Improvements to Graphic Novel!

I know regarding Rorscach's death. But in this situation, Dan reacted correctly. In the GN there was no mention of it at all. This would not have flown well on film. Dan knew DM was going to do something. I liked that "Don't even think about it." line. How else would he have found out or what would have been more effective? They did it right.

I remember a friend mentioning that that "Don't even think about it" line was almost a break of the 4th wall towards the comic book audience. I kindof agree, it's like Dan knew what Manhattan was thinking he was gonna do, and the cbm audience definitely knew already too.

Honestly, Dan's presence at Rorschach's death makes it a lot less tragic.

Having Dan present at Rorschach's death, followed by a scream of "Nooooo" makes it alot more clichéd and a far more typical movie death scene. I prefered the lonely death in the novel. Rorschach was a lonely outcast in life, and having him die alone with no reaction or investigation from anyone suited his character and made him feel alot more tragic.

while you have an excellent point, i don't think what happened in the movie was any less tragic. i felt it worked too.

What's more sad; a lonely psychopath begs to be killed tearfully and is forgotten or the same lonely psychopath begs to be killed tearfully and is mourned and fought for and remembered?
What's more sad; somebody dying alone or dying with their best friend present who shouts NOOOO at the sight of it?

Which is sadder? The one with friends who care enough about him to scream "NOOOO!" who went to his death willingly nontheless. Much sadder than a lonely psycho with no friends supporting him.

like i said, you have an excellent point.

but i felt the movie wroked too. and the reason is because rorshach redeemed himself, and nite owl was supposed to represent the audience. while yes, it is much sadder if he died with no one to see it, i felt the scene was more powerful with dan there.

and dan boning SS during such a time when ozy just killed a million people felt a little off in the book, one of the very few issues i had with an otherwise awesome book.

Gotta agree with this. Dan and Rorschach make up in the comic and film. Rorschach apologizes to Dan for being such a hard ass all the time. It made sense that Dan go out to try and prevent Rorschach from leaving Karnak by atleast trying to talk to him. So Rorschach DID have a friend in Dan, who tried to help him, made all the more tragic by the fact that Dan couldn't do anything to save him from Jon anyway. In the comic, Dan just lets Rorschach walk away, then he and Laurie walk away and bone. Neither Dan, Laurie nor Adrian know that Dan has teleported outside to Rorschach, so why would they all just walk away? Rorschach's leaving to tell the world what happened, and they all just walk away?

Though i like the way it goes down in the movie, from what i recall, i think they could have pulled it off better. What i remember is Dan going after Rorschach, seeing Jon appear, then he just stands there watching Rorschach and Jon talk, Jon kills him, Dan screams "NOOO!". I would have upped it a bit, by having Adrian tell Dan and Laurie to freshen up. Cut to Jon and Rorschach. Back to Laurie telling Dan she wants to leave, and he tells her that first he has to get Rorschach. He begins to walk outside, looks out a window(or the monitor) and sees Jon and Rorschach, he begins to run. Cut to Rorschach and Jon "Of course, must protect Viedt's new utopia..."/"Rorschach..."/"DO IT!!" Dan makes it outside, Rorschach explodes, Dan screams. Manhattan said he had no choice. Dan doesn't believe him. He stands in disbelief. Jon teleports away. Dan runs back inside and pummels Viedt, and the film continues the way it does.

But that's just me.

Has anybody read the book after seeing the movie, particularly the last chapter? I've read it a few times since. That last chapter, man. Those 8 pages of destruction are such a kick in the gut.

With that in mind, I wish the ending of the film had a bigger impact.

so true. they really showed almost none of the damage; in the book they showed a few full pages of dead people and blood and rubble. it was really effective.

also, i didn't mind dan being there at rorschach's death, but the "NOOOO" really was unnecessary and cringe worthy almost. speechless anger/shock or a few gasps would have been better than something so cliche.

i was under the impression they all knew manhattan was going to stop rorschach. otherwise ozy would probably have stopped rorschach himself, or i guess just let him go since no one would porbably believe him anyway.

I don't think so, otherwise Laurie wouldn't have asked where Jon went. Ozy just let Rorschach walk out, and then walked away himself. And if im not mistaken, Rorschach grabbed all the incriminating papers from Ozy's office, and i imagine he put them in his journal for people to read. He could take a chance and hope no one would believe Rorschach, but it wouldn't be something i'd count on 100%.
