This is not a thread of me trolling the boards or dissing them, But if i'm totally honest i miss the hype of old.

I miss how active the threads were, how it was not so strict, i mean sure i'm not asking for explicit images or even speaking about such things, but it just feel's the censorship has gone a little too far.

I have children, my son is a fan of Batman, Spider-man & Iron Man and i'd want this to be a place that he could maybe post in the future, so i understand the censorship. But even as a father i feel it's a bit much. But it's not just about the censorship.

I know i'm not alone i've seen alot of posts mentioning how the place seem's so quiet, not the same as it used to be.

Am i moaning, i dont know, but it just feel's like the hype is dying. Maybe it's time for something to be done to re vamp the place, make it feel fresh again, exciting.

I created this thread to discuss just that, what can be done to make the hype more exciting again, before it dwindles into one of those forums with barely any posts (i dont see that happening soon, but given time it feels inevitable)

There's so many upcoming Superhero films, This place should be so busy right now, yet it seem's to go in the opposite direction.

I kindly ask the mod's keep this thread open, it's not a thread to slag off SHH (or each other) it's just a thread for ideas to bring back the glory days of the hype.

Time changes things, I miss 2001.. (Dew, Lackey, SIG) some funny stuff back then :yay:

I always thought there should be two hypes. A hype for kids and one for adults.

Lackey lives on elsewhere as do most of the people that are gone. Some are never heard from again.

I do miss the old SHH as well. Everything seemed more fun and relaxed.

Leave the Community sometime man. The Cap, Thor, GL, Batman, Superman, X-Men, and Spider-Man forums are seconds away from breaking the new servers that we just got. So much so that Mirko rented a robot to organize the threads.

It's the Community that sucks these days for whatever reason; over-moderation, uninteresting participants, etc. But the rest of the message board is still quite interesting. My opinion is def coming from a comic-reader background. If every other forum save the Comic Book section were to be deleted tomorrow, I wouldn't beat an eyelash. It's why I came here.

Yeah i totally agree, i suppose what i meant was Community, the bat boards thrive as do the spider-man ones at the moment, its a shame some of that 'action' does not spill over into community.

I'm often on the Bat boards and the Spider-Man ones, but i do like to venture onto community to discuss something rather random than arguing with someone who 'knows' Bane will wear a mask, It's not their opinion, it's fact.

It's just a shame community which was sort of the hype's light relief is a shadow of itself.

old school SHH! was the best. the quality of posters was so much fun. the bat boards used to be a riot. now they're just kinda depressing. Snipe, batmansironfist, watchman, sandman138, ruthmarks, etc....

and yeah, the censorship bums me out too.

I miss it, as well. This will sound mean, but :O I think that a large part of the problem is the type of posters in Community have changed. I see a lot of emo kids and whining over the most pointless stuff and feeling entitled to have the world handed to them. It isn't fun, it's just tedious.

Really are those forums really breaking the servers? I know it says 300 - 500 posters are on, but 2/3 of them seem to be guests which makes me wonder how many of them are bots.

But even so, would 500 people be enough to slow SHH down?

I'll be honest, I get nostalgic when I think about when I first joined. It's so different now, some for the best, some for the worst (Thread Manager-gate) but yeah I definitely understand where a lot of you are coming from. I mean, it's still the Hype!...just not the Hype! of old.

Maybe I need to head back to the Batforums where I began here, but even recently things have changed. Don't get me wrong, I know the stupidity that is Thread Manager, but ever since that got implemented, it seems things sort of started going to hell. I mean like the average Hype crazy shot to insane in a day or two, and it hasn't leveled out. Maybe it's the Community, but it seems no interesting discussions happen as often, and that the Hype morale is lower than ever. I don't really mind most of the new guys this year, in fact I made friends pretty quick with Violet Lantern, even though I think he was a Hypester before. Still, the Hype is definetely less active than it was in '08 or '09.

So I guess the nostalgia trip is cyclical lol

You know, I'm perfectly happy with the Hype the way it is and enjoy myself on it every day. I've never hit a point anywhere where I've felt it's gone downhill, it just changes. I got no complaints

Spoons makes a good point. I don't really frequent the comics forums but community use to be a hub for posters and now it's dead. I did a test last week and between the hours of 7 to like 11 am there were 14 posts in community.

^ To be fair Community isnt what it used to be. They split it into a lot of different forums based on interest (politics, sports, diner, etc). So you're not getting the exposure that some threads and topics used to.

Even split, it's still doesn't seem like it's a lot of posters in the entire Community including those sub forums.

I rarely come into community now. It's not what it was--nothing is. I keep having posts removed because they created a couple of mod robots that moonlight as happy geeks but are actually Satan's French Ticklers.

I think that merging the forums back together would spark some interest back into Community. Erz says it won't, but we don't have to listen to her.

I think the main problem was the over-moderation. The moderation was too stict... so people go pissed and went elsewhere. The majority of those left behind were boring... or just loved the Hype so much that we kept coming back. That's devotion for ya.

I think nostalgia glasses really impede our vision of what is. I mean, when I first started back in '02, those were the glory days. There was no end of fantastic posters, from HWD to Speedin Bullet to Truthteller to Blight....so many. But now I'm hearing people say how 08/09 were the best years, but that's because that's when THEY started, so everything was fresh and new and THEY were the new crop.

Things change, and I agree, it's not as rife with fun as it once was. But things change, and who knows, for a newbie, these will be the good old days.

But they aren't going to decide and not be strict anymore. It's come a long way from the "Wild West" but the direction we got from moderators is things change, accept it or leave.

The problem I think is those rules made people leave, the lag got rid of more people and now thread master is here to finish the job.

I think the real issue is how they expect to get newer posters to join outside of well...when Green Lantern or The Dark Knight Rises comes out we'll get more posters.

Eh, the Comics Section is still pretty good. I'm content.
