SECRET IDENTITY: Casting 'Iron Fist' Danny Rand

The "Iron Fist" movie is on the way with "xXx" screenwriter Rich Wilkes on board to tackle the script. But even as the project moves forward, some big questions remain — namely, who's going to direct the film and, just as importantly, who's going to star as Danny Rand?

In today's edition of "Secret Identity," we're suggesting five names that Marvel should consider for their forthcoming big screen martial arts epic!

Ray Park
Previously connected to "Iron Fist" during its development nearly ten years ago, "Star Wars" star Ray Park remained enthusiastic about the Marvel property as recently as last year. Park is in his late thirties these days, but the martial artist could easily portray Rand as a seasoned veteran. On the flip side, he might have a hard time playing a more youthful version of the character.

Ryan Phillippe
Former "Captain America" candidate Ryan Phillippe might seem like an unlikely choice for Iron Fist, but the actor actually has some martial arts experience to his name having earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do earlier in his life. With some additional training, Phillippe could combine his martial arts skills with his considerable talent as an actor for a terrific performance as Rand.

Cam Gigandet
Before you go crying "Twilight" on us, just know that "Priest" star Cam Gigandet is a Krav Maga expert with plenty of skill to bring to the role of "Iron Fist." He's proven that he can kick butt on numerous occasions — particularly in "Never Back Down" — and on top of that, Gigandet bears a striking resemblance to Danny.

Ryan Kwanten
Unintentionally continuing the vampire trend is Ryan Kwanten, the Australian actor who plays the dim-witted Jason Stackhouse on "True Blood." An extremely gifted and versatile actor, Kwanten would have little trouble transforming himself into Iron Fist, though he might need some training in the martial arts department.

Garrett Hedlund
Like Phillippe, Garrett Hedlund was once mentioned for "Captain America" before Chris Evans landed the coveted part. But the "Tron Legacy" star's physique lends itself much easier to a starring role in "Iron Fist." Based on the footage we've seen from the "Tron" sequel, it appears that Hedlund has more than enough talent to bring to the role of Danny Rand.

Wow, they suggested Garrett Hedlund too. :hehe: My two favorite choices from this list are Cam Gigandet and Garrett Hedlund.

You just want Iron Fist to be the owner of a Crossfit gym that, after messing with the wrong crowd, the place gets burnt down. :o

I'm just sayin' that what Iron Fist does and twae kwon do are not really comparable at all. Twai Kwon Do is one of those martial arts that looks kinda cool, but if you ever fight anybody with any kind of actual training, you're going to get hurt lol.

I want Iron Fist to be an MMA fighter.

Played by the California Kid! :awesome:

Yeah, but I for one want Iron Fist's fight scenes to look visually interesting and entertaining. This is a comic book movie, who cares about practicality?

Touché. But the fighting style that Iron Fist uses looks nothing like twai kwon do and the fact that Phillipe knows tkd shouldn't make him any more or less qualified for the role.

Use Cam then he is a Krav Maga Black Belt
an eclectic hand-to-hand combat system developed in Israel which involves wrestling, grappling and striking techniques, mostly known for its extremely efficient and brutal counter-attacks, as it is also taught to elite special forces around the world. It was derived from street-fighting skills developed by Imi Lichtenfeld, who made use of his training as a boxer and wrestler, as a means of defending the Jewish quarter during a period of anti-Semitic activity in Bratislava in the mid- to late 1930s. In the late 1940s, following his immigration to Israel, he began to provide hand-to-hand combat training to what was to become the IDF, developing the techniques that became known as Krav Maga. It has since been refined for both civilian and military applications.

Some refinements include, but are not limited to, the incorporation of elements from traditional Asian martial arts.

Krav Maga has a philosophy emphasizing threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers, and aggression.Krav Maga is used by the IDF Special Forces units and several closely related variations have been developed and adopted by law enforcement and intelligence organizations, Mossad, Shin Bet, FBI, SWAT units of the NYPD and United States Special Operations Forces. There are several organizations teaching variations of Krav Maga internationally.

probably not iron fist fighting style tho lol

We also need to cast The Steel Serpent for his archenemy.

Yeah, just because somebody knows A martial art doesn't mean they would be any better than anybody else at a completely different martial art lol.

Whats "gay" about?

The fact that it doesn't work at all in the real world. And just to clarify, I didn't mean "gay" as in homosexual, but "gay" as in ******ed. Some of my best friends are gay. :woot:

i am just saying a super hero who is martial arts master to get someone to fake it on screen is obvious

you can always tell

And some of your friends also Gene Hackman, apparently.

This is true. He does private training with my coach and when my coach is gone (Which is quite often these days. He's a very busy man.) I fill in and train him. He's a big fight fan so I do a lot of holding mitts for him and showing him jiu jitsu moves. Today he was telling me about when they were filming Superman 1. As a fanboy, it was pretty surreal lol.

The more I think about it and from the TRON: Legacy trailers, I think Garrett Hedlund would be a great choice for Danny Rand.

Now on to the female lead, who should be Misty Knight?
