Is Marvel Studios Dropping the Ball?

This thread is ridiculous. It's not as though they are going to have an announcement every week two years out. They are actively working on Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and Ant-Man and they didn't make any official announcements because there are currently no announcements to make. I'm sure we'll be hearing a Thor director announcement before too long as well as official resignings of Downey and Favreau.

Agree. There is absolutely nothing to say about Marvel right now. Giving 2 sometimes 3 movies per year most be exhausting. So maybe 2009 s gonna be quiet so what? let them rest. I'm sure they ll come back stronger. Instead You should ask that question to DC.

You can't really say anything to DC, they're owned by WB and all their properties are in the WB's creative control. Marvel, however, is in 100% control of their films. I never said Marvel dropped the ball, but it seems like they're in the process of doing so.

The Thor script has been finished since spring, and only minor rewrites were needed for it. It's also taking a really, really, long time to manufacture a Captain America script. Neither project has a director. Under Marvel's own release dates they presented, it seems highly unlikely either film will be made on time.

So all of there projects will likely be pushed back with nothing going on interim. That's not good for a fledgling studio. Presence is everything in the movie biz. If you stop moving with things, people will forget about you and move on.

Not true. The script that got out in the spring was budgeted at three hundred million and Protosevich was told that "needed to be cut in half". That is hardly minor rewrites.

Iron Man didn't have a script done at comic-con 2006, so to say the fact that Cap's script being incomplete 3 years before release will have any impact on it making its date is ludicrous. And the fact that neither film has a director officially signed doesn't mean much. Leterrier and Favreau were both in talks for quite a while before they "officially" signed on, as is standard with any non-rushed tentpole picture (*cough*X3*cough*)

Just because nothing is being announced doesn't mean nothing is moving.

I've got no problem with them taking their time. In fact I wouldn't mind them pushing the dates back a smidge, but I was hoping for them to surprise us with some small morsel of new news during the biggest weekend for comic and film fans to wet our appetites.

they did have footage of Wolverine.....

i dont understand why there is this need for Marvel to have doen something in response to TDK...no one looked at Jet Li when Jackie Chan hit it big in Rush Hour as if to say he needs to do something

My view is that they have put in a TON of hard work and are taking a bit of a breather while trying to figure out how to set up the run towards the Avengers.

Also I think that all these dates about Thor and CA will change cause I mean look what happened with CA. It got pushed back 2 years!

Cause apparently Marvel fanboys think that TDK needs to be toppled straight away/ASAP otherwise the DC fanboys will get carried away with the success of the movie. TDK essentially stole the summer thunder from IM.

As far as I'm concerned TDK was amazing and the best hero flick to date. It'll be a while before that ever gets topped. That being said I could care less about any kind of competition between Marvel Studios and WB/DC. My expectation for any kind of news from Marvel Studios during SDCC is independent to any success TDK has and will continue to get. Again cheers to TDK but make mines Marvel

I love that Jjackie Chan comment...

If Marvel were to go and announce something

1. It would be simply to combat The Dark Knight hype, and it would more than likely be a pie in the sky idea that would get delayed.

2. No one would care since everyone is wrapped up in The Dark Knight.

Wait until after The Punisher...no wait...wait until after Wolverine...no sense making announcements after a bomb.

I just got some news from Marvel....

Hugh Jackman has just taken a crap.

Stay tuned for an update.

That just appears to be the nature of the Marvel/DC fanboy beast.

Yeah, what's up with Punisher & Wolverine? One is a small joint venture project and the other is on loan to Fox.

Marvel Studios films are Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man 2. It's a small set of projects that were officially started around 2005.

My point is for all the movies they gave us so far, I allow them to push future movies back. Trust me people will not forget Marvel. Actually it 's the contrary :the more Marvel stay in the shadow, the more the people will be exited for their comeback.

My only problem is priority, I rather see a new superhero movie than a sequel. I would have like to see Cap & Thor before iron man2 or spider-man 4. Other than that Marvel is in really good hand and they re doing a fantastic job. Like some one said: Wolverine is coming.

As for WB I am more than happy about TDK succes. Although on question remains: what the f*** is gong on with the other superheroes?

Who said that? I vaguely mentioned TDK once, and it wasn't in that kind of reference. I'm not looking at things from a fan standpoint. I'll go see whatever movie they make whenever they release it. I'm talking business here. it could be as much as 2 years before we get another Marvel Studios film. What movie company goes that long without releasing anything? I don't want Marvel to rush anything, but at this point there should really be more progress made with their properties.

You make a really good point, but there's moving and then there's MOVING. It just seems in comparison to other projects these one's are really just dragging. Once again, there's also the matter of securing talent for these films. Jon Favreau is still not officially signed to IM2. It's not just release dates I'm talking here, it's the overall business practices. Between that, the Ed Norton disputes, lack of SDCC news, no releases for all of 2009, and no Matt Vaughn, it just seems like most news coming out over the last few months is troubling. It makes me wonder what's going on. Am I the only one seeing bad signs?

Some stuff takes time. You cant expect them to have a movie every 6 months. You say DC has momentum but they have been in and out of projects since X-Men and Spiderman were in theaters.

Ok marvel released blade blade 2 blade trinity spiderman spiderman 2 and spider man 3 xmen xmen 2 xmen 3 F4 F42 dardevil elektra and ghost rider punisher..... in between all that dc brought out batman begins and superman returns Nuff said

Marvel did that all through different studios, and those arnt the only movies DC greenlit just the ones the got completed working through one studio

Nope, I think it's a huge missed opportunity.

They let WB/DC take the glory with TDK and Watchmen. Looks like the momentum is in WB/DC now although they're started GL & Flash projects years before Marvel announcing Thor and Captain America.

Yeah & we're gonna get Thor & Cap sooner than those two. (Which sucks because those two & BM are the only DC characters I really like)

I don't think Watchmen will do that good, mainly because it's R. It might get good reviews, but R-rated summer movies are usually lucky to make over 200 mil. (Excluding sequels to well-known franchises like Terminator)
