I watch too many mysteries and cop shows to think that the money wouldn't play a role in the investigation.

That's my only reason not to take it.

If the person had several thousand dollars on him, then it probably wasn't his to begin with. If you are going to take it just take the money and don't report the body. That way if you report the body and it is later found out that someone ID'ed him as the thief, the cops will be waking YOU up in the middle of the night asking questions. But if you don't report the body and the cops find it, body is ID'ed as the thief, but theres no cash and no suspects, leaving you in the clear. So either you take it and run, or just leave it alone alltogether, no sense in reporting the body and the cash, just more trouble for you having to talk with police and everything. **** that.
