It's actually one of my favorite scenes in the film.

Cool scene. I like how Winston Churchill is kept in the background.
I would have never recognized Rod Taylor if I didn't read about it.

I guess. It was smart of him to take the role. I heard people around me asking, "Is that Mike Myers?" I think it gave it away when he smiled and sounded like Austin Powers a bit.

I was overwhelmed by the urge to say "Arrivederci" in the thickest country American accent I could muster to the usher on the way out of the cinema at the end...

well that didn't take long, i know what i'm asking for for christmas

I might buy it. I'll rent it and see if I do. I don't think it's a film I can see over and over and over again. Well, maybe. I just have to watch it again.

Really? I adore this movie. I saw it once, loved it, saw it a second time and it only confirmed that i loved it. I think this film and Jackie Brown i could watch back to back all day and never get sick of it.

I do hope though that the DVD is longer than the theatrical version though. It would just, i HOPE, make the film feel even better. And more epic, too.

I was just about to order my copy when I noticed the Blu Ray version is 6 minutes longer than the DVD version, but there is no mention of it being a directors cut or anything, what's that about?

Hmm I got my Blu-ray version ordered.....I did not notice this. Can you link some pics or a link to this Hunter?

From what I recall, the theatrical cut was longer than the controversial Cannes cut. So I suspect this is just stuff they decided to trim out for time's sake, and not a Weinstein move.

But 6 mins seems like alot.

Yup.:yay:

DVD version content, run time listed as 147 minutes

Blu Ray version content, run time listed as 153 minutes

Wouldn't they have pimped it as the Cannes cut though? especially if it was controversial.

Interesting. Well regardless I was getting the Blu Ray. But I wonder why this has not been advertised, it usually can work as a marketing gimmick.

That's what I found strange, now I don't know what to do.

More can't be bad? Can it lol?

BTW since you're in here Hunter, can we ever get rid of this redundant poll up on this thread, so we can actually rate the film itself?

"After Cannes, Quentin always said that he wanted to do some cutting, and pruning, and that he was going to be changing things. There was a lot of stuff left out before. He felt that he had over cut. There were certain scenes that were taken out for Cannes that will come back into the final version. Because it plays better like that. I think the final version of the film is five or six minutes longer than the version shown in Cannes. From what Quentin has told me, he has fleshed it out a little bit more. Cannes running length was at two hours and twenty-five minutes. I think this is a little over two hours and thirty minutes. Something close to that."

I'm puzzled, at this point.

Does anyone remember what the theatrical runtime was?

I guess I'll hold off on buying this until we find out if the Blu Ray has more footage or if that's the theatrical version and the standard DVD gets chopped a bit.

Same here. I definitely got an Austin Powers vibe, but with a
"toodle pip, chaps" british stereotype thrown in....if that makes sense.:o

yeah. people shouldn't be too harsh on it. its a QT, which means everything has a purpose. the scene was meant to play out that way.

i loved this movie

Upon second viewing, I feel like there in fact WAS a good balance between storylines. How much violence with the Bastards do we really need?

i agree. it made the basterds scenes that much better. if it was all it was, then i think it would have fell short.

Great movie, Landa should get nominated he owned his scenes!
