It seems there hasn't been much conversation about this character, so I thought I'd start one...

It's no secret the Avengers could use some female members. It looks like we'll be getting Scarlet Witch (unless the whole Quicksilver battle ends up with the twins not being used in Avengers 2), and I bet we get Wasp at some point with Ant-Man. How about Spider-Woman?

Since HYDRA has already been established, her origins wouldn't be hard to incorporate, possibly in a Captain America film first. Or she could just be a product of SHIELD.

Do you think her rights are complicated due to the similarity to Spider-Man? I'm not sure how these rights issues work. Would the name Spider-Woman or visual allusions to his costume (like the eyes) be usable?

I think its moot, because its simply unlikely they'd ever use her. She's a weird mess of a background, and wouldn't really add much to Avengers. Vastly more likely they'd use Carol Danvers, Wasp, or even Monica Rambeau first.

Not for Avengers 2,but down the line, yes. I've actually made a thread on this and it's been talked about in the Cap 2 section in the past. She would be perfect to use in a future Cap or Avengers movie further dealing with HYDRA. The character is the perfect fit for the MCU quite honestly. She's a double agent and would be the perfect kind of character stir things up in a future movie and is also another one of those characters they can take liberty with her origin with because she's not particularly well known and, with a few nips and tucks, it makes perfect sense with the direction they're taking things.

I doubt her rights are tied with Spider-Man btw. Even if the Spider-Woman name is for some reason, they should still be able to use her real name Jessica Drew, and then they can just call her codename "The Spider" or something.

She'd add a lot to the Avengers. Her backstory IS somewhat of a mess in the comics because of how she's constantly been reinterpreted to fit her increasing role in the comics, but with just a bit of work it fits perfectly into the MCU and gives the Avengers this sort of major poison pill to stir things up more. I can see her being placed on the team by SHIELD to assist in a mission and then the Avengers' plans being sabotaged and them wondering who the rat is. It makes for great theatre.

I want to see her someday working with the Avengers!

Actually it wouldn't be all that difficult to add her somewhere down the line.
Example Wundagore was her Birth place with High Evolutionary. Wundagore was also where Pietro and Wanda were left as infants, I can see the three playing together at some point at Wundagore.

So many people forget that place did have a place in Avenger history before any X-Books had gotten real popular.

I can see Jessica out of costume wandering around a SHIELD building or area with people getting the shivers as she passes by.
Until then I'm not sure who has the Spider-Woman license.

It wouldn't make sense for anyone but Marvel to have it. Spider-Woman has no connection to Spider-Man at all. Even if for some weird reason Sony has the rights to the name Spider-Woman, Marvel should definitely have the actual character of Jessica Drew.

Surely Marvel still has the rights.

Maybe as Jessica drew? Her other name would probably distract a few people.

She would be cool though

I think they do. I'm not sure because of the Animated show awhile ago, but yeah there MIGHT be a problem with the character's last name. lol

The Spider-Woman motion comic was great.

She's one of the easiest to introduce *in* Avengers.
