In-house, shoes on or off

do you keep your shoes off inside your home?

  • yes

  • no

I'm Asian, brown, and... generally leave my shoes on in my house. I dunno, I try to wipe most of the dirt off on the doormat, and any dirt I do drag into the rooms, I'll vacuum and mop later. I prefer to always be ready to head out of the house, and I'm just so used to the feel of shoes, that my shoeless time is limited to the bathroom and bedroom.
(My mother is also a "shoes on indoors" kind of person).

I keep them off in house. I wear flip flops on the tile floor and usually socks or barefoot on carpet.

The second I read the poll question I knew the wording would be an issue:

This.

EDIT: Accidently voted no in the poll

why did you vote no then?

F***. I misread the question. Yes, I take my shoes off when I'm home. There's no point in having them on, and brown people don't roll like that!

The poll should have "on" and "off" as options vs. "yes" and "no"

I misread the poll question and meant to vote yes. I never wear my shoes inside my house.

I voted wrong, I meant yes, I'm brown as well.

I take my shoes off.

Misread the poll

the poll is fine, people should read more carefully :p
No it isn't. "do you keep your shoes off inside your home?" should have read "Do you take your shoes off inside you home?" or better yet "What do you do?" with the options reading "Leave them on" and "Take them off". Unnatural wording is an actual proven phenomenon that biased sources use to skew results - clearly you didn't mean to do this. I also wouldn't have been so obsessive about this had it not been for your arrogant response to legitimate complaints.

there's a considerable amount of brown people here :hmm
I'm also brown - what difference does it make? We have people from all over the world posting in these forums.

I've asked this before and I'll say it again - have I done something to offend you, asteroid man?

Last time you came in a thread of mine you said you wanted me banned.

To be completely honest, I don't remember you. I'm just saying that when twelve people make the same mistaken, perhaps there's a mistake in the instruction, regardless of how much you want to shift the blame.

But no, I take my shoes off when I come in the house. Don't want to track dirt/water/salt in.

here's the post I'm referring to and I stand corrected - you wanted me infracted, not banned

You called me arrogant, I call it rational. As far as internet polls are concerned, I always read the question before voting. And even if I do vote blindly, I don't blame the OP because it's not their fault I didn't read first. There's no mistake in the instruction, there's a question, and two choices. Those who didn't read or misread, mis-voted. It's as simple as that.

It's a poorly worded question.

The end.

I always take them off if it is raining outside or snowing.

My shoes are off right now. I am just wearing socks. The majority of the time I keep them off. Perhaps 95% of the time I have them off. Though I do wear slippers sometimes. But they are house slippers I rarely take them out of the house.
So as for the question do you keep your shoes off inside your home? I voted yes, I keep them off most of the time.

Ah, I remember now and I stand by that. You posted a handful of useless threads over the course of a week or two - a lot of times threads that were already posted before.

It's a poorly worded question.

do-you-keep-your-shoes-off-inside-your-home

there'd be trouble understanding if that sentence was poorly worded.
There's been ten posters calling you out on this. Your thread title is simple enough, the poll options should have read "on" and "off".
Or even saying "keep your shoes off" is poor wording, as normally that would read "keep your shoes on" or "take your shoes off".

I'm not crucifying you for the poor wording, I'm telling you that it's unfair and arrogant to blame everybody for your poor wording.

There's truth in this, look:

there'd be trouble understanding if that sentence was poorly worded.

Seeing as how multiple people in this thread who are intelligent and grasp the English language made comments about the poor wording, I would say that it is indeed poorly worded.

You can always just say "ah yeah, sorry about that!" instead of blaming everyone else's language skills.

Asteriod already said this, but "keeping your shoes off" doesn't really make sense in this situation. When someone walks inside their home, they would either keep their shoes on or take them off. Keeping your shoes off implies that people don't put their shoes on while they are already inside their home.

Ya dig?

I'm not blaming anyone for anything but once someone does lay it on me is when I'll defend myself. I don't think I did anything wrong and if you're truly not trying to antagonize me then you wouldn't be labeling me as arrogant.

All the people who mis-voted weren't calling me out If they said they misread the question, then they misread the question. I'm not denying that the system of intentional poor wording that you're talking about isn't real. That wasn't my intention when I made the thread.

I do dig, but I never once said that those who mis-voted had bad language skills. Some of the people themselves said they misread the poll. If this were to have happened to the majority of people, than the whole poll would've been lopsided.

As for your last paragraph, I have to admit when I was first making the thread, I wondered how to word the question. Then when I made the thread I worried some might misread it, and that happened.

You sure about that?

the poll is fine, people should read more carefully :p
= people have poor reading comprehension

You believe the wording was perfectly fine, thus with this statement you're implying that people are having trouble understanding. Again, comprehension issues which falls on language skills.

I'm not denying that the system of intentional poor wording that you're talking about isn't real. That wasn't my intention when I made the thread.
I'm not saying it was intentional, I'm saying that there's truth in saying that the poll is worded poorly, even though you continue to vehemently deny that. Look, even you had your doubts:

I'm done with this thread. You've essentially answered yourself haha.

= people have poor reading comprehension
No, I was not saying that those people have reading comprehension. They just voted in the poll without reading the question. Simple as that. Some of them even said they "misread the question." So that's on them, and I'm not antagonizing them for it like the way you've been antagonizing me; alls I'm saying is that the way I wrote my question made for an instance of some people simple mistakes.

You believe the wording was perfectly fine, thus with this statement you're implying that people are having trouble understanding. Again, comprehension issues which falls on language skills.
I never said people have trouble understanding anything. You're putting words in my mouth. I suggested maybe people did not read the poll question carefully or just didn't read it before they voted, and some of them have said themselves that they misread the question.

I said poor wording, but what I should've said was weird wording. If the wording is poor, that implies that it's grammatically incorrect, but it's a valid question.

You're done with this thread, but I wonder if you'll be done trying to put me on the spot around here. You did say you stand by your previous statement wanting me infracted just because you did not like my threads.

came from my friend's house tonight, the one who showed me that article in the OP of how gross it is to walk around with shoes on in the house. today was the first time she un-vocally had everyone take their shoes off heh. well, almost everyone.

At home I usually walk around in stocking feet or slippers.

Shoes are for the outdoors and I don't want mud / dirt / salt / slush tracked all over the house, thank you leave your shoes by the door.

but you don't wear those same in-house slippers outdoors, yeah?
