I'm assuming Ant-Man has been shelved.

No, he has said before that he'd have another movie out before Ant-Man.

Instead of making a movie about a superhero few people even know about, and screwing it up by turning it into a comedy (from what I hear), they should just introduce Hank Pym and the Wasp in a future Avengers movie.

Edgar Wright -> Deadpool?

Did Marvel say in Comic Con Iron Man panel that there's going to be a synergy between comics and movie? Irredemeable Ant Man comics (whose character is even more immoral than Scott Lang) is going to bite the dust soon, why not give him a current mainstay, Deadpool.
If you ask me, Irredemeable Ant Man movie is fitting for Edgar Wright for a dark yet funny comedy. But it's not okay to release it for the next 2-3 years when Marvel is trying to build up momentum.

No, he's had that other film lined you fir a while now. Plus, since it's going to be Thor and Captain America for 2009, it won't be until at least 2010 that we see Ant-Man. Which gives us plenty of time to not worry about whether they can it or not.

That's actually... freaking brilliant.

Yeah but Wright hasn't said a damn word about it since last year's Con. You'd think he'd know more a year later but...NOTHING. At least he could have mentioned it again at a comic-book convention that he attended. LOL

It's still at least 2 years off. There's nothing to know, and I'm sure he's tired of people asking.

I'm betting on Hank and Janet to get name drops or maybe cameos in either Hulk or Iron Man.

If he's tired of people asking then maybe he should answer one person so it's out there and give us an update once a year. When I was at the Marvel panel at the SDCon last year it was Jon Favreau, Louis Leterrier, & Edgar Wright. It seemed to be something that was moving along. Then I heard a few months later that he probably wouldn't have much new news regarding the script until after the 2007 Comic Con. However...he could still give us an update and say that same thing again.

Seems Marvel's going to pool the bucks on their biggest franchises. Good choice!

Iron Man
Hulk
Cap
Thor
.... Well-known A-list characters that have comics
.... characters that have comics

Avi Arad movie quality (Elektra, Ghost Rider) would be thrown away by this method.

I think Marvel should do away with the 2 movies a year idea. I think Ant-Man would be a good lower costing, Jan-April hit for Marvel. Have 2 summer movies, and some low-end costing movies every year (like Ant-Man or Heroes For Hire).

No reason to make a big, blockbuster Ant-Man movie.

Marvel only has a fairly limited budget so they can't be making too many movies per year, but I agree that they could squeeze a lower budget film in every once in a while. Not every year, like you suggested, but every few years get something on a smaller scale out in addition to their 2 big blockbusters.

They will eventually be able to bank roll more, but throwing something smaller like Heroes For Hire or Ant-Man every now and then could get them to that point quicker (as costs will be low).

Well, not officially. But he has said to people that he'll probably have another film out before Ant Man. In fact, he said it to me when I got his autograph.

1) Ain't nothing wrong with comedy.

2) It's not going to be a complete comedy. It's going to be an action film. And as with most action films, it will have funny bits in it.

That's official enough for me however it'd be nice for an update. Marvel is a public company. LOL Also Ant-Man would be a cool action comedy. the whole concept sets itself up for that and visually it could be A+

Heroes for Hire would rock!

Who the hell cares if they ditch Ant-Man for Black Widow or Luke Cage or a cooler Marvel hero... Ant-Man will be in the Avengers regardless... that's a good way to introduce the character

I do. I want to see Ant-Man. I want to see a live action film with a guy who can change his size and the problems he has with that when fighting, and the battles he gets into on both large and small scales. Black Widow I could wait for but I guess we're seeing her in Iron Man anyways. :)

I agree. Save Ant-Man for the Avengers.

The answer to that is... Edgar Wright won't be directing Avengers.

The people who want to see Ant-Man want to see it because they want to see an awesome Edgar Wright take on the character.

It's funny, the Ant-Man film is already a cult classic amongst some posters here (myself included) and not a single frame has been shot yet.

If he's that good (I've never seen any of his films), why not give him an even better property to work with? Maybe Deadpool like chiefchirpa suggested.

I just don't see the need or draw of an Ant-Man solo film.

Because he wants to do Ant-Man.
