Playstation Insomniac's Wolverine

Yeah I don't remember the date they had set on that road map.

If they're actually releasing Venom, I think 2029 might be SM3. Then X-Men around 2032.

Hopefully they can release them sooner, but...

I was expecting some sort of promo back when Deadpool 3 came out. That would've been the time.

But I suppose the debut of the movie on Disney+ is also good timing for it.

These games don't necessarily need to piggy back on the film marketing. None of the insomniac ones have as far as superhero games go.

Yeah, that's true. I'm not saying that the Insomniac game would need to piggyback on film marketing. I'm just saying that if they did do some cross promo, it would definitely boost hype and conversations.

This game will probably come out by the time Jackman will be joining the Avengers :whoops:

There will be a bunch of Wolverine hype there.

My brain will not accept these numbers.

What if I tell you that despite the Venom game, they are also considering making SM3 into 2 parts?

But don't worry, before 2035 we'll certainly get an X-Men game. :whoops:

We don't even have a date for Spider-Man 3, and who knows how long will that take from now.

As for this game, its been 3 long years since it was announced. Having a X-Men game, after 9 years is highly optimistic as Insomniac would release other games first. Maybe another Ratchet & Clank game too.

I wouldn't be surprised if its out by 2027 at this rate.

Insomniac also has a rumoured Spider-Man spin off game, which could be released next year or 2026, and I thought it should have been announced by now.

I want to hope that creatively speaking, storywise, it's going to be a great change. That maybe they're taking a more comic inspired approach and less FOX inspired. But I dont know, it's just wishful thinking. French Vanilla Fantasy, really, considering how far the development is.

And it might take even longer for this game to come out now, and consequently the X-Men game too.

Oh well... if we're going to wait that long they better be great.

I highly doubt story and gameplay get changed with a new director. I imagine they'll be picking up where Horton left off, And will continue to see it through the finish line. They have too many years worth of work in already to be re writing and animating stuff. I think they had said some of the ratchet and clank team were already working on the game as well.

I still wonder if that will affect the release date.

So right now looks like Wolverine > R&C > SM3...

Man this is sad I was hoping we were getting the rumored gameplay reveal in a PS Showcase but nowninthinknthatbwillnget pushed back or won’t see anything until next year

The earlier they release the Spider-Man spin off game, the earlier they would release this. Iirc, that game (Venom?) is supposed to be out this year and there was supposed to be a DLC for Spider-Man 2 as well.

This is probably Insomniac's last game for the PS5.

I wonder if they were shopping X-Men to other studios, but when the Avengers IP was soiled as a game franchise, Marvel Games panicked and hedged their bets here. Played it too safe.

IIRC they said insomniac chose Wolverine (and presumably Xmen) Marvel came to them and said choose whatever you want, and this is what they chose.

The problem with X-Men is it's a team, so how do you make that work in a single-player game? Even in Guardians of the Galaxy, you could only play as Star-Lord and you're basically issuing commands or combo attacks with the other members.

They turned Avengers into a multiplayer online experience and look what happened.

I say treat it like mass effect or gears of war, you get a squad of 3 or 4 and go on a story driven missions and have the capability to swap around. Maybe it can be more than single player as well.

I don't think a X-Men videogame is complicated. X-Men Legends I did this perfectly, introducing the playable characters one by one. Then X-Men Legends II expanded the experience, even though not all 16 playable characters had a significant role in the story.

20 years later after those games, tech has advanced so much. They don't need to give every X-Men 50 skill sets.

Regardless of how near or far the game is to completion I think Insomniac, like many other developers, are keeping an eye on the 800-pound gorilla that is GTA VI. Hypothetically if the game was ready to go by the fall and Rockstar still keeps to a fall release date for GTA VI, Insomniac would push Wolverine to next year.
