If you could write/illustrate any Marvel title, what would it be?

Well, I'd probably still situate him in the centre of New York city, so he'd be in an appartment. Still, it'd be pretty normal flat, so you'd get the same issues. Thanks for the kind words also.

I would want to write Ultimate X-Men but not packed with all the same old 616ers on the team or just a mutant title that is not in canon with the rest of the MU.

One idea I had, which isn't really feasible but would be really cool for me personally, is a sort of condensed version of the current Ultimate books.

Something JQ recently said is that he wants to bring the Ultimate Titles closely together, so that they follow a similar timeline, and you really feel their 'shared universe'. I'm sort of playing on that...

the book would just be called 'Ultimate'.

It would incorporate anywhere from two to five multiple plot strands in one issue, and would itself be three times the size of a regular issue. (probably bi- or tri-monthly then, lol).

Main characters would be UXM, US-M, UFF, and ULTIMATES. I'd pick it up from the point where Peter joins the Ultimates, so that you have that tie-in between him and the team, while also allowing him some solo freedom.

The teams would more or less keep to themselves, but the essence of the book would be that they are living in the same world, in the same city too - so the effects of, say, the Fantastic Four's most recent battle would be felt by the X-Men. Perhaps, there's a mutant enemy who is dealt with by the Ultimates but the X-Men become involved because... well, it's a mutant.

In many ways I guess it'd feel like a team-up book, but I really feel it'd be a much more cohesive environment for the stories to take place. A constantly evolving universe.

(oh, and i'd figure out a way of introducing Dr. Strange properly, not like he was introdduced in USM - i'd go much more in-depth about the elements of his character, the magical side of him... how Magic is regarded in the Ultimate U...)

Quasar, Protector of the Universe
Art by Mike Wieringo

Why Wieringo above someone like Greg Capullo (who did an in my opinion phenomal run on the original Quasar series)? Well, because Capullo's work hasn't really been up to that level in a while now, and I loved Wieringo's redition in Fantastic Four. It's got the colorful/cartoonish aspect while also having a great story-telling aspect to it as well. The art isn't for everybody, but it certainly suits me fine.

Now comes the story aspect of it. First off, I'd completely ignore the whole Ego-seed thing like most writers have already done, since I'd have Quasar on Earth a few times. Secondly, I'd bring Makkari back as one of his chief supporting characters. Heck, I'd probably largely make it into a buddy book as I loved the Quasar/Makkari friendship. Obviously, Fast Foward (aka Barry Allen in the Marvel Universe) would get a cameo from time to time as he moves in with Quasar and Mak's in their old digs on Earth, since he lost his powers (in a nice little nod to DC's removal of the Speed Force).

The story-lines would pretty much be revolving as one would settle on Earth while another would take the guys into space. For the sake of trying to keep his contuinity from being convoluted, I'd pretty much forget about the whole seperate world (housing the folks from the New Universe and Quaz's ex Kayla) still orbiting around Earth. I wouldn't destroy it or anything, I just wouldn't mention it again (considering I thought that whole thing was stupid anyway).

I'd also probably give Quasar his share of love-interests ranging from his neighbour to the intergalactic hotties of the Belta planet in Quadrant Seven of the Meteoro System (or something like that). Thing is that unlike other superheroes he was never all that worried about his secret identity (he revealed it to his colleagues fairly quickly and his mom, dad and sister know as well) so I'd keep that going for his Earth contacts (after all, people from space wouldn't even care). What would it be like to live next to a cosmically powered superhero and his superspeedster buddy?

And then there's Ben Grimm and the Fantastic Four. If there was one thing I always liked, it was Quasar's unique relationship with the hero community. Nobody actively dislikes Quaz, and one of his best friends is the ever lovable blue-eyed Thing. They had a nice little dynamic as card-playing buddies and Quasar lived in the Baxter Building for quite a while. I'd have Ben Grimm cameo a few times when Quasar and Makkari are on Earth for a storyarc.

There's also Captain America and the Avengers. Quasar was in some ways a lot like Justice as written by Busiek in his Avengers run. He looks up to the Avengers and respects Captain America even more. The cool thing is, Captain America respects him a lot too. They always had a nice friendship that I would play up from time to time as Cap calls him in when the going can get a little too tough. I wouldn't have him join the Avengers though, and I'd even expect Quaz to be a bit wary of the new team at first, but quickly and easily accepting them.

We've also got a little appearance from Captain Mar-Vell (the original one) and Starfox from time to time, with the first being the previous Protector and acting as an example to Quasar. Quasar would find a lot of strength in some sparringly used mentorring by the deceased hero (easily done through the Quantum Bands), but I also wouldn't overdo it. Quasar doesn't need mentorring all that often anymore. Starfox would basically just be Quaz and Mak's drinking buddy in space.

Lest we also forget Epoch, the child/clone of Eon, who's growing into being the best little cosmic entity he/she/it can be. Epoch would be Quasar's Oracle (from DC) as she's the cosmically aware one. I'd refrain from finally giving Quasar that vaunted cosmic awareness since I think it'd mess him up a bit, being just a little too powerful for my taste.

So we've got our buddy book, we've got our love interests and soap opera, some sci-fi elements as Quasar regularly heads out into space, and I'd probably intro some fantasy elements as well, although I'd refrain from getting him into mythological stuff. Thing is, the guy has died twice now and came back almost on pure willpower, so a bit of fantasy could work.

Mostly though, I'd be showing that Quasar isn't just some two-bit Green Lantern rip-off by exemplifying the uniqueness of both his power in the MU and his station/role in the cosmic grouping in the Marvel Universe.

I'm not liking the concept at all not a bit of it, and adding in DC characters is pretty uncalled for.

Sorry it sucks.

The Shocker: Legit. Best treatment The Shocker has ever gotten.

Ditto to that I read that fan fic and was blown away by how f--king good it was.

i had an idea for a spider-man story called "King Spider." although it's a little too much like "Enemy of the State" and "Onslaught"

basically it would have Judas Traveller resurfacing. In an effort to take his revenge on Spiderman he captures him and psionically tortures him by exposing him to every little dark, evil, angry thought that has ever come to Peter's head. This causes Peter to snap, and as a result the anger takes over. He breaks free and kills Traveller, leaving him there and not telling anybody. Over the next few weeks his attitude becomes darker, angrier. He's less responsible, ignoring more and more crimes, instead he begins to abuse his power. When MJ finds out she' disgusted and after a terrible, almost violent argument she leaves. Fed up with the endless cycle he's found himself in he goes right to the source and works his way right into the New York crime syndicate. From there he quickly rises in power, taking over a large percentage of organized crime, utilizing his intelligence to acheive devious ends, while amassing a small army of thugs through sheer intimidation. Finally, in a climactic scene he beats the Kingpin to a pulp and establishes himself as New York's Kingpin of crime, the "King Spider." This all takes about the course of a year through all three titles.

The next half a year or maybe even a year, the titles would be divided up in focus..."Amazing" would follow Peter and explore his new world as the King Spider, his interactions with former enemies and how his outlook has changed. "Sensational" would follow the heroes of the Marvel U., particularly the ones closest to Spiderman some of whome we havent seen in a while...(Black Cat, Cap, Daredevil, Human Torche, Luke Cage, Prowler, Puma, etc.) and how they go about bringing him down, maybe even have some villains involved. "Friendly Neighborhood" would focus on Peter's loved ones and friends (MJ, May, Liz, Flash, Johna, Robbie, etc.) and how they're coping with this excruciating turn of events.

Eventually they'd bring him down in a climactic battle where we really see Spiderman unleashed and what he's really capable of, (I'm thinking maybe he'd kill Rocket Racer). The heroes discover this isn't some sort of hypnotic trance or mind control. Traveller actually managed to turn Spiderman evil. So in a desperate effort, they contact a psychic, (probably Emma Frost or Rachel Summers) and have them erase Peter's memory of the whole year and a half or two, so his mind's back to where it was before Traveller's revenge and he doesn't remember anything from his evil time. Maybe even have the story start there, he's captured and tortured by Traveller, then blacks out and he's in a room surrounded by the hereos with no memory of the past two years after the torture. But the damage has been done far worse than anybody could imagine. The entire hero community can't look at him the same and he's morally condemned for actions he can't even remember.

I'm very proud of this idea, but the problm besides its similarities to the afformentioned stories is that it would leave Spiderman, in readers' eyes, utterly irredeemable. He'd no longer be likeable.

Not feeling it, sounds like something Joey Q would approve.

NEW
EXCALIBER

Roster:

Union Jack
Captain Brittain
Black Knight
Blazing Skull
Silver Sable
Sabra
Fantomax
El Aguilla
Spitfire

Premise:

Basically it's the European Avengers, with Union Jack, Captain Brittain and Black Knight being the equivalent of Cap, Tony and Thor for the Avengers.

I feel Union Jack in particular is ripe for a revival and would lead this version of Excaliber, with Cap'n Brit filling the Thor role of team power house and Dane Whitman with his great intellect being the brains of the group.

I'd use villians like Moses Magnum and Count Nefaria, powerhouse bad guys who like Task Master have major potential.

:(

sounds cool except u stated the problem urself. its like a european version of the avengers. this was the main problem with alpha flight, what did they really have going for them except they were just canadian.

but i do like who you have on ur team and the oldschool villains.

Well the thing I was going for by comparing them to the Avengers, was the level of importance they have.

Heh.

I know you already hate Quasar anyway. 'It sucks' though is hardly constructive criticism, and if you knew anything about Fast Foward, you'd know that he isn't just 'adding in a DC character'. Fast Foward is a homage to Barry Allen, a homage that I personally really liked.

But really, considering I typed about 800 words on that baby, I'd prefer some more meat to your criticism deemar. What is it you don't like, specifically? There's enough stuff in there you could set your teeth in. You dislike his connection with Ben Grimm? Hate the 'no secret identity' aspect? What?

Here are some of mine but I know I have posted these before.....

Spider-man: No totem god, no stingers, no Gwen sleeping with Norman....Taking Spidey back to basics means one thing. seriously upgrading his villians. I would have all his villains team up to form the Sinister Syndicate and then use their combined knowledge and abilities to help each other out.

X-men: I would have to make Marvel commit to only one Xmen book if I was to write it. The team would be everyone who was ever an X-men with Scott and Storm as the leaders. I would bring back the 3 million mutants and have the Xmen become a global police force(yes I am bringing back the XSE) for a minority that is still hated and killed.

Submariner: I would have terrorists attack Atlantis and Namor declare war on terror. This would lead to him attacking countries that support terrorism and not giving a damn about what the UN or the US has to say. First on Namor's hit list...Latveria.

Loki: Tales of the Mischeif Maker.

This would be a continuing MAX series centering around Loki. Basically, it would follow him around as he goes about his buisness. His status would shift between hero and villain depending on the nature of the story. It would sort of show that he's not a completely horrible person. He just really hates his adoptive family. Most of the time, he's simply impish, mischevious, pulling pranks on people, but all in all good natured. But, when it comes to Asgard, and his adoptive family in particular, that's when he gets nasty. The series would help to create a real structure in regards to Marvel's cosmic/magic worlds. All the gods of mythology know each other and interact regularly. The gods of mythology are not bound to any single planet, seeing as how their realms are outside of time and space as we know it. So, Olympus and Asgard are as easily accesible from the Kree homeworld as they are from Earth. It's just that many lack the means to go there besides those on Earth (the rainbow bridge, climbing mount olympus, etc.). Loki is not one of thse people, and so expect to see him traveling to alien worlds often. The stories would both explore Loki as a character and emphasise why he was the baddie who brought The Avengers together. Scenes of deep introspection would be followed by Loki being the true lord of mischeif that he is. Through the series, he would change a bit and grow a bit, but he'd still keep the same basic nature. Alot of the character developement would reflect on his relationship with Odin, Thor, and other Asgardians, and many of them would apear in the series in both hostile and more friendly situations. I would also introduce a supporting cast for Loki, who would pretty much be the characters who apear most in the series besides Loki. They are:

Hecate: The Greek goddess of the shadows. She's very inteligent, practical, and has a very dry wit. She's basically Loki's best friend, both of them being outsiders amungst their respective pantheons. Loki usually helps Hecate to lighten up when she's being overly serious, and Hecate is usually the one to tell Loki to cut the crap when he's being a malevolent ******* to his family.

Fenris Wolf: Loki's lycanthropic son. After a major traumatic event that he has yet to share with anyone, Fenris became a pacifist, forsaking his violent past. He has taken up human form (in which he looks remarkably like Ron Pearlman), and currently lives in L.A. with his computer nerd roomate Trey and his cat, Rumplestiltskin.

Anubis: One of Loki's other few friends. Anubis is very short tempered and is known for a regular sullen atitude. However, he has been known to laugh at a good joke every now and then.

Tess Black: Tess is a stock trader in New York City. She is also Loki's illigitimate child. While Loki does not want to let Tess know that he is her father, he does often assume the form of a mortal and pose as a bartender at a bar she frequents as a means of getting to know her.

Dr. Sarah Kingsly: A therapist in London that Loki (pretending to be human) sometimes speaks with. He usually goes to her after a failed atempt to humiliate or destroy Thor.

Some ideas for Loki stories:

The Final Fronteir: Loki goes into space and starts toying with the Shi'Ar empirial gaurd while on a deep space mission.

Family Matters: Loki goes to visit with each of his children on his wedding anaversary.

A day in the life of Tess Black: As the tittle says, it is a day in the life of Tess Black, with Loki gaurding her from behind the scenes.

Bitter reunion: Loki returns to Asgard for the first time in years to attend the funeral of his childhood teacher.

Battle of Wits: Loki visits the home of the greek gods, and ends up challanging Athena to a game show-esque battle of the minds.

Mankind's Doom: Dr. Doom summons Loki to help him destroy the cursed heroes of America, but Loki decides to mess with Doom in the worst way possible: Showing Doom his true self.

Fear and Loathing in the etherial planes: Hecate and Loki go on a road trip through the many universes, stopping everywhere from Heaven to the Ultimate Universe. This would be a continuing arc, and we'd see alot of characters from other universes. We'd even get breif cameos from the Exiles, and we'd catch as much of a glimps of the DC universe that we could without violating copyright.

The road to hell: When Loki's latest scheme to mess with Thor goes awry, the two of them are trapped in Hell together and must depend on one another to survive and make it back to the Earth plane.

The minds of Gods: After his experiance in Hell, fighting side by side with Thor, Loki goes to his therapist to talk about what happened.

Omerta: When Loki pisses off a demonic organized crime syndicate, they retaliate by kidnapping his daughter, Tess. Let's just say, Loki ain't happy.

False profets: A cult leader claming to be Loki re-incarnate begins preaching violence and hatred to his congragation. Loki shows up to one of his sermons, willing to open up a bit of a debate.

Night on the Town: Loki, Hecate, and Anubis have a night on Las Vegas to party it up, and find Anubis a girl.

"Hello, my name is Loki....": Loki's therapist suggests that Loki go to a support group for people who have family issues that she runs.

Journey: Loki goes on a soul searching sojurn in the himilayas.

The Final Duel: Loki returns, having refreshed and further trained himself in mind, body, and spirit, and challenges Thor to a final confrontation. Only one will survive.

I got such a Neil Gaiman's Sandman vibe from that Q. I'd definitely read that.

Thanks. After coming up with the ideas, it seems to me like Sandman with a much more interesting main character. And, I'm not meaning that as an insult. I mean, even Gaiman admits that Dream is rather dull by himself.

I wouldn't mind writing Exiles just so I could go crazy and tell any story i wanted.

Outside of the therapist, it sounds pretty good. I can't see Loki ever deigning to take advice or share his problems with some human shrink. Maybe if it were another deity whom he inadvertently developed this weird, doctor/patient relationship with. The Enchantress, perhaps.

I'd write Spider-Man, and have Norman Osborn become an actual good villain again by lessening his obsession with Peter and having him make a play for Kingpin of NYC:up: It'd confuse Spidey and have him really fear Norman as now he's working with his brain and not just out for Pete. Much more dangerous that way

Hmmm. Good point. I suppose his main reason for using a human psychiatrist would be for anonymity. If he goes to another god, word might spread. I mean, even with all the pantheons, the godly community is still relatively small.

True, but that's why the Enchantress would be ideal. She's a pariah to the Asgardians herself, and she can empathize since her plans for domination of whichever god she's after that week almost always fail.

I would write the Ghost Rider series. :ghost:

It would be dark and mature and tie in the Magical parts of the Mrvel Universe with the Mutant one.
I would create a new Spirit of Vengance, not connected to Blaze. (They have done almost everything to him!) He would start out thinking that his powers are mutant based, and have to deal with them from that point of view. (With all the mutant hype, what would you think if you could do things others could not?) The main villian would be a fallen angel who tries to blur the lines of right and wrong for Ghost Rider. This would lead him into the main players in the Marvel Universe both mutant and magical, as well as heros and vilians.
His powers would not be out of his control, and there would not be a multiple personality thing. It would be him and his choices, and most importantly his consiquences..
And just for fun have his transportation be a 69 GTO :)

Project: Liberty

This would take place in the Ultimate Universe as a 6 to 12 ish miniseries that would take place in the late 50's early 60's. the story would be a combination of Superheroes and Mission: Impossible where they would be called for by an unseen leader and given their missions

The Patriot (Jeff Mace reporter for the daily bugle), The Whizzer (Dr. Bob Frank), Miss America (Madeline Frank), Thin Man (Explorer Bruce D ickson), and The Destroyer (Keen Marlow) were all apart of an operation that tried to recreate the super-solider program. The program worked giving each member superpowers only not the ones that captain America got.

Bob Frank gained the capacity to move at superhuman speed.

Bob’s wife Madeline gained superhuman strength, a high degree of durability, and the power of flight.

Bruce D ickson the ability to become paper-thin at will as well as the ability to stretch his body.

Jeff Mace agility, strength, speed, endurance, and reaction time superior to any Olympic athlete who ever competed.

Keen Marlow possesses superhuman strength, dense muscle and bone tissue, and steel-hard skin.
