And besides, Gosling is currently probably tapping Eva Mendes in every available orifice, so he's not exactly crying himself to sleep these days.

Kevin Feige mentioned in an interview that the unannounced Marvel movie for 2014 will introduce a character "outside the Avengers' world." Now while this could mean Dr. Strange, anyone think it could be Iron Fist?

I'd say it's more likely Dr. Strange, however, no matter which one it is, we all win. :yay:

Agreed.

I like that he said "a character," since that kinda rules out Guardians of the Galaxy. That was the only 2014 option I wasn't really feeling. Iron Fist, Dr. Strange and Black Panther are all cool with me, though based on that comment, it doesn't sound like BP.

Dude! I would love to see the Savage Land in a fully realized Marvel adaptation.

It would be a cool way to expose the GA to what the Earth in the Marvel Universe really looks like.

Kun Lun, Atlantis, the Blue Area of the Moon, the Negative Zone and the Cosmos at large would all be great to see on film.

Wakanda would be great too.

Marvel is on a roll with those movies.
They have so much material to pick from...
With critically and commercially successful movies like The Avengers, they are quickly grabbing more Hollywood power. And doing so, making comic book properties even more valuable.

I think we can expect more movie adaptations from comics in the coming years.

Lol in a perfect world Ryan Gosling will do this!! Lol but he wont

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, Star Trek 2, Lost, Cowboys And Aliens) told Comic Book Movie that he'd love a shot at adapting IRON FIST! Even if you don't like his stuff it's a giant upgrade from xXx writer Rich Wilkes who originally was tapped to develop a script. What do you guys think about this?

"I think I would rather do a character that not many people knew, and maybe saw as lame and couldn't carry their own movie. One character I've always loved is Iron Fist, and Matt Fractions incredible run with him a couple of years back. I always thought that would make a really cool movie. But I am hard pushed to think of me doing anything better than The Avengers which I just thought was phenomenal."

"Yeah well I mean I think it's because he's even more fringy than Iron Man was, and also because he's called IRON Fist they may be worried about some confusion with the Iron Man franchise, even though obviously they are very different characters. But I have to imagine that with the success of The Avengers, they are planning to give Black Widow and Hawkeye their own spin-offs, and there are many more characters on the fringe of the Marvel universe that I feel are equally worthy, like Iron Fist."

Defintely a step up!

Oh hell yes, that would be ****ing awesome!

errr... I don't see that happen. Of course, after the success of TA everybody wants to make a movie for MS.
But Lindelof? I don't think he's the right person to handle an IF movie.

Do you have ideas on who else should write IF?

I think Damon lives and breathes genre material, granted most of it leans more to science fiction. However, he can create a little more character depth than someone who was involved with that horrible Vin Diesel film xXx. Nothing says Marvel will hire him or even try to make an offer. Damon is pretty busy these days with the possibility of a Prometheus sequel and Star Trek 3 likely also in the works. It's just interesting that a writer who is that well-known is even open to a genre-focused project like Iron Fist. He's basically on the lower-end of Marvel's current film priorities...

I'd like to see what he has in mind. His praise of Fraction's run speaks volumes.

If we're going to start mentioning dream writers or directors I have to say that Quentin Tarantino was made to tell the story of this pulpy superhero. He's not opposed to making big films as he was in talks to write/direct Casino Royale but was turned down when he wanted to bring back Peirce Bronsen. Kill Bill is basically a love-letter to the kung fu and samurai films that directly influenced Iron Fist. Tarantino took direct inspiration from The Howling Commandos for Inglourious Basterds. He still loves the martial arts genre as he's currently writing two Kill Bill sequels. I think if Marvel ended up giving Quentin free-reign over the project we could end up getting something as fun and re-watchable as the original Blade. The only problem it could take a decade before he ever got around to making it.

while it would certainly be a blast to watch it would never happen. Tarentino's been quoted saying that he doesn't want to do a comic adaptation because he doesn't want to deal with fanboys whining over creative decisions he makes that don't line up with what they want. who can blame him.
edit: found the quote and the interview it's from:

"It wouldn't be an existing comic book character. I'm a writer. I'd want to use my imagination and not have to fight with geeks' memories of how this character should be and, 'Oh, I cast an actor as opposed to a bodybuilder' or it's not as good as the way [DC Comics artist] Neal Adams drew him.' If I were to do something like that, I would want the fun of coming up with the superhero myself."

so yeah apparently he was given the chance to direct green lantern and turned it down. sh**, the possibilities of what we could have gotten.

See, I would be interested in that, especially if he wrote the screenplay. We got a taste of something like that via Whedon.

Tarantino would have been a bad choice for writing/directing Green Lantern.

I think he'd be okay for Iron Fist, but I woudn't want him.

Apparently Damon Lindelof has said he wants to write an Iron Fist story. I reckon if anyone can do it right it would be him. In fact, attaching his name to this would be the best way of getting it made.

I'm not a huge Damon Lindelof fan, but he's a better writer than we usually get at the ground floor of a superhero project, so I'd be up for that.

Typically I think Tarantino is WAY overrated, however, he does have a feel for 70's style filmmaking. While I don't think he's suited for IF, I think he could do an admirable job adapting a Powerman movie in a blaxploitation style homage or a H4H adaptation. However, an Immortal Iron Fist adaptation, I feel would require a certain sublety that Tarantino lacks.

Having just re-read The Last Iron Fist Story for the umpteenth time.... I almost feel like I'd like an Immortal Iron Fist tv series instead of a movie. I feel like it really needs that kind of breathing room. And I mean Immortal Iron Fist too. I could be down with starting it with a lower budget, B-movie, film though.

But I'm torn. Because I also want a Heroes For Hire series.
