Playstation Insomniac's Wolverine

It's hard to imagine a Wolverine game without Sabertooth, but then Insomniac's Spider-Man did such a good job of teasing but not going straight to Green Goblin.

I don't know what I'd like to see more, Insomniac's take on an iconic Wolverine baddie or something a bit more original or not seen in a game before.

I did like how Spidey made Mr Negative seem like the big baddie. Could see a Wolvie game doing something similar, with a bait and switch. I feel like Weapon X involvement is like a foregone conclusion too, right?

I definitely feel like we'll see weapon x, I can see some weapon x foot soldiers as cannon fodder too. I feel like setting in madripoor is kind of genius cuz it's a criminal hide out.

Yeah totally, and one of those port towns where you can justify the presence of any number of Wolverine villains and still have it make sense.

So, in the absence of any info:

What villains would we like to see in this game?
What allies would we like to see assisting Logan?

Would love to see Yukio show up at some point (or any of the Japan and Madripoor regulars)

I'm sure that we'll be seeing Sabretooth even though he likely won't be the main villain. Lady Deathstrike is another one that will likely show up. I also wouldn't mind seeing Juggernaut in the game.

As for allies, I'd prefer to see Logan work mostly alone but I could see them throwing in a few X-Men appearances like Colossus, Kitty Pryde and MAYBE a tiny Deadpool cameo if they can't resist his popularity.
Definitely Yukio as an ally and Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike as villains. I’d like Omega Red too and maybe Jubilee to start their bond.

I wouldn't mind an adaptation of the Shingen story as I think The Wolverine film missed the mark a bit. I think Shingen's story could be handled better in the form of a game where you have more time to tell the tale. It would also be an obvious opportunity to include Silver Samurai.

That said, I don't know if it's best to do that straight off the bat and not build up to that with a sequel.

What I would love to see is some Weapon X sequences where you have Wolverine on a team with Sabretooth, Maverick, pre-Deadpool Wade Wilson etc.

Yeah, I would looooove to see Weapon X done well. For all the screen time WX has had in the movies, I still feel like i've never truly seen that era done justice. Definitely would love to have a playable flashback mission from that period.

I'm also totally open to them picking a very specific time in Wolverine's life, in the same way they went with Spidey 8 years into the job. I've floated before but love the idea of this being set very soon after the death of Mariko, Logan living as Patch in Madripoor still processing his grief etc

Yeah and it really just depends on the story they tell too. Especially if the his fear of going feral is a big part of the story. I could see them saving that for a sequel.

Magneto ripping the adamantium from Wolverine's bones would be an interesting story to go with.

Eh, that's not really a story as such, that's just an event. Now, "Logan is reacclimating to a non-adamantium body, after losing his metal to Magneto, while old and new villains of his come out of the woodwork to take advantage of his newly weakened state"? *That* is a story. Its also a story that gives a very good excuse for why Logan has to climb up a skill tree- he literally is relearning his abilities.

That said, the adamantium is kind of iconic, I'm not sure it would be a great idea to have him stripped of it. . . unless a part of the story is "Logan getting in touch with sketchy contacts to try and get his skeleton re-adamantized". . .

Also we can assume he has metal claws from the teaser.

That said, my fave thing about Wolvie losing his adamantium in the comics was his feral side became more difficult to control. Would love to see this game properly explore the concept of his berserker rage - The positives and the negatives of it. Like if it's a boost mode you can activate but use it too long and you lose control or something.

It could be a good thing to do a decade or so down the line after the X-Men and Wolverine have already been in the universe a good while. As in both a large event like Bloodties with Magneto stripping the adamantium and then future Wolverine films/shows dealing with this aftermath (which would be more interesting having seen him with the adamantium all that time).

Edit: didn't quite realise I was in the game thread lol.

Would be interesting to explore that dynamic at some point too.

Yeah should see some gameplay by summer 2023. Hopefully it is every bit as good as Spider-Man.

I just hope we get Steven Blum to voice Logan

I do love Steve Blum but would also be totally open to hearing a newcomer, if they're great. I loved Richard Armitage as Logan in the recent podcasts, mostly because it was so refreshing to hear a new version of him after so many years of ol Blum-y haha

I think insomniac will pass on Blum and give a new voice a chance, I least I hope so. Blum is great and he's been doing it for forever but i think their take should be fresh.

Will be interesting to see any Spidey links Insomniac drop in here. I’d be very surprised if there were no references at all.

I think it depends on the setting. There were lots of fun easter eggs in the Spider-Man game, but if Wolverine doesn't go anywhere New York, I wouldn't want them to force it in just because they can.
