Is anyone else underwhelmed by what they've seen so far of next-gen?

I've been watching alot of the clips from E3. And while some of the games do look like pretty good games, they're not exactly blowing me away. Maybe it's just that the quality is downgraded alot when watching it on computer, but the graphics really don't look like they've made much of a leap at all. And for the price of the damn PS3, I want to be more impressed! I'm just not. I haven't seen anything I don't feel like I haven't seen before.

The Wii has taken steps to provide us with a different way of playing games. The clips of how these games are played are pretty cool, but I'm still totally underwhelmed. I'm afraid that Wii is going to go the same direction of the last couple Nintendo consoles, and just not have a great selection of games. Everything except Red Steel is kid friendly. Nintendo need more developers, because that controller can do some intuitive interesting stuff. Fishing, shooting a bow and arrow, using a sword, THIS is where the future of gaming could lie. Not in tweaking graphical performances.

The PS3 controller isn't the same thing as the Wiimote. Sony are trying to pretend that it is, but it isn't. And I don't think their "tilt" feature will be used for very many games.

I think I'm bored of alot of games, and I feel like that the games E3 have been showing is all just the same old same old.

No but im overwhelmed and so will be my wallet by the end of this year. :(

I find the graphics to be quite impressive.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Resident Evil, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption aren't kiddy.

All I wanted from Sony was to return to the dual shock design and to see Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, so I am pleased. Sony is not pretending that the Playstation 3 controller is the Wiimote, because the Wiimote can do a hell of a lot more. The Playstation 3 controller just has a minor tilt function. However I am pissed at Sony for the price, because of their price I have to drop my purchase for an Xbox 360 :(

I think I'm bored of alot of games, and I feel like that the games E3 have been showing is all just the same old same old.
The games for the Wii and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots are not the same old, same old.

I've played MGS 1, 2 and 3, plus Twin Snakes. So unless they come up with an entirely new gameplay system, it will be the same old.

All I want to know is, besides things looking nicer, what can these machines do for games that current consoles can't? Well, excluding the Wiimote, the Wiimote is awesome.

it seems the rate of increase of actual gameplay graphis is starting to level off.

it's all good and dandy with the cut scenes but gameplay and graphis seem to be being less and less extreme.

i remember the leaps from nes to snes and from snes to playstation, they were HUGE in comparison to what's happening these days.

Playing is believing...

If I can enjoy a new way to PLAY games, I'll be happy with the gaming industry. Graphics can only matter so much. After all, they're just pictures. Some of the greatest games ever created were labeled so because they took you off in their world and out of yours... good developers don't just rely on graphics to do that... lazy developers do.

Only thing iv noticed is that the guys at Nintendo are morons. The Wii???? That system will be a complete failure. Again Nintendo will fall to the bottom of the list in console gaming, im not surprised.

The Wii has alot going for it over the other consoles.

Affordable. It will fly off the shelves for that reason alone.
New controller that kicks ass.
Zelda, Metroid, Res Evil, Mario.

Wii will do very well, I think.

I agree with Kainedamo for once. Underwhelmed.

Hah, doubt it.As for price, youre probably right. The controller will NOT catch on with the casual gamer. It limits what games you can play on the system. The graphics(from what has been shown at E3) are sub current-gen AT BEST! Now, i know graphics are not everything, but c'mon, its the next generation of gaming, graphics are extremly important. The gamecube, no matter how hard u deny it, was behind both the Xbox and Ps2, expect that trend to continue on in next-gen.

I've been really impressesd with all of the Wii stuff. My interest in PS3 has died off completely. And I'm still in love with the 360. I wasn't really underwhelmed this year, because I wasn't really looking for much. Halo 3 alone got me revved up.

Some Gamecube games were graphically on the same level, in some cases better than PS2 and Xbox. Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Resident Evil remake, 0 and 4.

The Wii has a more "traditional" controller too. So the games that can be played on the Wii are not limited. In fact, because of the new controller, the games it can play will be very different from the games PS3 and 360 will offer. And the new controller was designed to attract new and casual players. Golfing, tennis, fishing, using a bow and arrow, sword fighting, alot of new and intuitive things can be done with the Wiimote.

I guess my taste in games are WAYYY diffrent from the majority here. I think the Wii will be a huge failure. As for E3, i cant get enough footage. My computer has been jammed since Tues eve. I own a 360, so im paying slightly more attention to that, but so far iv been blown away by:

Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway
Madden 07
NCAA 07
Indiana Jones
Stranglehold
Marvel:Ultimate Alliance
Lost Planet(the demo is AWESOME)
F.E.A.R(360)
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Metal Gear Solid 4

And im sure there is more to come. I think the PS3 is slightly overpriced, and dont know if ill pick one up or not, but MGS4 did look f'ing sick!!! Im most hyped for NCAA and Madden cuz they are right around the corner in terms of release.

Well thats my opinion, it just doesnt appeal to me.I think i was a tad bit harsh with that statement. I think the lack of presentation(graphics) is a huge slap in teh face to next-gen gaming. The controller i think is wayy to gimmicky, and just doesnt appeal to a wide mass. I think itll be great to give a 7 yr old, so he can fail around the living room. I just dont think it up to par with the next generation of games.

I think the Wii has unlimited potential at this point.

I can understand why you would say that, but i dont see it outselling the Ps3 or the Xbox 360, or even coming close for that matter. For example, take Zelda for instance, Link uses a sword right? Well with the Wii, your controller is the sword, AWESOME, right?? WRONG. Thats all great until your sword connects with an object yet your Wii controller doesnt. It wont feel right, your sword on screen stops, but you little wii controller keeps going. Unless they are adding an ass of feedback, or even an electric shock, you are not going to get the feel of a sword fight.

Project Pat, were you one of those who thought the DS was going to bomb?

No, the DS never was my cup of tea, but since i was in the business, i new that handhelds were gonna be pretty big, to a certain audience.

No, its not ment to be the sword, it just controls it more like one.

Do you freak out when you push a putton to attack and the badguy blocks it?

Its comparable to any fishing controller out there, its great, and realistic UNTIL you catch a fish, then you realise how much it sucks. Thats what will happen with the Wii(imo)

this is got to be the stupidest comment, the wii remote is just like usinga TV remote controll, instead of chnaging channals youll be controlling the characters and actually interacting with them and the enviroment, it will catch on. and no graphics are not extremely important, the gaming industry is gonna get to the point(very soon too) that
graphics just arent going to cut it anymore. and nintendo knows this and theyve already beaten the other two to the spot,by next next gen nintendo is gonna have something big planned. and looking at the prices of the consoles for MS and sony, theyre going to set themselves up forfailure.

although it's your opinion, i think your just a dumbass gamer. but hey thats just my opinion.
