If the JLA gets Made how would you design the Costumes?????

I want them to stay more true to the comics, colorful costumes and all, just made from some great and expensive material instead of crappy spandex or rubber. But I doubt they'll do that. I'm not really expecting that either. As long as they look alright, just hopefully they don't shave as much color from them as Fox did with the X-Men.

X-Men's a whole different animal, so you really have nothing to fear as far as I'm concerned.

Flash, Superman and GL can just use the thicker FF/SR/Spiderman material and remain faithful while still being tasteful. Batman is a question mark; they can either use the aforementioned material and go more traditional or stick with the black "rubber" look. Aquaman and Wonder Woman are different 'cause their looks will probably have a more ancient, military type looks (although for the record I DESPISE that take on Aquaman, but I'm just guessing they'll go that way). MM can go a buncha different directions and he's got some room to work with since he's an alien and all.

Does anyone else worry that the costumes may end up looking ridiculous? 7 characters each dressed differently with outfits canvasing almost the entire colour spectrum, from a design perspective I find it difficult to see it working well. Individual films you can get away with costumes, but I struggle to see it working in an ensemble piece.

The Justice League is a bright, hopeful group of heroes. Their costumes can reflect that and not appear too ridiculous. There's going to be some cheese there, but that's part of the JLA.

That's exacly why we got the X-Men uniforms we did. And for that context, it was necessary, IMO.

However, if handled right, JLA should be able to make it work if the colors and materials are tasteful. For example, many people have made manips of Christian Bale and Brandon Routh in costume and they look great together. So I guess it just comes down to a good costume designer.

Well I like the classic top part of WW play by Lynda Carter!
Maybe in a more "armor" style, but I really love this top part :D and mix with that battle skirt and some cool boots (as the ones of the manga statue without the wings) will perfect to me

The only way I can see the costumes working is if they are desaturated to an extent that the colour is more 'implied' and isn't 'in your face' as it were. And yes many manips are good (and kudos to you folks ), but there's a big difference between 2 and 7.

I don't exactly know what you mean by "implied", but the colors definitely need to be toned down and can't be too over-the-top. It's definitely a challenge.

When I say 'implied', I'm saying neutral tones with splashes of colour throughout, that's probably the best way I can describe it.

Superman wise, I would say a variation of the basics, but keep the colors bright, but not Donner bright

Man Brandon looks perfect there. **** You WB If He Does Not Get To Wear This Costume And Get A Chance To Fly One More Time!

About Green Lanterns costume, Has anybody mentioned the Kyle Rayer costime? It seems a little more like a mix between armour and spandex which would be a change from most of the cast wearing just spandex, I hear Adam Brody may have been cast as the Flash but he could definitly play Kyle Raynor

I'm fairly certain we won't see anyone in spandex in this film. For the more form-fitting costumes, we'll most likely see something like FF/SR/Spiderman - that thicker, textured material which approximates the comics costumes very well.

But your idea about incorporating Kyle's more armor-like suit is definitely possible. Although I personally believe you could get away with just the aforementioned material since GL can protect himself with the ring.

I think thats what people mean when they say spandex. I doubt anyone wants spandex in live action.

^ I'm sure you'll find a few who are perfectly ok with bright colours and spandex. :woot:

Weren't the Spider-Man suits in the movie made of bright colored spandex?
And the Fantastic Four ones?

They weren't exactly bright but their coloring was fine.

The colours were desaturated quite a bit.

Give them this:

Usually when people say they want a comic accurate costume, others make fun of them for wanting 'spandex', even if they never mention the word. The belief that some comic fans want costumes made out of cheap spandex comes solely from people who can't handle that their favourite comic book movies are being 'attacked' because of a costume. I've seen it in the Dark Knight discussion boards. Heaven forbid you say you want an alternative to rubber in there :wow:

Can we at least agree, Adam West's suit is made from a different material as Tobey's? If you can't make that distinction, I don't know what to tell you.
The Spider-Man costume was just made with more money and a muscle suit underneath.

Spider-Man's costume was made of neoprene. Same goes for the costumes in Fantastic Four.

Spandex isn't used in big budget movies, and I don't expect it to be.

Find me a web page where someone from the costume departement of the F4 movie says it's neoprene...
