That Movie Was One Of The Sickest, Baddest, Sweetest, Intense Movies I Have Ever Seen!!! Blood Was Everywhere!!! The Fighting Was Amazing!!! I Got Chills Like 5 Times And I Tensed Up During The Many Battle Scenes!!! This Is A Must See, Must See Movie!!!! I Cant Wait To See It Again!!
me too:up:

I loved the movie. Was kind of upset when I read reviews and they said they felt the movie was dated. The ideals portrayed in that movie of patriotism, commoradory (sp?), honor and courage should be timeless so it was upsetting that people would view it as being passe'. Really loved the movie tho.

I just came back from seing this movie a second time. It was better than when I saw it last night. The theater was packed, and the last show is at 1:30. I did not think this movie would be so well received. Some women are asking me if they should go see it. I say yes, just because of queen Gorgo. Evry women who's ex boyfriend has cheated on them will love the queen. She is a bad ass.So Ladies see her do, what most of you think after an ex boyfriend has done you wrong. By the way the yahoo user reviews are still showing an A- after 767 reviewers.

(to topic starter) Thanks for spoiling the movie for me you stupid jerk. :cmad: I hope you're happy.

Now I have no reason to see this.

Please man, if you really wanna see the movie you will, if not don't go because of a so call spoiler. I guess I must have explained the whole movie in that one post huh? I'll say it again MODERATOR Please edit and put a spoiler warning for me.

First off, shouldn't this forum be flooded with an overload of movie reviews per hour at this point? Or is everyone on SHH! too busy disecting the new Spider-man trailer to notice?

Anyways, I thought 300 had some of the most beutiful (which is the prefered adjective at this point) choreography iv'e ever seen, I want the oscars next year to recognize this. I wish LORT could've used the same action style for it would've made the films that much better. Loved the epic pwnage and war speeches:woot:

I think this type of movie making would best suit comic book turn to movies. I mean in X-3 I sure would have loved to see a sentinel. This new style is best for comic books, becuase comic books are full of over the top and amazing things. You know what sometimes I feel some fight scene should be slowed down. If not slowed down, don't have the camera so close that my eyes has to start searching for what is going on.Batman Begins was a perfect example of a fight scene gone bad. I hope Zack Snyder makes more of these over top flicks.By the way ghostrider could of been a great flick as well, don't know what happen.

WTf, why see it now when I know the main character is going to be dead. It's like watching the gladiator, spartacus, the last matrix etc. knowing the hero's just going to die. wtf. No surprise or shock value anymore... **** this is why I'm going to stop reading movie news online. Use. Common. Sense. and don't post such a huge spoiler like that ever again please.

here's a cool trailer I saw btw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyJSZ5JoTKI

If you know anything about history or have any sense and logic you will know that Leonidas dies, it isnt our fault you are an uneducated buffoon.

Your not a man if you dont see this. See for pure fact that you can say yes i saw it and yes I want to see it again.

Yes, that's what I said about women too - http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/03/07/why-women-should-go-see-300/

Glad you liked it. I think it gets better and better everytime you see it... unless it gets up to 5 times (like me). I gotta wait a few weeks. :woot:

I saw the movie and wow, it was great, i only hoped it would be a littile bit longer than 2 hours, but that's ok.Anyways, i really don't understand how is it possible that rotten tomatoes rated the movie for 64%.As far as i remember the first time Rotten tomatoes gave a rate for 300 ,it was 100% ,and then 96% and now 64%!! What's wrong with these critics?
the movie was awesome and really i hate those people who disliked the movie because of the some fictional elemnts like the "immortal" giant, or how the Persians King looked like.Who gives a ****? people forgot that the movie is actually adapted from Frank Miller's graphic novel and that Zack Snyder didn't want to make a historical movie like gladiotor or troy ,he only wanted only to bring Frank miller's graphic novel to life.
So, for those who were dissatisfied with the movie because it has some fictional elements ,please check the graphic novel and see the movie again! You will understand whi this movie is great.

A couple notes before I give my review...

First and foremost, the fact that King Leonidas dies is not a spoiler in the SLIGHTEST. Even if you know jack about history, its common sense. The movie is about 300 men fighting against close to 1 million, simply looking at the odds would tell you, those 300 men are dead by the end. Its like complaining that Peter getting bitten by a spider is a spoiler. Shut up about it.

Second, the complaints (or call it whatever you want) about the movie being infused with homosexual undertones is bull. Okay, sure, you are watching 300 men fight in their underwear. But that does not make it homoerotic (many soliders once fought completely naked). Its a symbol of the "ultimate male", the ultimate warrior - they are so fearless and skilled in battle that they only need a helmet and shield. The two soliders who were buddy-buddy were not gay, there was no reason to think that. In every war movie, you ALWAYS have the two soliders who at first hate eachother, then throughout the war, they gain respect for one another and become friends, often being used for comic relief. Legolas and Gimili are perfect examples. And the comments about the spears and swords being symbolic of sexual penetration is grasping at straws as well. There was so much "penetration" because thats how those weapons were designed for use - to stab a victim. Nothing more, nothing less.

This is a rated R movie, how did you little immature tykes get into the theater?

okay, now onto my quick review. And yes, (sigh), beware of "spoilers":

From the very beginning, you know this will be an over-the-top movie, holding no punches in its style, violence and sheer disgust we as humans can create. The opening scene shows a baby being held over a quarry filled with baby skulls. Damn. The entire movie is a retelling of the event, in otherwords, we have a narrator telling us first quickly about Leonidas' youth and training, which I found to be very cool, and the foreshadowing to his tactic against the persians was well used (that entire scene is rehashed very well at the end). I bring this narrative up because there is cool feeling that the narrator (for the sake of his tale) imbellishes what happend in the movie-verse, and yet you get totally sucked into the tale, believing every word he says.

As many have said, the movie is full of beautiful images. And beautiful is the correct word. Everything, from the backgrounds, characters, props, composition, camera angles, etc, EVERYTHING is in top notch form.

The fights were awesome, not a single move wasnt made to look awesome. My only gripes about the fights were 1)the Rhino died too quickly. 2) I really wanted to see the sword-armed guy fight, but he only cuts off a persian generals head. I really liked the fights, and the graphic shots of blades slicking through people, however, all that only made me want more.

The scenes concerning the Queen were a good way to get away from the action, let the audience catch their breath. However, at the same time, they seemed to lack alittle depth. Granted, the actress playing the Queen did a fine job at displaying the strength, love and devtion she has to her husband and country. Side note: the audience cheered when she stabbed the traitor in the gut.

The only real gripe I had with the movie were some of the speeches concerning freedom and justice. These seemed too cliche, alittle too forced, like an attempt to give the movie more credit that a basic blood and sword flick. The speeches kinda made me groan at points, in their possible attempts to make the viewer think of our countries current situation, BUT like the rest of the movie, I guess I can understand the speeches being over the top, however I personally feel they should have been toned down.

Xerxes was really cool. They really did make him seem like a demigod. He was huge and imposing, his voice booming. He looked and sounded very otherwordly. I got a really strong feeling that they made him out to be like Satan, tempting Jesus with all the riches in the world, if only he simply bowed. Interesting character.

I also am not sure how I felt about the blood splatters. While cool in their own way, they were at many times...I'm not sure how to put it. I guess they just didnt look right. Yes, this is a very over the top film, and the blood and gore shows that. However, I think the majority of the blood effects could have been tweaked more. Also, for all the blood the splashed when sword met flesh, there was very little blood after the fact. For example, when the one Spartan is beheaded, the blood splashes as the sword cleaves his neck, but there is very little blood shown on the body after the fact, making the viewer (who is paying attention to these little details) say "where'd the blood go?" But of course, that is not to say there isnt alot of blood in this movie.

Overall, the movie was great. Fantastic visuals. The sound effects were also amazing. Every yell, swish of a sword, beating of a drum, it all was beautiful.

I left 300 with a very strong desire to go home, eat a huge bloody steak and have sex with my woman.

...how could you not know that the main character wasnt going to die....?

I knew that and i never read the comic or even knew there was a historical event where a bunch of spartans fought off a huge army of persians to give the rest of greece some time to gather together.

So I just got back from the movie........wow.

Someone said that it's basically a 2 hr. series of 'money shots' strung together. That's not a far off review to be honest.

There were SOOOO many scenes...heh..pretty much all of them to be honest..where my jaw had to be picked up from off the ground.

Truly a beautiful brilliantly crafted film. Sexy, CHALK FULL of ****ing balls to the wall action!!! Some funny parts and just...well, it's crazy awesome!!

COMPLAINTS---LoL..I guess people just can't be happy eh? LoL....okay so here are my only gripes with the film:

1--I know that the speeches and dialogue were how they presumably spoke and that's fine...but the speech that David Wenhem character (Dilios?) gave at the very end of the film before charging into battle..was a little bit long and I kind of thought it should have been cut in half at least.

2--Again, I am now fully aware that Xerxes doesn't die off in the book or in the end of this movie...and I know WHY he doesn't die...Leonidis wanted to let everyone know he can bleed....well, I was SOOO disappointed that Leonidis and him didn't have a big ol' brawl at the end :( I wanted him to have a cool death and he just gets a spear across the side of his cheek. That left me feeling kinda...blah about the ending.

Other than that.....9 out of ...forget that, 9.5 out of 10 :)

what do you get when you take Gladiator, Troy, and all three of The Lord of the Rings movies and put them together? you get a movie that is 300 times better, if not more.

my friend sent me two reviews by two ppl at some game forum or whatever. i cant remember which one said what, but their opinions were that the acting was so-so, the dialogue was bad, there were SOME good fight scenes, the movie was filled with EVERY CLICHE' in the book, the editing was bad, that 300 was nowhere near being a good epic movie, and lastly that it was like watching bad TV.

i know everyone has an opinion and that theyre entitled to it, but cmon, those reviews by whoever those ppl were are ridiculous. i never read the comic or even knew about it til this movie, but im definitely going to get it. i wasnt expecting this movie to be great, i knew itd be good. but damn, this movie was awesome in everyway. it was done fantastically.

and as for everyone who says how the movie is historically inaccurate, the movie isnt meant to be based on the actual event.its based on a Comic, that was based on a Movie, which was based on the actual event. if the comic's story wasnt based on any actual event in history and was fully fictional, im sure snyder would have still made a movie about the comic.
so cmon, relax. when you watch any of the pirates of the caribean movies do you go home and check out the facts about pirates to see whats accurate or not?

It's as simple as having never seen this particular movie nor read the comic. Like I said, just use common sense. A lot of people are NEW to the 300 story.

They're coming into this thread and BOOM story spoiled for them. How would you feel if a movie you were interested in seeing was just spoiled point blank without warning? Seriously. I'm surprised you even have to ask why someone would be pissed about this.

....dude, I said how I NEVER read the comic (much less knew there was one) or even knew there was an actual event that took place,BUT I still knew that all of the 300 spartans died. unless you've been living under a rock, i rele dont see how someone wouldnt have figured that out. like you said, JUST USE COMMON SENSE.

and as for the whole "no warning" thing. you cant rele blame the guy, cause this 300 forum isnt split up into Spoiler and Non-spoiler sections. i dont know if it was always like this, cause this is my first time in the 300 forum. but to blame the person that started the thread is a lil harsh, take it up with the moderator in charge of the 300 forums, i dunno. when i came here i figured itd have diff sections, such as the whole Spolier/non-spoiler thing and the movie/comic sections.

I've been here for a while and the 300 forum recieves very little traffic so I can kinda understand that the person might not have expected there to be anyone in here who's unfamiliar with the 300 story. And believe it or not but the historical story is not common sense. Common sense has more to do with people's normal concepts of right and wrong than historical facts. That said, being that this is based on a comic more than the history itself, one's not lead to believe it sticks close to the real story anyway.

Excellant, just excellant. I loved this movie. This is one of the rare films where I have no complaints what so ever. Some of the major studios doing comic or graphic novel films need to take notes from the creative and production team of this 300. Spider man as well, but i've had some minor complaints in both spideyfilms.

DO YOU HEAR ME FOX TAKE NOTES.

300 was great. The fight scenes were good, the acting was good, and best of all it was R-rated. This movie will do well after word of mouth. The audience was cheering. I'm not going to go into any spoilers. Just a overall good movie.

10/10

i dunno,i somehow managed to find out that they were all going to die and still wanted to see the movie. if you decide not to see 300 just cause you found out what the rest of the world seems to have known beforehand, yer going to miss out on a great movie. but thats yer choice, do what ya want.
