if you join the military, DON'T JOIN THE MARINES!! Join the Air Force, or the Navy . . . and don't join 'for the chicks' . . . didn't you see the recent Simpson's and Family Guy episodes!?!?!?! They both had anti-military jokes throughout the eps, and they make a lot of sense . . . . anyway, you'll be much less likely to be killed if you're Air Force or Navy, and if you have half a brain, that's the only way to go . . . .

oh, and as far as the GI bill goes, they will only REIMBURSE you for college, meaning that you have to come out of pocket first . . . . be careful of how they word shyt, man . . .

my Gi bill is paying for college...no money out of pocket

Yeah man, listen to the simpsons and family guy, not people with actual military experience!

or photoshop experience right?

sorry but when you list Family Guy or the Simpsons as reasons not to join the military(hell for any other thing too ) then you get the title of stupid.

The Simpson's anti-military joke episode was f**king ******ed in every single way. Every Simpson's episode that tries to emulate the South Park/Family Guy/American Dad formula has failed miserably. The Simpsons should just avoid political issues altogether because they overexaggerate to the point that it isn't even funny AT ALL!

At least Family Guy's overexaggeration was funny, made some sense, and at least had some good things for the military like Brian finally getting some initiative to finish something. Also the way it was written fit into Family Guy's style of humor. The Simpson's episode reaked of being a South Park rip-off.

That's what my dad tells me.

yeah, a show where a guy stepped on rakes for 45 seconds is not funny!!!:cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad:

The Simpsons has failed miserably to try and make the show political. Lisa is no longer likeable because of her stuck-up liberal beleifs (before she was likeable even with her beleifs, but they took it way to far), and when they make fun of a political issue such as the Iraq War, outsourcing, etc., it's overexaggerated to a point that it is not funny at all.

Seriously, Groening should learn that the Simpsons is not Family Guy, it's not South Park, it's not American Dad. Don't try and transform a show into something that it is not.

umm...you DO know that the Simpsons have been around for almost 20 years now, right? So it would only make sense that the younger cartoons that you've stated above would follow the Simpson's formula.

Soo...you should probably have a little more respect for the Simpsons because if it werent for them, we probably wouldnt have shows like South Park or Family Guy.

Yes, they originally took the Simpsons formula, but now they have their own distinct qualities, such as taking on political issues. The Simpsons have tried to do this too considering its success on the other shows, and it failed.

i dont care a whole episode of Peter fighting the chicken is way better than anything the Simpsons have done

And neither are you:cmad:

The Simpsons and Family Guy are two of the best cartoons out now and accordingly made the top 10 of IGN's best cartoons of all time.

An episode of South Park addressed the fact that the Simpson's have already done everything possible.

Yea I saw that episode. In fact I think that Matt and Trey are big Simpsons fans, because they never rip into the series they just have short cameos or references. But, they dedicated a 2-parter episode into ripping through Family Guy.

So..I dont get it. What are you trying to say? lol

Because the show is almost 20 years old and the producers want to reach the 20 season mark and Fox doesn't know what to replace it with.

Just like they didn't know how to replace Family Guy and how they haven't replaced Futurama. Or how Friends was unable to replace Friends and Fraiser.

I'm talking in terms of ratings.

sigh.

I never said anywhere that i am better than the people on these boards because I served in the military. I said it was pretty obvious to me that if someone is trying to make the decision of whether or not to join the military, than they should probably ask people who've actually experienced it. And I never said YOU were trying to give C-$ advice...

As far as "internet geeks" or whatever other insult you seem to think I've made, I think it is again obvious that if any of those generalizations don't apply to you, than you should have no reason whatsoever to be offended. Clearly, you are offended. Which should probably tell ya something. :whatever:

And as far as bringing up the actions of a few Marines who do not represent the rest of us... well that's just a juvenile and tacky way to stretch your argument out. Grow up.:whatever:

So did mine. Not a dime from me, either.

what I said was that you seem to hold the attitude that you're better than everyone else. you've made assumptions that certain users haven't done anything of note and refer to yourself as 'elite'. you've even stated that Marines are separate from everyone else. and when I told you to climb down off your high horse you contended that you had earned the right to behave in such a manner. so did you say that you're better than the people on these boards? no, but you sure as hell act like it.

Common sense dictates that people thinking of joining the military should still take advice from those in the know, and not those that aren't. Like you.

given I haven't posted anything regarding the military I think it's ridiculous to make any sort of assumption as to whether I'm "in the know". that's what I take issue with. you presume to know who's informed and who isn't and judge them as you see fit and all based on what? whether or not they disagree with you?

the reason I posted those links was not to stretch out my argument nor was I attempting to be juvenile. it was to illustrate that Marines are simply people, no better or worse than anyone else. given the aforementioned attitude I feel you're carrying yourself with I thought you might need to be reminded of that.
