To date, majority of super hero movies have been Earth bound stories. I know, Supes and Krypton, but still mainly an Earth bound story.

Does the introduction of the SS give movie makers a reason to go beyond our Solar System for super hero movie material? Think of the possibilities .....

Avengers - Kree/Skrull War
Silver Surfer himself
Star Jammers
Etc
Etc

I think if FF2 is successful and the story is well concieved, then defainately yes!!!:word:

Yes difinitely.

I hope the whole thing is handled extremely well, there's so much potential for a great story and visuals.

That's what the Fantastic Four is all about....they are not about catching the bank robber, even though they of course help those in need.....they are about space exploration, other worlds....that's what makes them different from superheros like Batman and Spiderman.....and one of the reasons why I find the interesting.....

Yes.
Fantastic Four at its best is a family "dramedy" deftly woven into cosmic-scale adventure. There's simply nothing else like it. :yay:

It looks like they're much closer to "duplicating" that formula onscreen this time.

The F4 are imaginaunts and I love how they are scifi with comedy.

The people who keep complaining about the comedic elements just don't get the FF.
A friend of mine just complained to me about the Torch saying "Can we talk?" while he's caught in the Surfer's grip.
That line is perfectly in character.
My friend just doesn't get it.

FF can turn serious on a dime, but the humorous edge is always there. Ben's wisecracks in the face of whatever...It's not that different from Spider-man, and I'm always reading people complaining that movie Spidey doesn't crack wise enough. :whatever:

The Fantastic Four were concieved as an amalgam of pulp sci-fi adventurers (like Doc Savage) and super-heroes. Following that model, they were explorers and problem-solvers of global and cosmic threats rather than crime-busters (like almost every other hero of the time). Good for TS for pushing forward a story which reflects this.

Hmmm...very good point. I can't think of an A list superhero movie that has tackled a cosmic entity to date. General Zod et al don't count compared to the Surfer and Galacticuts (SP).

It definitely has the potential to become more of a sci-fi comicbook movie. X3 couldn't go into the whole shiaar stuff with Phoenix because of the realistic tone set up by the first 2 films but Silver Surfer is an alien entity so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

It's not about wisecracks, these characters seem goofy during the most serious of times. Like nothing serious matters, that comes off like ass on screen. I love the jokes, but they need to be timed. How can anyone not take what the Silver Sufer is doing as serious, it makes his threat and certainly Galactus' threat seem like a joke?

I thought the TV spot was cool, but I still see the goofiness in the characters and the acting, like they were just handed their scripts for the first time and the director said..."just read it the camera is rolling." It's hard to believe a single thing that comes from these actors' mouth.

Personally, I would kill Mother Goose just to see a serious scene (just one scene) with the Fantastic Four, you know, being that the entire world in about to swallowed and all. I'd rather see this than any special effects WETA has to offer. Or maybe I should just watch the movie for the pretty effects, like I did with ID4.

I am still hoping for a Green lantern movie that will take place mostly in space...

Actually I would say the Superman movies were very sci-fi-ish also. There was alot of outerworldly stuff happening.Such as General Zod and his crew,Krypton,The constant space travel etc.

Where in the TV Spot does it imply that the F4 took Galactus and the Silver Surfer as a joke?

In the TV Spot I saw, it seemed they were takin' it pretty serious.

"Everywhere this thing goes...8 days later a planet dies."
"How do you fight something that can eat planets?"
"Leave that to me."

I fail to see the humor in the way those lines were delivered. The only real humor in the TV spot was w/ the FF and the "so hot" line...and since that was INTENDED humor, I don't see the problem.

And to backtrack to the first movie, I don't recall the F4 taking their final battle w/ Dr. Doom very lightly either...they actually seemed pretty serious.

^^ Well as you can see people are still wanting to cast FF in the mold of say a BB or SR but it is not gong to happen.

That works for Blade, it may even have worked for GR, but I like how they did that too, did not have to but they could have.

Over the years as the Xmen got darker and darker with the rising popularity of Wolverine i found that those comic books simply wore me out. After a while it is like eating chalk.

I much prefer the lighter fare that makes you laugh that you can watch or read time and time again. Something that does not always make you want to cry or something.

Now there will come a time when the other type of movie will be a welcome change from the norm but I think that this type of movie with the lighter tone should be the norm and the darker ones the exception.

Plus I just found the recent TV spot funny and outrageous, and the reason for that is that it just worked.

Sue's line was not classic comic book sue but in that scene if they are talking about the Fantasticar it was just hilarious and it worked and that is the signature of a director that can move the source material to another level and make it fresh and that is what that scene was, Fresh.

And I loved it.

I hope you're not getting the impression that I don't like the tone of F4, because I do...

I'm just merely responding to that poster who said that the F4 don't take anything seriously...which is NOT true.

^^No I understood you perfectly I was just backing you up.

I agree and about the attempts to use Batman Begins and the "grittier" SH films as a yardstick. I like that the FF movies embrace the old school comics. I really don't like the superhero movies that show fight scenes that look like they choreographed in the martial arts style. Even though it could have been done a better, the fight in the streets at the end of the FF is the kind of fight scene Jack Kirby would have done... bodies flying everywhere and general all round "Clobbering Time" roundhouse punching. That's also the appeal of the Spidey films too for me.

And I totally agree about the X-Men comics, too much "woe is us poor pitiful mutants" angst.

Not the first superhero movie to do so but i think it's Marvel's first to go this route.

In terms of personality characterization, the F4 got it right and have handled it pretty well moreso than the spidey movies imo. I mean Johnny's cracking more wise than spidey in these movies and thats just absurd. Spidey is the king of juvenile banter yet these movies make him a mute.:o
