Is porn corrupting society?

"That's somebody's daughter." That argument didn't work when I leered after the chick in yoga pants, it sure as hell won't work watching porn.

It might be informative but it smells of a biased lean even as they try to say they are not.

Definitely biased. The home page is filled with ridiculous stories of lives miraculously changing because they stopped *********ing.

The URL and homepage was what set off a warning bell in the first place. I looked at their "about this site" page and it claimed to be secular and unbiased but that doesn't mean anything when most of your content is clearly leaning in one direction with little to no counter content offsetting it. I didn't have time earlier to see what other studies and pseudo studies or claims were made on the site.

Almost certainly already posted but I found this really interesting:

"The Great Porn Experiment"

I'm not necessarily against porn as a rule, but it's certainly worth looking into how it affects people (both the participants and the end users) and society as a whole.

I just hope Faye Reagan is doing ok.

The only gingah woman this black heart could ever love.

The problem is getting funding that doesn't have the sole agenda of proving it is negative. There is no shortage of people looking for confirmation of it and yet society has not imploded or turned into sex maniacs or loose morals or any of the other doom and gloom proclamations that have yet to come to pass.

It depends on the person to be honest. Can porn distort social opinions about women and race? Absolutely.

It can be a highly powerful agent on the right mind. To others it does nothing but to some it does affect them quite vigorously.

Figuring out the numbers in a properly conducted study would be good but to be honest there are a ton of TED out there that provide overwhelming evidence it does more bad than good.

Especially when it comes to the rewarding system and dopamine's.

As with everything, moderation is key.

But how many guys who enjoy porn watch it only a couple times a week.

I feel these sort of discussions are pointless for any number of reasons, but most of all... Okay. Assume that there can be a verdict of "It's bad and there is no question about it" (which I disagree with. I think it simply "is") well then... What's the supposed solution? Are we to, if the answer is it's a terrible cancer on society, start prohibiting it's production? Are there going to be resources, time and energy, manpower and the rest dedicated to stamping it out? Is this something in which we start spending money from the public coffers on?

See... I just think adults need to start thinking like adults and not trying to view the world the way they did when they were kids. If you want to be virtuous that's your decision. But I no longer have much interest in imposing my virtue on others or society as a whole, and I certainly don't want others imposing their virtues on me especially with some really specious "facts" and conclusions they think back up their viewpoint.

It's all relative. The problem is that there are people who can't accept that. People who can't fathom porn being nothing but destructive. That opinion is fueled by their own biased values. And the other side are people who love porn and think that anyone who doesn't like porn must be ignorant or prudish.

That's the problem with any vice. People either think you have to be sorely against or addicted to it. Moderation does not exist in this dojo.

i'm actually on the " yourbrainonporn/nofap " bandwagon, which is apparently an unpopular opinion , because everyone just wants an excuse to continue fapping to a computer screen. :o

now, i've failed MANY times, but that won't stop me from trying , lol

i truly believe i couldn't get it up for my (now ex ) gf years ago due to porn induced erectile dysfunction as well as performance anxiety . but that's just me.

it's also not going to teach you to be a better love maker at all.

There's a pretty good book called the "Porning of America."

It gives a history of pornography and of certain media tropes through out the last 100 years of American culture.

Interestingly the way they chart it, many of the more violent or degrading or particularly rapey tropes of modern porn have actually been more or less absent in a lot of porn at times instead coming through in things like comics and pulp novels.

They don't co think that porn necessarily "corrupts" society but there is certainly a feedback loop between porn and main stream culture. There are definitely certain sexual acts that porn has help to normalize and porn fueled expectations have resulted in specific pressures put on young girls.

Rats are a pretty terrible way to study human sexuality has they have completely different mating patterns.

Even other primates make for bad models in this regard.

I tend to limit my porn viewing to talent owned/distribution models, try to be a supportive and responsible consumer

like Burning Angel, Kink.com, Girlfriend Films

What hardcore porn did the Nazis and Stalin watch as teenagers?

It's just another new thing to blame for 'moral decay'. Video games, rap music, rock and roll, opera, ect. have all been blamed for the same stuff and it really doesn't pan out.

All porn does is give you an unrealistic expectation of sex for your first time. :p

or for the rest of your life.

or make your dick limp unless you watch the latest " anal gape " video on xxx.xxx , making you relatively useless to a woman.

It's more than just sexual for some. It can be psychologically and socially pervasive.

Again, not to everyone but any guy that has gone on a "spree" can attest that it can get a little nuts (hah).

Dani Daniels looks like Marion Cotillard, but with a hnnnnngh booty.

So true. But that's for almost any pastime. Gaming and exercise are two that come to mind immediately. Those people are merely outliers that get blown out of proportion by someone attempting to prove a point.

On the rare "spree" that I'll participate in if I have absolutely nothing to do on a given day, the ending thought is usually that I literally wasted the day. Then I'll hang my head in shame...until the engine revs up for the next round.

:o

Romances give women an unrealistic expectation for relationships.

Women should stop watching and reading them. :ninja:
