Did you guys think that they were parts of the movie that out-did the book itself?

What parts and why...?

I like that Dan was present at Rorschach's death. It really added to the moment, in my opinion.

And it doesn't really count as an "improvement", but the opening credit sequence was stunning.

But overall, the film didn't even come close to matching the book for me. It was OK, but if I'm in the mood for Watchmen, I'll always choose the book.

The costumes. I like them a lot more than in the book. And I agree Dan witnessing Rorschach's death was a lot better. But other than those two, the book tops the film.

The only bit I prefered was the blood in the style of the ink blot at the end.

Personally speaking I hated the opening credits but our opinions are all varied though.

I liked that Dan and Laurie didn't end up ****ing after the realization of Veidt's plan.

I understand the emotional strain, the mutual gratitude over life and the need for an emotional outlet, but that always seemed off to me.

No squid.

No seriously.

I mean it.

Not! :cwink::oldrazz:

The ending. It's more plausible. The reaosn being, DM is still out there and still could be a threat to the people. If a giant squid dies on impact and killing millions, that's it. And at this time of weakeness, wouldn't the Soviets' want to strike? If something like DM (a God so to speak) did this all over the world it's a much better thing to believe in. Plus, the squid would not of worked on screen.

Dan and Laurie not boning after Rorscach's death

Dan being present at Rorscach's death

I liked Dan better in the film

Ahbub.....awoooiiii.....

buuu....bah, bah, bah......

ow, auw, ieks, glup, gulp, oem, am, obobobobo.....

uuuuuff, oempf, tsjok, tsjak, tsjik,

bluuuuuuubbbbbbbwabbbbeeeee........................

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?

Dan and Laurie not boning after Rorscach's death

You have a way with words my friend. You should be a poet.

I agree with everyone's comments (except for the guy who hated the opening credits, that bastard) but one other thing was that I likle Silk Spectre II's costume beter here than in the book. Because, for a daughter continuing her mother's superhero gig, using the name, and because of what Sally Jupiter's costume was, SSII's costume reflected all that in that continuing sense. The comic didn't.

I also like the fact that Dan was present when Rorschach died. Before I saw the movie, I thought I might not like it, but ended up liking the change. I'm fine with the omission of the last sex scene between Dan & Laurie, even though it could've mean more naked Malin Akerman. :cwink: I like the movie costumes more than the GN, esp. Dan's Nite Owl costume, although I'm iffy on Ozymandias'. As for the squid, although I came to accept the new ending, I wish squid was included just so I can see Dr. Manhattan's last parting words "It never ends", instead of hearing it from Laurie's mouth.

I liked that they made Laurie more independent in the movie. In the book she was a whiney codependent little b*tch.

I really like Dan in all aspects.

I really like that they left the squid out. If I hadn't grown up in the 80's & understood that weird ***** was the norm for stories back then. I would have thought it was utterly rediculous.

& as some people have pointed out. If Moviegoers thought that sex scene in the movie was odd. Just imagine if they had left in the really weird sex scene after the world had literally exploded, & his partner as well.

In my opinion the whole ending of the movie is better. That for me is when the book falls apart.

So you really didn't even like the book?

I really like how they did Rorscharch's capture...They showed a little more fight in the guy which I liked...

Something that I wished they had improved upon would be how Rorscarch goes after Veidt at his palace or whatever...At that point he goes stupid and against everything he's done previously.

Rorschach did seem a bit more feisty after he jumped from the window. I don't recall the same barbs being tossed at him as he was being captured either (i.e., "he stinks", "the runt's wearing elevator shoes", labeling him with a homophobic epithet).

I liked the extra fight; the absence of the prolonged insults didn't really take away anything to me.

He should of. "Never compromise" really comes into play. He really puts up a good fight. In the book he just falls in soft trash things and lets himself be taken.

In the film, he falls and rolls and puts up a fight. Good stuff.

And the squid would of looked ******ed as hell on screen. Part of it looked like a mutated vagina. I mean if you explain how it got there and trhe events out load, it's ridculous. I know Moore paid it as an homage and that's the point, but on film nobody will caqre when there's a ****ing giant squid that comes out of nowhere.

Call me crazy, but I didn't like that Dan was there for Rorschach's death just because it was kind of out of character. I think Alan wanted Rorschach to die alone just because it really spoke about the character and how lonely and f***ed up he really was.
I did like how Laurie and Dan didn't bone after they found out about Veidt's plan though. One sex scene between those two was awkward enough! And the costumes were cooler looking for the most part. Other than that I've got nothin'.

They still could've been said. As Rorschach leaves, so does Veidt to go and meditate.

DM does the deed then goes to Veidt's room, says the line, leaves the mushroom cloud in the diorama, then we cut to Dan and Laurie getting ready to leave on the Owlship.

1. the squid being left out

2. LOVED the fight between blake and ozy

3. dan's reaction to death + no post apocalytic sex scene

Silk Spectre's line about why she didn't hate the Comedian

"Because he gave me you" I think was more effective than the book ever was about explaining why she never held a full on grudge, and always loved him.

1. The Ending
2. Rorschach more dimensional in his character's cause and personality
3. Everyone's costumes
4. Dan's character

The only improvement I think the movie has over the graphic novel is the greater amount of links to pop culture and the world of the time, through the use of songs and more historical figures, such as Lee Iacocca.

QFT.

Thank you, I was getting a little frustrated reading everyone's praise for it in this thread.
