Darabonts script leaked a while back, and it was VERY similar to what we got in Crystal Skull.

Yeah, pretty much down to the aliens and crystal skulls and whatnot, right?

Yeah, I read it. Save for some stupid things, the script was excellent. Alot of the scenes from Darabont's draft is what we saw in Indy 4. The warehouse (done in a different way), Doomtown (pretty much the same thing) Meeting with the government and them keeping an eye on Jones, the crystal skulls, South America, the ant attack. Alot of stuff. But the same scenes that were in his script were much better in KOTCS. The finale was a little different, in the draft the alien turned into Hitler (bad call) And Indy's decision for giving up all the power was alright. But at the end, he didn't have to tell Marion about giving it all up for her. Overall a very good script, well written, the action was fun to read. I don't know why Darabont didn't get a writing credit though.

Other differences -

Some dude in all black follows Indy home. Fight in museum. Falls off museum roof. Cool scene.

Indy gets drunk in the museum. A humerous scene mirroring the idol scene in Raiders when he tries to break into the secrutiy glass to get an artifact. At first I didn't like the drunken Indy. But it grew on me. I'm still split about it though.

Indy goes to New York City where he meets Marion

Marion is married to another archeologist - love triangle. Handeled well though

Different side characters that have no significance

Not so exciting bad guys. There were like four of them.

Indy gets eaten by a giant snake (one of the worst parts for me) and escapes form it. Can you imagine the outburst of hate Lucas would get if they kept THAT in? You all think Lucas is crazy, at least he didn't put the giant snake in.

An arial dogfight - boring, we've seen that before

There's a Mac-like character in the script. I think his name is Yuri. He's a good character though. He has one of the best lines of the script. "Adventure still has a name." Or something like that. His fate at the end should of been Mac's though.

agreed --
every script review or person talking about Darbaonts draft goes on and on about how good the dogfight is and... i never liked it much, and they did that in LAST CRUSADE anyways. but i loved KOTCS so im biased.

Agreed about the dogfight. It was fine in LC. That would be the third time in a plane. TOD had a plane scene too. When I read that scene in the script, I kept thinking of the Lau charter plane. Or when Marion was shooting I was thinking of Henry Jones Sr. firing off the machine gun in LC. That's not what Indiana Jones is about. Doing things over again. Plus, I think the tone was alot like Raiders. People like that, but I don't want to see another Raiders movie in tone. They're all suppose to be unique in their own way. If you want to see an IJ film like Raiders, go watch Raiders.

And on a side note: I've only seen Indy 4 once unfortunately, but right now I prefer Last Crusade. But we'll see on Tuesday when I watch KOTCS. I love all of them though.

thats what makes KOTCS and TOD so good, they're well made but they're DIFFERENT. seems odd people have guffs with those two.

Because they love Raiders so much. They don't like when they see Indy going into different territory with such bizare subject matter. But he's an archeologist for God's sake, he's not going to repeat the same type of adventure. He gets around. I thought of this when Indy was under control of the blood of the Kali in TOD. He's laying there in the dark, surrounded by candles, struggling with the curse. That's where I thought, "Wow, this is so different than Raiders and LC." And then I thought about what other adventures that he could of had. Perhaps even crazier? I just love seeing Indy being thrown into all kinds of different situations.

People always say, "That's not the real Indiana Jones. TOD was too dark. LC was too comedic. KOTCS was too out there." There is no such thing as what the true Indiana Jones is. It's all different kinds of adventures. People didn't like when TOD came out, because Raiders captured their hearts. And seeing him do something like this, was just odd to them. They were expecting something along the lines of Raiders again. But they missed the point. That's not the point. What if TOD came first? Or even KOTCS? People would be comparing or wishing everything was like either of those two films. Raiders just happened to set that tone of what everybody expects or wants from Indy. But they're never going to get that. And most fans can't see this. This is where they're closeminded. They won't accept Indy any other way except the tone of Raiders.

The thing I get from fans of Indy who think Raiders is the best, is that it uses the most logic in how it deals with much of the mythology and action sequences of the film. Raiders chases are much more realistic than going down three waterfalls or using an enormous amount of CGI in order to create backgrounds or techniques they claimed were going to be done the same way they always were.

Raiders is obviously the best in the series, and my personal favorite. But honestly, for me at least, ToD, LC, and KotCS are all tied for me. I like them all and I view those three in the same league as each other.

Yes I believe Raiders is the best too, because it has the best screenplay in my opinion. But they all are so fun, and no matter how much cg or whatever was used in Crystal Skull, it was still old school fun. Things were still executed for the most part in old school ways, at least when it comes to the stuntwork. I kind of get confused whenever people complain about CGI and aliens in this movie because I feel sometimes "Wait a sec, there has been green screen in all four movies, like when Indy and sallah were lifting up the cover to the ark, the cloud and thunder filled sky was green screen. the truck falling off the cliff looked like green screen to me. In Temple, models were used a lot for the cart chase. Green screen used for when the trio is running from all that water, and then not to mention the aerial dog fight's green screen use.I wish I was around to see the reaction to Temple of Doom having hearts getting pulled out of bodies and sail rafts falling out of planes, sliding on snow, then falling down a huge waterfall, with all of them surviving." Then with the aliens, which I had no problem with because of the fact that this was set in the 1950's. I think Lucas and Spielberg would be betraying all the serials they used to watch if they had this set in the 50's but still have it be like 30's serials. Aliens, nuclear bomb testing, russians. I got it. I think some guys were just being a little stingy with this thing. I hope starting tuesday people start having more fun with this thing, because I thought that was the whole point with the indy flicks.

While I think TOD is kinda silly, I do find it entertaining and watchable. The main reason being the sense of danger. TOD has that. KOTCS does not. I never once thought something bad was going to happen to anyone. It all felt like a big joke.

I just think more of the artifacts need to be based off more than those popularized in Western Culture. The Monkey King script is the only one that actual delves into a real Eastern myth. For the films, Sankara Stones don't count because they are not artifacts based on real myth. There should be more than just the Judeo, Christian, Greek or other cultural objects made famous in tales from Europe and the Americas. Where's our Lemuria? Shambala? Imperial Regalia? Even a fictional history behind the Great Wall of China?

I agree with all of this. I was reading The Making of Indiana Jones about Indy 4. Lucas kept stating that the only way it would work was to put aliens in it. And he was right. You couldn't ignore that stuff then. With everyhting going on then, and not put that stuff in the movie, wouldn't be right. That's what the 50's was all about. The paranoia. The aliens, nuclear wars, Communists, etc. They're still paying homage to B movies. But from the fifties. That's what they've always been.

i just hope they do something odd and different and weird w/Indy 5 since that seems to be in "think mode," or on the fast track...

I loved the film, it wasn't Raiders by any means (no Indy sequel could ever be either), but I thought it was better than Crusade and enjoyed it just as much, if not a little bit more, than Temple. I can't wait to get it on dvd tuesday. :woot:

On a side note, I found these screenshots in blu-ray a couple days ago, as well as some more blu-ray screenshots via dvdbeaver, are there any other sites uploaded with dvd/blu-ray screenshots yet?

Oh, sweet Jesus slap me twice. I wish I had a blu-ray.:csad:

I have a feeling they will try to go back to the original sequel formula to try and appease the people that couldn't stand Indy 4.

My thoughts too. But I loved how they incorporated 50's pop culutre and how everything was going on then. What else haven't we seen from the 50's that can be put in the next film?

No, he wasn't right. Sure, they couldn't ignore the red scare, but they definitely, DEFINITELY could have avoided aliens.

No, because all the aliens/Area 51/Roswell stuff was huge in the 50's. How could you ignore that? Anybody in the 50's who grew up then would tell you the same thing. If he went after a different artifact, people watching it who grew up then would of said, "I remember in the 50's aliens was the biggest thing. Why didn't they have that?" I mean, what other artifact in the 50's can they go after that matches with the time period? Its not like the 30's where you could go after anything you want. The 50's is a new age, changes, new generations, everything. The 50's is that decade where it shaped alot of America.

I think Indy has never been about the pop culture of the period, but archaeology and adventure. That means the aliens could've been avoided. I'm not saying they weren't appropriate, just not a necessity. The Soviets, on the other hand, were a must, just as the Nazis were in the movies taking place in 1930's Europe.

Okay, so which stores are having the best deals for Indy? Or rather, what are all the deals for stores?
