I really enjoyed this. Loved that it felt so different from other marvel films. Loved that it felt similar to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Looking forward to seeing it again.

"we're connected"

Should be working now.

Edit. Grrr...still trying to fix the poll. Would be a lot easier with this $#^$^#^ Verizon ad dropping onto the screen. :argh:

Like I said, trust me. We Panther fans know Cam is our franchise QB. Afterall, this is the guy who singlehanded took an entire mid-level program to the BCS national championship, and won, and broke Peyton Manning's records in the NCAA and NFL.

Surround him with talent, and he'll give you a Superbowl. We could have gone 11-5 last year had our defense and special teams not been dreadful.

go Browns! #TrentRichardson2013

What's annoying is my local theater seems to put the 2D show of the same movie on a smaller screen. When I saw TA, they had two massive screens in 3D and one tiny screen in 2D. So that's how I was forced to see it. Annoying as hell knowing that I was able to see something like Inception on a much larger screen because 3D wasn't even a factor with that movie.

I am lucky to say that isn't the case at my theater. But you really do have my sympathies. I hate it as well and I find that if I want to go back a few weeks later, it is only the small screen showing most movies in 2D. Hopefully this will be changing very soon.

Come on. Thats really flimsy at best and you know it. That's really trying to stretch there. Watch Jeremy Jahns new spoiler vid on it. It explains what I think perfectly.

It a plot that makes sense for all intents and purposes. Just not the one we were promised from the first trailer, or at least the expectations that it suggested for the story. That's all. If the lore didn't exist, the story would have been perfectly fine.

And I know it? Wow, arrogant much?

I thought the twist was fine, and not far off from what a real life terrorist would do. Like I said, in the context of the movie, it worked just fine for me. I wasn't speaking for anybody else, fyi. So ... Don't speak for me, mkay?

And the "lore" you're speaking of? That "lore" is considered extremely un-PC nowadays, and I doubt that Marvel Studios would have gotten away with it. The lore that I wanted from The Mandarin was delivered to me in Iron Man 3. He was definitely Tony's biggest threat, on a physical and psychological level. He's the strongest villain that Iron Man has had in his movies so far, in my opinion.

You're clearly not happy with what was done in the movie, and that's fine. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. I did enjoy it though, and I know it. :oldrazz:

Great RB right there!

Good luck later this year. Ya deserve a winning season.

God I hope so.. I mean one of my 3 teams have to be good eventually right? ..but then again my dad's never seen a city team championship haha

Iron Man 3 exceeded all of my expectations...even after going to see it knowing the entire plot and having had all of the twists and turns spoiled for me. It still blew me away.

For me, everything in this film came together perfectly and it really became greater than the sum of its parts. The overall plot was well executed, the script was tight, the dialogue was punchy and hilarious, the characters were fleshed out and given depth, the acting was nuanced and believable, the special effects were astounding, the action was fun and bombastic, the pacing was spot-on, the score was resounding...

Am I gushing over this movie yet?

I guess I have to address the [BLACKOUT]Mandarin[/BLACKOUT] thing, though. I really wish it wasn't this big deal fanboy thing that's become the focal point of every review of Iron Man 3. It's a part of the plot and it works.

[BLACKOUT]So we didn't get a racially stereotypical Chinese warlord with ten magical (or alien) rings. So we didn't get a vaguely middle-eastern terrorist making threats against the nations of the world...even though we kinda did.

We got a brilliant, absolutely ruthless scientist with bad-ass dragon tattoos and Extremis superpowers hell-bent on destroying the man that off-handedly mocked him 13 years ago...just because NOBODY mocks the Mandarin!

Yeah...I'll take that Mandarin any day.[/BLACKOUT]

I really can't say I have any complaints about this film...honestly. But here's some highlights that I really enjoyed...

- The Mark 42 [BLACKOUT]hardly ever working right and becoming the butt of several jokes. This was incredibly fresh and it made Tony far more vulnerable because of it...which is exactly what he needed in this film.[/BLACKOUT]

- Tony's relationship with [BLACKOUT]Harley...hilarious. The give and take here between them was perfect.[/BLACKOUT]

- [BLACKOUT]The panic attacks. I was almost feeling anxious during some of these. You could really understand Tony's sense of powerlessness and fear here...powerful stuff.[/BLACKOUT]

- [BLACKOUT]Tony's jerry-rigged creations when he didn't have his suit. Great to see his mind at work during times of imminent crisis again![/BLACKOUT]

- The ending. [BLACKOUT]It was a fitting end to a chapter and an intriguing beginning to a new one![/BLACKOUT]

EDIT: And, oh, btw...what the hell is the point of a review poll that's closed by the time the movie comes out?

I did not like the ending nor the use of the mandarin.

Don't agree with that at all. This had almost no serious moments in it...even the moments that should have been serious (in conventional movies) was sprinkled with humor in them.

imo the serious moments were more serious than IM1 and the immediate follow up by a gag didn't undermine the drama for me, but some of it was unnecessary. The only part were humor was too much was [BLACKOUT]Right after Maya dies, and after Rhodey's scene, Stark is unfazed and plays with the henchmans. [/BLACKOUT]

Just got home from the theater. Loved every minute of it except for
the "clean slate" protocol and the removal of the arc reactor. It takes the weight behind Tony's description of it as a "terrible privilege" away...not to mention the shrapnel being removable discounts half of Iron Man 2's plot.

[BLACKOUT]i think this was touched in the extremis comic, i was surprsied they didn't explain it in the movie , but the tech didn't exist to remove the shrapnel without killing tony, But that was supposed to be the purpose of Dr. Wu's character, who knew how to remove the shrapnel.[/BLACKOUT]

Also, I can't express how much I ****ing hate 3D. I have a stigmatism in my right eye so my depth perception is abysmal, so even when I have 3D glassess on I can't see the 3D and the hit just ends up looking dark and somewhat blurry. So I have to wear my glasses with the 3D glassess they give me in order to watch the movie in 3D. That feels uncomfortable as ****. And it also ****ing hurts my head and makes my eyes burn when watching the movie. And on top of all that, the theaters will not offer the movie in only IMAX, you HAVE to watch it in 3D IMAX or you're stuck with the small crappy screen.

tl;dr **** these studios. I hate how you have to be a perfect person to enjoy **** these days.

same here, 3D was bearable in Avengers, but in IM3 it was horrendous.

Just got back home, and ... Well ... I enjoyed the HELL out of this movie. It was a Shane Black movie through and through, which isn't a bad thing in my opinion!

Concerning The Mandarin:

[BLACKOUT]This twist will divide fanboys, and I can see it being debated for years to come. I can see why it isn't one's cup of tea. I acknowledge that. In the context of the movie, though, it worked for me ... And in the end, we actually did get The Mandarin, in his dragon tattooed glory. Killian himself professed that he was indeed The Mandarin, so it wasn't just a "fake" character.

Did I want 10 magical rings? Well, I'll admit that I wouldn't complain at all about getting a 100% accurate adaptation from the comics, but I can see why they didn't go that route. The Iron Man movie trilogy has been about science: Science being used for good vs. science being used for evil. The magical stuff is saved for the Thor movies, which works for me in the MCU. You take all of the different elements from each of the Marvel solo movies and mesh them together for The Avengers films. At least that's how I see it. Disagree with me as you wish. :yay:[/BLACKOUT]

Is Iron Man 3 better than The Avengers? Well, no. The Avengers is an extremely difficult act to follow, and I think Iron Man 3 managed to do that very well.

Is Iron Man 3 better than Iron Man 2? You betcha. Iron Man 2 is a very fun movie, but it's a movie that can be easily topped, and Iron Man 3 did that quite easily, in my opinion.

Is Iron Man 3 better than Iron Man 1? Right now, I'm going to say yes and no, leaning more towards no. That doesn't mean this movie isn't any good though! I quite loved it, but I may prefer the first one still. I will say this though: The finale in Iron Man 3 tops the finale in the first movie by a mile, without a doubt.

All in all, I give this movie about an 8.5/10 for now. This movie is a mashup of Iron Man, Lethal Weapon, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which suited my fancies just fine. MCU: Phase Two is off to a really good start. Bring on Thor!

Oh yeah, and Iron Man is the best superhero trilogy to date in my eyes. I can easily say that now. :im:

I was so unsure as to where to place IM3 right after its viewing. Now that i have watched it for a while, i can say its on par with IM, comes real close to avengers. The movie had potential to be the best and beat avengers and didn't reach it, and that is my only gripe.

Let's see if the poll is working now.

my favorite part:

during the plane scene: [BLACKOUT]well actually after the scene, when he saves those people and then while celebrating his success the armor gets SMASHED by the truck... I laughed so hard, didn't expect it one bit at all.[/BLACKOUT]

God I hope so.. I mean one of my 3 teams have to be good eventually right? ..but then again my dad's never seen a city team championship haha

Hey, if New Orleans can get one then it's not hopeless for Cleveland. A team's fortune can change in a single off-season.

Dont understand the hate for the 3d in this film for apost conversion i thought it was on par with the avengers, and pretty solid.

Biggest laugh at my show too. And basically every time he snapped at the kid...which was, you know, every time he talked to him. :funny:

People find that funny still ? It's like he can't talk to people without doing some lame pun every 10 seconds. I can see why Cap wanted to kick his ass on the Helicarrier.

Among some posters sure, same thing happens on every board as you mentioned. Clearly the Foreign reviewers are more keen to this than the US.

As a foreign reviewer, I find this a bit rude. That would be like saying some ******** like "American's don't mind dumb movies, that's why they complain less" or "It's an American movie, so a European's opinion is less valid". Foreigners are just lucky to have an early release, that's it. Many of them came here to talk about the movie when it wasn't out in the US yet, and ignored (intentionally or not) the fact that other people hadn't seen the film yet at the time, and I'm more or less guilty of that myself, I admit. Being a foreigner doesn't mean I'm more or less arrogant than Americans, or that I'm more keen on trashing other people's opinions. Such implications are simply offensive.

I wonder the things that make you laugh.. must be a dry humor type of guy not a fast/jerk/quick quip humor type of guy lol

Saw it, liked it. It's definitely the kind of movie whose pros outweigh its cons.

Pros: Tony- Every scene RDJ's in is the best in the film, with his
"attack" on "Mandarin's" mansion
being a highlight. We see him be a genius on the run, be mentally weak and flawed, and just be a straight-up badass.

The action- While it wasn't as action-heavy as Avengers (I wasn't expecting it to be), the action was intense in all the right places. They were exciting and longer than what the first two had to offer.

The music- Brian Tyler's score was intense, and for once in an IM film, he had a theme I was humming when I left the theater.

The suits- Brief as their appearance might've been, the armors were awesome. That Heartbreaker armor was glorious.

The cons: The ending- No, not the
removal of the shrapnel
, I'm talking about the end of the final battle.
How many movies is it going to take for Marvel to realize that the best way to end a fight between two characters that have been going head to head and have hated each other for an entire movie, is to have the hero defeat the villain. Not the girlfriend, or the best friend. Iron Man has to be the one to take Iron Monger out, not Pepper. Tony Stark should defeat Whiplash, not Rhodey. Now, again, they made the same mistake. I can understand why people might find this to be a nitpick, but come on! Why not have the guy who's been going through hell finally pull it together and put an end to the threat? Same problem with TDKR, except here, he actually could've done something about it. I'm sorry, but I was so let down with that.

Rhodes- Cheadle was great, so this isn't really a complain on him or his character. I was just left wondering where the hell that really nice War Machine Mark 2 was. It was such a nice suit to not include in the film!

Overall, 8/10. Tony's character was extremely well-written. The whole
Mandarin twist
seemed sorta disrespectful at first, but, when
Aldrich comes out with those dragon tattoos and his sick powers
, I totally forgave it honestly. Having Mandarin look like that instead of his original "look" in the film was forgivable in my eyes.

[BLACKOUT]I was completely fine with the prodigal son defeating Mandarin, but ya the Pepper part was over the top and kinda unnecessary [/BLACKOUT]

I did catch Jeremy's vid, and i respect and understand his opinions yours. But it is true that Killian's "Battle Cry" with glowing extremis tattoo + martial arts won many fans over. Everyone has their own checklist of the Mandarin, and Killian fit more in my checklist than Kingsley's appearance did. I do blame the marketing heavily for the bait and switch tactic.

The poll is working now. Yay!

You can do it!

TwE0tZ6.gif

Is it fixable? or do you have to restart the poll?

Restart it. What we have to do is start a new thread with a new poll, then merge the threads and replace the existing poll with the new one.

It's back up now, but if you already voted...you'll have to do it again.

As he's been doing it for four movies now, I would assume people aren't surprised it's still going on. And obviously they still find it it funny, since they were all laughing at my show tonight.
