Discussion concerning the closure of the Soul Glo thread

Sorry...already did it.

It's more of a recognized title anyway.

At least I say it's the "New" Soul Glo. :woot:

No problem.

You do know that there were those who were working to get the other one closed right?

What do you think they will try now?

I don't know......can't worry about them.

Come on over and join us! :yay:

I don't think "they" have to try anything seeing as the original was closed for whatever reason, this one will probably be closed even sooner.

LS said that he closed it only because he felt it ran it's course......nothing bad or malicious.

Obviously, it hasn't run its course.

The last Soul-Glo stated that it was not specifically for African American issues...I think this one should have had a different name and tried to be more of a multi-cultural thread so it could lose the "stigma" that the old one was getting, and try to avoid any drama.

My point is that 'THEY" tried to sabotage it and LS fought the good fight but didn't 't have the time anymore to protect it.

This is just one of those "in one ear and out the other" things. I can see why he was getting a little sick of it.

It would've been worth a try. Although sometimes when things are grouped together like that people feel like their voices aren't heard, and the issues they want to discuss end up being eclipsed by others.

again and for the last time.
have you guys noticed that there are threads being made about random stuff all the time?
the Soul Glo lounge didn't bother me, but really, was it like the Hype lounge with 10% more black people?
In the end I can see why people who had their preferred ethnicity thread closed got a little upset that only the soul glo thread stayed ( because really, they could've merged it or changed the name) in the end it's a matter of focus.
but don't get me wrong, there used to be a "what are you listening to right now" thread and if someone talked about Stevie Wonder or something, I wouldn't have gone like "take it to the soul glo lounge"
I guess what I'm saying is...isn't the concept of having race oriented threads ( any at all) kind of detrimental to the equality that we're professing these races have?

It's weird really.

Interesting how LS intended for the original Soul Glo thread to be a thread for all minority discussion:

Wassup Hype Members! Welcome to the long-awaited SHH Delta Quadrant (also affectionately known as The Delta Quadrant)--a thread where peeps can discuss American Minority Culture. I'm yer host Lightning Strykez.

and the NEW Soul Glo thread is aimed specifically to African American culture discussion.

This thread is dedicated to the same things that the old one was. Let's talk about African-American interests.....

Honestly, it was a place where you could discuss hip-hop, culture and other areas of "black interest" without some smart ass cracking wise about it or asking why it's being discussed when no one cares about the topic. I doubt some of the stuff talked about there could freely be talked about in the lounge without someone making moronic commentary. But when people feel they're excluded, suddenly they're attracted like flies to garbage...it's like reverse psychology.

Well it's more honest in it's intent.:o

And that's a good way to avoid the same pitfalls that the original thread had to.[/sarcasm]

I have no blind notion that the thread was not primarily for "black interest" topics...but it was just a welcoming idea to promote minority culture. I don't think I would have been as active in the original Soul Glo thread if it wasn't specified as such. As a minority...you tend to know where you are and where you are not welcome. So if the interior of a place doesn't look very welcoming...I'm not really going to come in and set up shop.

You had better not be talking about me.
I liked the thread. That's why I wanted to make a similar thread for White people and why I also like the Asian thread.

MY problem was, the same thing you said:
raybia said:
Its my understanding that there have been questionable posts from members from time to time on the Soul glo thread, however that doesn't justify closing it down,

If that's true of the Black thread, then it should be true of the White or Asian threads, but according to Dew, the White and Asian threads were closed because of questionable posts inside the threads.

Do you know what that's called?
That's an "unfair double standard".

If Erzengel was a mod, and he started an Asian thread, so you started a Black person's thread, and then they closed both threads, BUT Erzengel was allowed to open only his back up, you know DAMN well you'd think it was wrong and gross.
DAMN well.

Also, it was PROVED that the Soul Glo Lounge was a haven for anti-White racism...because Dew said, yes, she was not policing it, because she thought LS would.
When she finally looked at the thread she said she was appalled at some of the stuff she saw and that it would not be allowed to continue.

For the record, when all the race threads were closed originally, I was the one who closed the Soul Glo because Morg was not certain if he should. It was reopened while I was at work and I objected to it, but allowed it on the condition that it was monitored. It apparantly was until LS took his leave of absence and I honestly forgot to check in on it because it was not my habit. For that I apologize and think that if I had done my job better the problem would have been solved sooner

What Anti White Racism

What Anti White Racism

You'll need to Be REAL specific @ this point and name names and Quote posts before anyone will get anywhere with that question.

Mostly because otherwise they will go in circles about what was said w/o ever being specific.

On second thought,... don't bother,...

This is just an extreme example of the double standard that allows too much stuff that happens here.

I don't blame him for his response,... it gets old quick to have to defend an open forum that would be under attack constantly because someone felt they were under represented (heavy edit here.)

Just remember how some could preach "multi-cultural" and still determine "who" was suitable for starting which threads.

(Shaking head at the hypocracy)

Regardless of your race, your creation of your thread seemed self serving and attention seeking.

And you hit it right on the nose Terry. I remember going through other threads in the hype where black movies were the topics. And many times, they were trashed moreso due to lack of understanding (cultural differences). I didn't feel that vibe at Soul-Glo.

MAN it's been a minute since I've been on here. Computer was down and working long hours on job. It's good to be back, but I see that the usual happens when "we" try to have something....this makes me think of the Black Wall St. ordeal. And then they wonder why some of us get angry. :whatever: Oh well. Nothing new.

What are you talking about. There's a new Soul Glo LOUNGE.

The person that shut down the old one was the Black guy that made it in the first place.

What are you talking about with the "when "we" try to have something"?
What do you have to be "angry" about?

There was a huge double standard and a wall of dishonesty set up to unfairly protect the Soul Glo LOUNGE while no other cultures could have a LOUNGE.

You are not making any sense at all.
Maybe if you stopped and opened your eyes and actually looked around, instead of going directly into Indignation Mode, you'd see that there's nothing to be "angry" about.

What a mess, The original one spawned some spin offs, they were all merged into one of the old "Hi, Bye" lounges b/c it seemed a lot of them were taking the piss. LS' thread was so big that Morg didn't know what to do so Dew closed it as she said.

Ideally at the time the stupid ones should have been trashed and the 2 legitimate ones left but that didn't happen.

Things have since been rectified but the initial incident of LS re-opening his has still left some upset for it to remain an issue even after the go ahead was given for other culture threads.

No problem.

No one worked to get it closed, I don't know where you get that idea from.
