Alfred in the cave after Bruce asksfor the files on his parents-

Bruce: Something bothering you Alfred.

Alfred: I have no desire to think about past employers, or there sons.

Or words to that effect, i can just never see Alfred saying that, just me that thinks that?

No, he said "I have no wish to fill my few remaining years grieving for the loss of old friends. Or their sons"

He didn't say he didn't want to think about them.

If he did then maybe they'd hire him back at Buckingham Palace?

Thats it, Still out of character ( i spelt it wrong in the title can a mod correct it for me please)

I dont think it was out of character. It was Alfred trying to get thru to Bruce that he doesnt have to try to save the city on his own. That there are other ways, and that there is so much more to be had in life than revenge. It was a way to try to get Bruce to re-evaluate what hes doing. It was said out of love and concern for Bruce. Thus Keatons expression in reponse to his statement.

yeah, it was totally in character...he doesnt want to live out the rest of his life feeling sad for the Waynes all the time, and he doesnt want to have to feel that way about Bruce as well.

Nope perfectly in character and one of the reasons why Gough is the best Alfred.

Perfectly in character. Alfred has been always not too comfortable with Bruce's double life and the consequences of it. Besides, Alfred has always been something of a paternal figure to Bruce. At that point of the movie, Alfred is quite angry at how Bruce has been handling things; the way he's been toying with Vicki's feelings or has been obssessed reviving his trauma for the sake of it.

Which leads me to another thing: I have never ever been contrary to the idea that Alfred got Vicki into the Batcave. Bruce should have been being honest to Vicki long time ago but he simply hadn't. Alfred felt he had to push him for the sake of everybody.

He did try to tell her at her place before Joker interupted

It was one of the best Gough/ Alfred lines in that universe of films. That is Alfred right there, combining worry/ love/ sarcasm/ innuendo.

Reminds me of the good old days, when Alfred did not only say sarcastic comments to Batman all the time.

Wether its in character or not, I've always thought bruce takes far too much **** from his PAID employee. I keep waiting for this conversation:

Bruce: Listen old man, keep your nose out of my proffessional and personal life and get on with what I pay you for. Now get out my face and go polish my sculpted plastic torso!!

Alfred: Listen weirdo, dont take it out on me just because you haven't got any freinds.

Bruce: (hurt) Thats cold!

Alfred: It's supposed to be cold.

More of a father figure than a paid employee but the dialogue was really funny!

It's not like he can't call her or try again. But no, he had to make his vanishing act and go back to hide himself in his cave.

just after he banged her, she woke up and saw him hanging upside down and flapping his arms like a BAT!! You think that would have tiped her off!! And the next morning, she doesan't even mention it!!

Alfred is ALOT more to Bruce than a paid employee. He's a father figure to him. And fathers are allowed to say stuff like that to their sons.

Yeah Gouth/keaton had the chemistry of alfred and bruce that bale and cain lacked. And i will never get used to a cockney geezer alfred.

Both Bruces and Alfreds have great chemistry IMO. I dare say that Gough even had chemistry with Kilmer AND Clooney.

I remember gough saying he was really happy that kilmer was gonna be batman, because he had a great time when he worked with him on the film "Top Secret!". He also said he really liked michael keaton.

Agreed. It was good scripting.
