In The Multiverse Of Madness Spoiler Discussion Thread

Sorry mate, don't think so. Yeah a glorified cameo for fan service. But very cheap fan service.
No need to apologise mate. The early leaks Rintrah had a much bigger role. I wonder if this was changed in the reshoots?

So we don't see him fighting we just see a quick shot of him from the trailer?

Looks like this movie is just a placeholder rather than the big event film. Oh well
I mean, the big multiverse event film was always going to be Secret Wars. People just led themselves believe "insiders" on the various supposed cameos which, big shocker, turned out to be attention-grabs.

Granted, I still liked the cameos in this movie, but I'm glad the movie stayed focused on the actual important elements.

Wait people are actually pissed off about the Illumati getting slaughtered??

Feige have fans what they wanted. I never expected more from them.

Do you think Lashana's Captain Marvel or Hayley's Captain Carter could be back in other MCU movies?

No. I believe she’s confirmed for What If Season 2 though

I haven't seen the film yet but can someone explain to me on why everyone is against Wanda using Gomez's powers to visit her sons from an alternate universe? Does the film establish that meeting them would cause some type apocalyptic event?

Also, it's weird on how we have yet to see Dr. Strange come across an opponent that he could easily beat in a duel.

Wanda wants to absorb the power of America, she would die. She tries the same thing that Agatha tried with her in Wandavision. Wanda think she needs the power in the future in case any of her kids get sick and her current universe dont have the right medicine.

So the whole premise of this film could have been avoided if Wanda had just asked Gomez for help?

I dont think so, Wanda made clear she want the power so she can enter every universe she needs to protect her kids in the long game. She could take America in custody and lock her in the basement like forever, but I think absorbing her power and killing her is the more easy way.

Got home a while ago now and let it sink in more and it's a bit of a mixed bag for me.

I'll start with what I did like. I liked the relationship between Strange and America. She's going to be a fun character and I'm looking forward to seeing more of her in the MCU going forward. I don't think it was as ugly as some of the more recent or just other MCU movies in general. The horror elements worked (for the most part) there's some cool stuff they do with Wanda.

I liked the cameos...kind of. I knew about all of them prior (the main one's were in footage they released and had the Krasinski Reed one sort of spoiled but...) they were also wasted. I get it. They were just little cameos, variants, whatever but they could have put up more of a fight.

I think I expected more with the cameos and just more cameos in general. I'm glad they didn't add more because it probably would have been too much fanservice or whatever but at the same time, I'm disappointed we didn't get more of them.

Mostly just felt this was a little rushed. The pacing didn't really work and we don't get a lot of time to breathe. I didn't get what I wanted out of it, but I still did enjoy it a decent amount. Unfortunately probably on the lower side of my MCU ranking.

I enjoyed it was not blown away but it was a 7.75 to an 8

I did not expect Wanda to be bad the entire time, I was going in thinking she would have her issues but help against whoever is controlling. I see why they released it on Mother's day weekend very fitting with the theme.

Didn't care for America Chavez she was just kind of there a plot point, I am sure she will be back but I am okay with her being minor.

It was nice seeing Mordo but I want our Mordo feels like they have forgotten all about him. The "Too many damn sorcerer" scene feels like a throw away. The Illumanti was not bad but I am please that they all got done away with by Wanda, she did her thing. Reed and Charles were the only ones I was interested in. I am over the Agent Carter stuff, Black Bolt was nice in life action since I didn't bother watching Inhumans I don't think I would want Black Bolt to be more than a side characters, Captain Marvel was alright.

I loved Strange journey overall though and Wong.

The movie actually felt longer too me than the 2 hrs.

I liked Clea appearing in the credit scene, it feels like Marvel is focusing more on building the actual character universe in this phase instead of the team up universe. We still don't know the grand plan. Each credit scene has been for a sequel of that character or a tv show like Black Widow's

Oh and you absolutely needed to watch WandaVision beforehand. They referenced the events so people who hadn't would be "filled in" but you would definitely be a little lost if you didn't watch it.

I will do a lengthier review later, but in general I like this movie a lot. It was maybe a tad rushed, but that would be my biggest criticism.

I think I have a theory on why Scott Derrickson left:

Given the title is a play on In the Mouth of Madness, my bet is the original idea for this film was more Eldrich horror with demons and entities as the villain. But someone, probably Feige, decided to make Wanda the villain properly. Same with the addition of the Illuminati.

Just my personal theory. I don't have any basis for it

I really really hated the illuminati scenes. it was just used as cheap shocking moment that did dirty to those actors and characters. it was kinda mocking ish dumb fan service.
I'm surprised those actors said yest to this.
we heard all sort of who's in it, who said no blah blah, happy for whoever said no to this cameo.

wanda is the main story and yet the development of her being evil was so done poorly.
like.. they skipped project between wandavision to this.
I didn't feel for her at all and now I don't like her at all. hope her next appearance is real redeemable moment that lead to sacrifice death and she's done for good.

I think marvel need to stay away from eye shadow make up as much as possible.
more heavy eye shadow make up, especially with colors.. make too obvious.
agatha looked awful on WV. wanda on this is also meh. and clea looks like bad cosplay too.
they need to fid better make up idea or post production touch to make them less cosplay.

Yeah, totally agree about the Iluminati. It was like a cosplay convention scene.

Actually I thought Olson did a good job as Wanda.
Her story doesn't make a lot of sense: I'm sad so it's okay that I murder hundreds of people and risk destroying worlds.

The Clea cameo was ridiculous and did indeed look like cosplay.

I didn't care for the Illumanati all that much going in because it is not our universe 616 version. Reed did come off really weak as he did nothing but die. I expect the Earth 616 Reed and F4 to be better than what he had. I would have preferred a different character over Carter as Captain Britain or whatever I feel like the Peggy being a powered. Captain Marvel Danvers is part of the group based on Shang Chi credit scene and previous Endgame scene. I would have liked to see Nova maybe another new character, not like it would have mattered with Wanda killing them all haha.

Do we know how much time passed between Wandavision, Spider-Man, and this? That could explain Wanda not being fully sane we knew the power would get to her. The motive was a bit weak but we did last see her in Wandavisionin her Scarlet Witch attire. I don't think she is dead we would still need to see a true Xavier and Wanda scene and actual Magneto.

I assumed it was Clea but the get up was so odd. I would have preferred her appearing in every day clothing and saying I am Clea. Unless you follow the comics many not catching that characters. A lot of the credit scenes this phase have been wtf for non comic book followers in my theater.
Eternals- Had to guess it was Blade's voice but you don't see him.
Black Widow- had to watch Falcon/WS to know Val
and now this.

The post credit scenes have gotten dumber and dumber. Both of Eternals were horrible.
They seem very centered on building the movies universe and not the entire MCU and big picture plot. They all have 1 silly credit scene too now.

It isn't like this is the first one to have a silly post credits scene. Just at the top of my head, Schwarma in Avengers, the Cap speech about patience in Homecoming, Tony falling asleep telling Banner his story in IM3, etc. There are PLENTY of MCU movies with silly post credits scenes

I thought it was okay. It wasn't quite as crazy as many of us hoped it would be.

Whenever a scene turned into a Sam Raimi shtick, I got pulled out of the film. I get it...you STILL think its funny to do the stuff you did in Evil Dead. I don't.

But it was pretty good.
