Kathy Griffin Makes Offensive Religious Remarks About Jesus

Personally as a Christian, I am not so much angry at what she as I feel bad for her. Yeah she is going to get herself some attention from this, but the majority is going to be negative. Things like this can kill a career. Don Imus was fired for what he said, the same may very well happen to Kathy. And look at what the networks are doing they are going to edit what she said so it is not seen on TV. Fox and E know what something like this can do to their business, the network Kathy works for may have to do something about her.

But being a Christian and an American, I agree she not only has freedom of speech going for her, but free will as well. I get it, she told a joke. A bad one, but a joke none the less. was I offended? Not really. It takes a lot more then that to get me pissed off.

Someone on here said that true Christians get offended by lots of things and wouldn't watch her kind of comedy anyway. You are wrong. Just because we are Christian doesn't mean we don't watch the same stuff everyone else does, or listen to the same music, or read the same books. I for one love horror movies, heavy metal music, fantasy novels and dark comedy. Now there are some older people in my church that don't like those things. but for the most part the younger generation (40 and under) tend to like those things too. Nothing is bad in moderation, it is when you start living your life for nothing but these things that it becomes a problem. Heck the old people (over 45) in my church hate Harry Potter but have never even read the books to know why they hate him. But those under 45 seem to love the books and movies and the message of good winning over evil. So please don't lump Christians into one group. While some of us need to be put down for being too over the top in our beliefs, the majority of us are just normal everyday people who have the same likes and dislikes as everyone else.

Why would they on that particular remark? It's not directed at homosexuals in general.

Again, huge difference in the context of the comments. You're contending that there is a similarity between unsubstantiated opinion about a particular group of people and offhand remarks about believing in a new god.

You see, her comments weren't directed at Christians, but a figure that they deify. They were offended at comments drawn about something they worship, not at comments about them in particular.

He wasn't able to match the context of what was said with his comments any better than you.
Bill, the context we are matching here is offensiveness. A crass comment directed to either spot -- homosexuals, or Jesus Christ, -- is a deep-felt insensitivity, by real individuals who shouldn't have to ask you to politely stop.

Your comment that mine and other arguments are invalid because they don't take into account the degree of direction, is rather stupid.

I don't know about you, but methinks that Jesus would find her remarks funny

Oddly enough you are more then likely right. I always have said God has a twisted sense of humor. He did create us after all.:oldrazz:

Boy.....this thread is a regular feasting frenzy. The world hates Christianity. but Jesus said it would. Not surprised at these responses. Even from so-called christians.

Oh well....

If she told your mother to "suck it" that wouldn't offend you? Not in the least?

I never said "invalid." I said, "mountain out of a mole hill."

And the "degree of direction" should be taken into account, but that wouldn't be my reasoning for making your argument invalid. If you actually said something like, "all atheists are hedonists" or "the gay people are trying to ride the coattails of the real civil rights movement and the gay rights movement is a piece of crap," then you'd be well within your rights of free speech, but you'd also be called on it becase they are assertions. You are making a very specific generalization to a very specific group of people. Saying "Jesus can suck it, this is my god now(or something to that affect) isn't making any generalization that needs explaining. In fact, if you do need that comment explained, then perhaps you'd like your diaper changed too.

So, really, get over it.
