The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Oh wow. No wonder it’s so legendary as one of the all time worst games.
Apparently, the failure of Batman & Robin and Superman Lives made WB gunshy with Superman. New licensing team came in and tried everything to keep the game from being made. They wanted a SimCity clone with Mayor Superman or some nonsense.

There are several YouTube videos on the subject and the developer has commented and blamed WB for the game being bad. They also restricted which powers Superman could use.

WB had no idea what to do with Superman back then. Just crazy how they squandered one of their all-time greatest characters for so long.

I know I’m alone in this but The Incredibles does nothing for me. It’s good; I’m not going to say it isn’t. But I never even think about it when I go through my top superhero movies. Pixar films are mostly good but they’re just not for me.

Thank you for saying this because I thought it was just me.

Outside of Toy Story 1 and a few songs from Frozen and Encanto, I could give a damn about Pixar movies. :sneeze:

The Incredibles are great, but this notion they are an FF replacement or make the FF not matter. 100% cannot get on board. I love the FF characters in a way I just never will for the Incredibles. They're a great pastiche. But Superman has had ton of pastiche characters over time, and I would never trade any of them for Superman. He is Superman. They're not. The Incredibles are not the FF

Yeah, Encanto, Moana, Coco and Up are all pretty great, as are others. But I usually watch them once, enjoy them or not, and then kinda forget about them after. They’re obviously really good movies for kids and have good content for adults too but they just don’t stay with me.

Edit: I guess Encanto was Disney and not Pixar? Or is it all the same now? I can never remember.

Now if Franklin were to fight Nate Grey… I still can’t call that one. :o

Rachel would have to get involved to stop her husband and her future brother.

Encanto was Disney. They're separate divisions.

Those aren't even Pixar :weeping:

I think one of the reasons why The Incredibles gets so much attention as a pastiche of the FF is because until now, the Fantastic Four have been constantly striking out when it came to film adaptations while The Incredibles hit an immediate home run and kind of became a surrogate family superhero story in the process.

That's exactly why they have, but the FF having bad luck at the cinemas doesn't make me want to just....not have FF content I enjoy just because something else inspired by it was good. I still want Reed. I still want Ben. I still want Sue. I still want Johnny. I want non RDJ Doom. I want Galactus. I want the Surfer. Etc. I want to follow and enjoy THOSE characters

Nothing tops good old fashioned Disney Renaissance era though.

Still reigns supreme. :o
See this is where your single and ready to mingle status invalidates your opinion. The true test of the greatness of animated family films is whether you still want want to live when your child makes you watch a movie for the tenth time in a single month. 2000s Pixar definitely holds up better to that stress test in my experience.

Yeah exactly. Superhero pastiches can be cool and really interesting but for me personally, they are never going to replace my favorite characters. Homelander and Omniman are interesting (evil/conflicted) Superman pastiches but even if I thought The Boys and Invincible were better than any Superman movie, I’m still going to WANT them to make Superman movies. While there are certainly examples of movies and TV shows that have borrowed heavily from previous influences snd essentially replaced them (Star Wars did this to Flash Gordon, to some extent), I can’t think of any instances where an actual pastiche made me check out on the original story it was based on unless it was a story I wasn’t particularly invested in to begin with.

I am same, animation and animated movies do very little for me in general. I will watch and enjoy a few and then never watch them again or even get the urge too. I couldn't even get into those Spider verse movies as animation will never come close to the impact live action and seeing real human emotions will.
