Sorry, THIS IS NOT THE BATCAVE.

I'm a huge fan of Chris Nolan, brilliant director especially from a narrative point of view, but this hyper-realist minimalist stuff has to go.

8 years being hyped up about the Batcave and this is the end result?!!!
A hole in the ground with 2 pillars, one that holds the batcomputer and suit, surrounded by a frickin moat/pond? I'm really disappointed.

I wasn't expecting something grand like Burton's batcave cause it's Nolan, but something scifi/fantasy/modern that fit in the space of cave in BB, something along the lines of the cave in Batman Arkham Asylum, with the various levels and grated platforms with a MASSIVE BATCOMPUTER and different chambers for tools and suits, etc...or like the New DC 52 Batman batcave, both seemed Nolanesque. I really hoped for something like that at least and they could've done it.

They could've had secret sub-contractors come in to strengthen the foundation in the cave and build levels (like they kinda did) and the excuse could've been a massive panic room that Wayne wanted. Then Wayne and Co. could've added all the Bat-related elements and fitted other components that they didn't want the contractors to do. If they really need to hide the batcomputer, it could've slid behind a cave wall and if they had a suit room, a door could've come down to conceal it.

They had so much potential to do a great batcave, even if it was grounded like Nolan has done, but I think they failed. It just doesn't scream Batman or Batcave to me. Tony Stark had a better setup in the Iron Man movies than Nolan's Batman.

That's the one thing that bothered me the most about the Nolan films. Burton had great creative design/style but lacked a strong narrative, Nolan had the great narrative but lacked the creative design/style.

Batman Begins cave was cool because this was when Bruce was just starting out. Everything was raw, unfinished, even the bunker in TDK was fine, because it was practical to the situation at hand. I would've thought by now since Bruce is and has been BATMAN, 8 years since TDK, that there would be a dynamic BATCAVE, instead of an empty void.

The only upshot is the 1 shot with Bruce at the computer with waterfall behind, which is a beautiful shot.

You got all of that out of a handful of production photos?

Nolan lacked creativity? You kidding me?

Creatively on a purely design level, excluding the tumbler. Everything is too grounded in reality and too void of something more richer and dynamic that could still be of course, grounded.

My point is that I wish he would open up more to style and design, in that it's Batman.

I've felt that, especially in TDK, that Batman was more or less a glorified and theatrical swat guy with issues, then Batman.

It's not my ideal looking Batcave, but I like it. I think it works. 1000x better than the Bunker, IMO.

I thought the bunker was quite good, but indeed, it's very hard to beat the moody, comic like visuals of the batcave.

I wonder if he still uses the piano for the entrance, or if they built something different.

I hope we get something like that. Turning a clock to the time of his parent's death would be ideal.

It's ALMOST as I imagined it would be. I'm pleased.

It looks pretty much how I was expecting it to, which is the cave from Begins but with the equipment and tech from the bunker. I love how vacuous it is, especially in the still of Bruce sitting alone at the bat-computer. Nearly everything is hidden yet all the essentials are there. It reflects Batman very well.

I love it.

And yeah, that pic of Bruce sitting alone is very impactful IMO. It just reflects his state of mind.

This Batcave is basically the Batman Begins cave mixed with the penthouse bunker of TDK. It has a very "Nolan-ish" feel to it. I mean, this is the third Nolan Batman film. The style and the look of his Batman universe is well established, and you either like that style or you don't but either way you know what you're getting at this point.

Plus, if Bruce Wayne has hung up the Bat suit for eight years and basically retired from crime fighting, why would he need to have a giant computer?

This was probably built and finished around the end of TDK. So everything would have been set in place with some minor final finishes. I kinda knew this style batcave design was coming, but was hoping for something different, considering it's the batcave.

Maybe he still spends his days there monitoring the goings on in the city, like in TDK when he's sewing himself up while watching surveillance cameras. He gave up not sleeping in a penthouse so he could not sleep in a mansion.

Or he could be spending all his new free time playing Angry Birds. ;)

Love the "new" Bat-cave, fits perfectly with what has been before and at the same time it gives a new feel. That shot of Bruce in front of the computer all alone in the big cave is great imagery.

I've said all the time that what I expected and wanted, was the BB cave with the TDK bunker technology. Almost exactly what we got.

I've always been a fan or the more mundane and simple Bat-caves.

It's okay. It seems to have the same sense of emptiness and drabness that Nolan appears to like in visuals. It's not "my" batcave, but it could have been worse.

I thought "mundane" was always a pejorative term. May I use that in my sig?

Well english is not my first language, so I might not get all the meanings right. :(

But what I meant is that I like the more low-key approach to the cave.

I didn't mean to criticize your usage at all, and there is nothing grammatically wrong with it. It's just an unusual expression that made me smile.

Anyway, your English is guaranteed to be 1000 times better than my anything else. :yay:
