What makes you think this is gonna be a goofy conspiracy thing?

noir answered it for me.

besides, that skull looks like every dorky gray-alien drawing you see in conspiracy magazines. most conspiracy theories are pretty goofy, and the 'gray alien' conspiracy is especially so.

Indiana Jones is 'goofy' anyway. It was based on 1930's serials. This film is based on 50's B Movies. Its things like this that make Indiana Jones what it is.

its things like the 1930s serials that make indiana jones what it is. the character is a tribute to those.
but what do 50s B movies have to do with indiana jones?

i can understand with an aged harrison ford they're looking to do something different, but 50s B movies aren't at all in the same league as 30s serials.

It'll all be in how they make the thing for sure, but to me, 50s B movie is much less worthy of tribute than the 30s serial.

Plus, you know, George Lucas.

The film takes place in the 50's, that's why. It's called progression. Every other Indy film has been different from the last, so why is this one being scrutinised?

its being scrutinised because there's a plastic-looking alien skull in it. I don't believe I'm the only person who thought that still of the prop itself looked incredibly lame, but as I said, it'll all be in how they make the movie.
Doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be worried. Its been more than fifteen years since they've made one of these movies.

As to Spielberg limiting Lucas' involvement, sometimes its hard to say no to a friend.

Actually, Spielberg has said he has no problem whatsoever telling George "no" as long as he's directing Indy. And people, chill out about aliens. Spielberg was quoted somewhere as saying that we won't actually see aliens - there's just a connection to them.

i'm glad he's gone on record saying that. people not being able to say 'thats crap, george' ruined the star wars prequels.

i mis-interpreted the alien thing, sounds better than i thought. alien skulls found in prehistoric ruins as connection with early civilisation fits with the indy-type pulp content.
crashed space-ships, area51, and bad cg puppet type stuff not so much. He's a skeptical archaeologist after all, not a conspiracy nut. i hope we get to see the indy of old dismissing it as a bunch of nonsense.

the skull prop itself still looks a little silly (especially those teeth), but its all in the set lighting i'm sure.

Ilike Indy to involve the super natural but Im open to this. It takes place in the 50s and wasnt that thetime that science fiction became a popular genre.

Imnot crazy about the skull either but Im almost positive that it will look better on screen.

Last page Spider-Man Luvr28.

Here's a good post from NileQT87 on The Raven. He's brought up the good comparison between the crystal skull and human skulls.

looks a lot like these skulls (these are actually human--2,000 years old from peru):

these are skulls/art from the tel-el amarna period in ancient egypt (probably due to marfan's--these were NOT due to head-binding!):

In doing a little research on head shaping in different cultures, as well as Marfan's syndrome, I think there's a lot of real-world possibilities for the crystal skull.

Ha, I always thought it was head pieces that made them that long.

Aliens have been confirmed through official comments and reliable spoiler reports. At this point, it seems somewhat pointless to start leaping through hoops just to have hope of something else. It looks like you'd only be setting yourself up for disappointment.

serious supernatural myth-oriented events are one thing, goofy conspiracy theory aliens are another.

Ha, I find the idea of aliens more believeable than the idea of super-powered religious items and events. But of course I am agnostic, so....

I'm not trying to say there won't be anything to do with aliens. I'm just pointing out all of the different connections for the skull's shape. Maybe we'll find that ancient people shape there heads to emulate the aliens/gods. Not a lot of people here go to TheRaven, so I try to keep everyone on the Hype in the loop.

I for one don't mind the alien connection 'cause we shouldn't see any.

Fair enough. Sorry for jumping on ya like that. And as far as that connection goes, I find that rather believable.

I've visited a few times, but I don't find it a great source of news. In fact, a lot of members seem to be behind the news. When I visited a few days ago, I found myself laughing at the refusal by a lot of board members to believe that 1) Mutt Ravenwood is Indy's son, and 2) aliens are at the center of the film.

I for one don't mind the alien connection 'cause we shouldn't see any.
Well, no living ones. Which is how it should be.

It does seem that we're seeing the remains of aliens, given the crystal skulls and entire crystal skeleton.

Their message board is a little faster than the main page, but the whole site is faster with info than ComingSoon, so I just relay info and get to look like I know what's going on. ;)

People might want to look up 'Artificial cranial deformation'. This is really interesting. Indy is making me learn about Erich von Daniken, crystal skulls and head shaping! Makes a change from when I was a kid and knew what the Ark and the Holy Grail were.

Yea either the skulls are alien in origin or made to look like the alien/gods who visited the anicent culture or they are just mishaped human skulls. And reguarding shia role he is either marion and indy's love child which i am fine with or he is just some shmoe who got caught up in indy's adventure and decided to tag along for what ever reason. We will just have to wait and see may 22nd.

They're likely alien skulls. Firstly, because that design is so organic that it could never be fashioned by human hands (it's hollow, even), and no human being has ever had a skull made from crystal. We also have an entire crystal skeleton, as noted by CHUD.com's reports and the product description for a figurine. Also, some other seemingly reliable reports have claimed that the skulls are in fact of alien origin.

Well, I'll say this: all the reliable reports (which even named Mutt before the name was officially released) have pointed to Mutt being Indy's son. And would "just another sidekick" really be getting all the focus that Mutt is getting?
