Is Svartalfheim and the other Nine Realms what you expected them to look like?

When I see Odin cast an enchantment on a hammer with a whisper, I'm not sure we've established their powers are not literally magic.

And with Malekith coming into it, I reckon (hope) TTDR is going to clear it up in favour of magic being real and practiced in the 9 worlds.

Plus there's always those Dr Strange movie rumours.

Truthfully, none of the realms have really fit the world I'd imagine, save Earth of course.

I would love to see The Avengers tearing through some rural neighborhoods. Not by choice as they wouldn't want to cause casualties.

Yeah thought of that with the one scene you see Thor and Mal on Jotunheim with the Frost Beast, but since we really don't know where the Casket IS, (fallen into the abyss, magically back in the vault via Odin ) since Loki's last use of it makes me wonder if Mal does have it after all.

Thinking the planets alined like Thor says every 5,000 years acts like Asgard's Bifrost but in shadow/dark energy and allows the Dark elves to travel easy from world to world too. and and so much an effort to use like it caused Odin just before Avengers to get Thor to Earth

It would be awesome if Malekith did have the Casket. Loki had it on him when he dropped into the abyss. Maybe Thanos took it from Loki and gave it to Malekith to shake things up. It would make since if all things will tie together down the road. They wouldn't have to mention it or they could mention it but not necessarily explain it in TTDW. Kind of like how in The Avengers Thor asked Loki on the mountain who showed him this power in relation to the Tesseract. He asked it, but there was no further interrogation towards Loki about it....it was just left open.

And the question should damn well be asked again at Loki's trial. Otherwise, it's going to be confusing as hell for people who aren't familiar with the backstory, or have forgotten it after a couple of years or so. Not to mention the fact that people who *do* still remember *still* want to know who the Big Purple Guy is, and how he ties in with Loki and the rest of the MCU.

Hope to god Feige nudges Taylor towards resolving those "loose ends" from The Avengers. If he doesn't, and they just conveniently sweep Thanos under the rug until GOTG, it's going to be a spectacular fail of epic proportions.

One simply does not ignore Thanos.

I was corrected on here some time ago in regards to the casket. Apparently it was placed within that ice tree figure in the BiFrost when Loki attacked Johunteim. So he didn't have it on him when he fell into the abyss.

It's more than likely destroyed or lost somewhere in space or one of the realms.

I think Svartalfheim is suppose to be wasteland, so they can pretty much get away with anything. Truthfully, none of the realms have really fit the world I'd imagine, save Earth of course.

Same here. I hope it was due to budget limitations. If not, then they should have fired whoever came up with the art/designs for them. They all look similar but with a different color scheme, just wastelands.

Oh hell! It shows Loki opening the BiFrost. Then the portal opening onto Johtunheim. Then it cuts back to Loki, and right then you see the Casket and it appears as though ice forms in front of the Casket and then the ice starting to form out in branches. Never noticed that before. So yeah I guess when Thor breaks the Rainbow Bridge and the BiFrost falls it went too.

I agree that all the realms so far apart from Asgard look similar but a different colour scheme, just wastelands. Jotunheim and Svartalfheim to me look the same with a blue colour scheme for Jotun and a green colour for Svartalfheim. There's no sense of a world or sense of community, it's just a wasteland.

The only realm so far that I love the look of is Vanaheim because at least that realm has a sense of community and a unique medieval/viking look.

Since I'm not familar with the comics and haven't read my Norse mythology books in quite a few years, I'm not sure which realm is Vanaheim. In the trailer is that the one that actually has trees and a forest? Where Thor destroys that stone creature?

Yes, Vanaheim is the one in the trailer where Thor destroys that stone creature (Stone Men of Saturn) with the trees and the forest.

To explain Vanaheim, it is the sister race/realm of Asgard, but is less advanced than Asgard, that's why it looks Medieval/Viking.

I still don't like how a number of the realms look the same, so I hope it wasn't just ****** decisions from the art team because that would be incredibly disappointing that that's the best they could come up with.

So I'm hoping that, if that's the look we're going to get, that maybe Malekith has been ravaging and destroying the lands as well as the life on them. That would make the landscapes less annoying for me, knowing that that's not how they've always looked.

And yeah, I hope it is true, but once again the film is 111 mins and we have Asgard, Vanaheim, Earth, Svartalfheim, Jotunheim (seen in TV spot), Muspelheim (if they are building up to Surtur), Hel (Tom Hiddleston mentioned that in interview) and now Alan Taylor is mentioning Nidavellir. I wish the film was 135 mins something like that instead of 111/112 mins

That's a good question, and off the top of my head I can't think of a good answer. In the early 616, I remember them sort of living underground in Asgard proper, but that was when Asgard was the size of a continent at least, and had lots of other realms shared within it. Suffice it to say, a lot of the other realms have not been dealt with consistently.

Then again, this is the MCU, so they have some freedom. I could see them lumping Dwarves and Trolls on the same world since they are both sort of subterranean races.

Agreed. I'm trying not to get hung up on the runtime thing. If we only get a glimpse of all the different realms, I'd be okay with it.

EDIT: Speaking of trolls, I wouldn't mind a few of them being mixed in among the Marauders. I would have loved a cameo by Ulik, but I don't want him to just be cannon fodder like the Kronan (who should be cannon fodder!)

I would really like to see the trolls in the battle of Vanaheim because apparently at the start of the film, Thor, Sif and The Warriors Three are 'putting out fires' and policing the Nine Realms, bringing back order after the Bifrost was destroyed putting the Nine Realms into chaos and it would make sense that the trolls would be involved in the battle with the Marauders the Kronans.

I don't think we will see Ulik because he is too good of an opponent for Thor to waste for just a cameo, but I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of trolls in the background or some that look like Ulik either in the battle of Vanaheim or Nidavellir (if what Alan Taylor said is true).

Same here, everything I want in Thor 3, it will be too much, especially if Thor 3 will be 111 mins as well haha.

I seem to want:
- Beta Ray Bill
- Hela (I think the filmmakers didn't use her because how did Loki have a daughter in the timeframe between the end of Thor and Avengers?)
- Ulik
- Enchantress & Executioner (I'm sure that Kevin Feige said once that she is a fan favourite character, but she is so similar to Loki that they didn't want to use her yet because they wanted to mix it up with the villlains and not look the same)
- Surtur
- Ymir (I would love it if Ymir was the new leader of Jotunheim and Niffleheim after Laufey died and came from retirement)

I think it is obvious that they seem to be building up to Surtur and that is great, that's what I want, but that's the problem... where do you go after Surtur if they use him in the third film? because to me, he is the biggest Nine Realms threat for Thor.
