinel Prime to Optimus Prime

Is that right?

I think so, and from what we know one of them might be evil from what OP got out of Omega supream. Hmmm maybe Prime nova is the one Galvatron is working for?Wouldn't that be a shocker an evil prime:wow:

Could you elaborate a bit more?

I don't think they've covered who the Matrix-holders were before Sentinel Prime in any detail. I may not be remembering something, though. The Transformers comics all kind of blur together for me.

So they have just listed them, but not really talked about them right?

They've only listed maybe the last 4 or 5 Primes, and they made mention of Nova Prime being the first to make the combiners. But at the end of the OP spotlight he wants to dig deeper into the secret of Nova Prime I think.

Have you read the Infiltration and Escalation minis? Those are the main vein of stuff for the G1 TFs, and they put everything in better context.
