I like to think about the amazing opportunity for the information and culutral exchange. I'd have so many questions, and I'd love to talk politics with them.

I really hope we make first contact before I die. The human race isn't ready for it yet, but if 50 years from now an alien ship lands on earth and says "We come in peace" I will be bouncing off the walls.

It's highly unlikely that the Indepandance Day scenario would take place. Why would they want our planet? There are hundreds of billions of galaxies full of them. The only reason I can think they'd kill us is if they think we are a danger to the galaxy because were so hostile.

I suspect that most interstellar traveling species are rather enlightened and peaceful. Otherwise they probably would have annihilated themselves prior to their technology advancing enough for them to go interstellar. not to mention when an entire species works together using their resources for space travel their space baring technology will move faster as opposed to a species who is divided and using it's resources to kill each other and patrol borders.
