If you were to start a new series of Superman movies, what would your ideas be? What villains would you use? What interesting plot points would you have in mind? :supes:

sticking to the SR mould.

dont understand why they went with that crazy plot and why the themes that the film was supposed to go with. superman struggling to fit in to a world that has learned to get on without him was not explored.
lex's plot and the way superman stops it was stupid and ilogical.
why didnt the story just be....

that lex is well established in metropolis with lexcorp pretty much being the governing power. he has manipulated and charmed the people. and holds all the power and admiration. mainly due to him raiding the FOS and using the information and technology to gain a massive advantage in science etc. lex knows it all and has built some supertechnology with it.
lex finally has the stature he has always wanted. the almost godlike reverence superman had before he left.
superman returns to see his arch rival in this favourable position and knows that lex's new image is a facade but the people, like lois lane wrote in her prize winning report have learned to get along without him and lex through propaganda has reinforced this notion making it even tougher on superman to fit back in. the people are on lex's side.
but supermans return brings out luthor's obsession to destroy him and so armed with kryptonian info and technology he sets out to destroy superman forever.

feel free to add details.
lets turn this thread into the story that superman returns shouldve been.

Makin a movie set Supermans early days, not an origin story but set three months after Superman has appeared the world is in awe of him while the government is wary on whether they can trust him....

Avoiding Bryan Singer like the plague! The guy ignores source material too much, and while a variations are sometimes necessary, and acutally better, he still modified Xmen too much, and now he's ignoring Superman source material.

JUst like singer I would mirror everything from..................STAS/JLA/JLU. Make him vulnerable to things other than kryptonite and Lois such as gases and powerful explosives.

Make Superman the animated series into live action, and get Paul Dini to write the script!

Just make Superman: Birthright.

Badda bing, badda boom.
I agree. Ideal combination of origin story/re-establishment (re-introduction) of characters, huge action pieces, plus, it has a vague connection to TV's Smallville. Who wouldn't be happy with it?

I'd like to see it done in parts:

Part one would start on Krypton and it would use John Byrne's version. It would be like a mini-Logan's Run with Jor-el as it's central figure. We would get to see the huge golden spires that house entire cities and these spires would be set in the middle of lush greenery. We would see that Krypton has advanced to the point where their culture has become repressive and stifling. Jor-el's story would still be that of trying to get the ruling body to see that the world is about to self destruct but it would also be about how he sees this civilizaton as dying as well. His story would include action and drama as he uses subterfuge to steal his child from the government run birthing matrices and then has to run from the law with his child to brign it back to his lab to launch it to Earth. It could have the moving scene from the end of MOS 1 where he has to convince Lara that this is the right decision.

Part 2 would be brief (we already did the Norman Rockwell thing in STM). It would involve the Kents discovering the matrix containing the child and skip ahead to him slowly discovering his abilities. Including a scene where he, as a teenager, discovers his ability to fly.

Part 4 Would involve showing Clark traveling the world and maybe showing the one bit from Birthright that I really like.. the one with that takes place in Africa. It would establish that he's trying to perform his super deeds in secret. Then it would take him to Metropolis where we would again visit Byrne's MOS where an uncostumed Clark saves a crashing space shuttle in full view of a huge crowd. He then would have to return to Smallville to sort it all out with his adopted parents. They would see the article written by Lois and devise the Superman identity.

Hell... forget a movie... let me just take all the different parts of comics continuity and forge it into one and I'll do a comics run myself.

Actually, this is one idea.. .another involves Apokolips.

No way, Superman: Birthright is not all that, in fact, it´s not a great origin story, not with the all "Invasion of the Kryptonians".

I´m writing a script for the first movie of Superman, and it has bits and pieces of Byrne´s Man of Steel, Superman for all Seasons, Birthright and Smallville, and my original take on keeping all tied up.
The main plot is from Superman for all Seasons, but with big changes in the main story (the all "woman in love with Superman" part was scrapped from the get go, and there is the addition of John Corben as an important player).

I'd make ot today. I'd make it modern. Superman of 2006. Returns is wonderful, but it's Superman of the 40's and 70's.

Part of me would love a 40's version of Superman. people arent as jaded as today and if it were a period piece might be more interested from a historic perspective.

If I were doing a modern version (I just told my husband this a coupole days ago.)

Id nix the jason storyline. Its out. And Clark's background in Smallville is pretty much universally known. So I wouldnt even focus on that at all. (Just a visit to mom maybe)
And Id make Clark more interesting by showing him chasing down stories, and also , donating time as a Big brother, maybe to a kid whose brother was killed by drug gangs and Clark wants to help the trouble kid back on the straight and narrow.

Then Lois could discover some things about Clark to respect. Anyway, I would try to focus on real life aspects of Clark kent and Superman. Thats one thing the 50's tv show did really well. (When they didnt have campy crooks anyway.) The drug gang could be angry at Superman for busting up their empire and the real head could be determined to get rid of Superman. Thus a search for some kryptonite....

Superman meanwhile could fight some natural disasters which could make for some exciting action. Like katrina??? Instead of Luthor all the time.

Just some quick thoughts. This is what Id like to see and not necessarily the pre teens the producers want to appeal to.

My version of President Lex mixed with Smallville and the Bryne vision. Not out dated singer rubbish that belongs in an alternate 1983! The story: Lex wins a 2nd term. During the 1st term CK was worried what evils Lex would do, but Lex proved himself a changed man. Or so CK thinks. Lex's plan is to turn Clark's life upside down, make him suffer and get him out of the way so he can rule the world. Because as president, Lex has discovered that Clark is Superman. (Although we wont know that for sure til the end of the movie!) He then goes on to make Clark's greatest fear a reality by making him an outcast that is feard by America and the world. Lex does this by creating international incidents in which Supes gets involved. Through deception and propaganda Supes is made to look the bad guy. Unamerican. unpatriotic and even inhuman. The world (but not his friends and surviving family) turns against him. People question his existance and like the death of clark kent/conduit story he gives up being superman. To make matters worse Lex sends 3 villains after him. Armed with the knowledge that CK is Supes and they attack his friends & family. CK considers leaving to live at the fortress giving his life up as CK aswell. But that changes when the spirit of the long dead Jonathan Kent visits him. He reminds his son of what it means to be a hero. Because he cant forget his responsibilities or run away when the world needs him the most. Even though he may feel alone he has duty he cant walk away from. He's an inspiration to the world and makes it a better place Because when he became Superman he became the personification of Truth, of Justice and not just the American way but the humane way! Someone we can all be like if we choose to. He is our greatest hero. He is Superman Forever and he must clear his name and fight Lex to save the world. (Stick that in your pipe singer! I read the comics, watch ALL the shows and films cos im a fan of the character and the whole mythology not just the 50's show and Donnners original. Thats why your film sucked so bad and PotC2 made a Billion dollars! and please dont make a sequel featuring Lex teaming with Zod and Brainiac. thats so unoriginal!)

Nice choice: Ever since I read it, I've always liked this version of the origin way better than Byrne's (I mean really, if Krypton was such a horrible place like it is in Man of Steel, why the hell would Kal-El want to commemorate it? It's like someone escaping from 1940s Poland and then making a Swastika his logo) And although I really enjoyed the personal charm in Superman for All Seasons, it felt a bit anachronistic, there are a lot of character interactions that are never really explained (just why exactly does Superman automatically hate Lex even before his evil schemes?), and I thought that Lois was way too cynical and borderline *****y.

Anyway, I'm working on what my idea for a movie/movies would be, taking them from a fanfic series I've been working on. Just trying to trim it down into a readable outline, without just cutting it down to (Part 1: origin story, Part 2: Superman fights this guy, Part 3: Superman fights these guys, etc)
