Is the 360 really worth getting?

I am seriously considering getting an X-Box 360 this weekend, as I recently purchased a rather fine 26" HDTV, and I fancy dabbling into the Next Gen a little early.

I already have a Wii preordered for Decemeber, and I point blank refuse to buy a PS3, due to the price and the fact I only have interest in one game for the system (MGS4).

In your opinions, is it worth forking out for a 360?

I'm a biased Xbox fanboy, but there's enough objectivity all over to say that a 360 is without a doubt worth it. Even right now, before the real stuff starts coming in like, a month or so...

I don't trust EA to make anything more than an above average licensed game. Since this one took it's time in development, it might have a chance. But I still don't share the faith you have in this game. I am hopeful though. Supes is a close second to Batman for me so fingers crossed here.

I'm sure the game won't get anything higher than an 8.3 at Gamespot because, come on, it's EA Football's Team, but even so, I like some of the decisions they've made with this game and I can't wait to see how it ends up.

I feel ps3 is way to pricy and the 360's exclusive games are, i think, better than the ps3's (however there are a few exceptions)

Hmmm....the Wii. No. I just think nintendo are falling way behind with their games. Sure they're classics, but you know, it just depends on what you want. You know like, Wii is least powerful console concerning graphics and (from what i've heard) only supports 480p. And have a little games being released compared to the 360 and ps3. But Wii has something that will make or break it from the 360:

The demos are limited. And the whole extra features of the 360 are pretty useless. I have used my 360 for one thing and one thing only: playing games. Xbox Live is a waste if you dont play online.

And Halo 2 was still a fantastic game, so even by your own policy, he can call Halo 3 "fantastic".

Absolutly the 360 is worth it. If you got the money, fork it over for a 360, you WONT be dissapointed. Its next-gen hardware man, i mean there isnt much more you can say about that. Great games are out now and theres an ass load more to come. So go, now, buy a 360.

Halo 2 was still overrated and overhyped. He can call Halo 3 fantastic once it comes out. After Halo 2, I wouldn't count on calling any sequel "fantastic" before it comes out.

All that matters is that I, and many others, really liked Halo 2. Were there disappointing moments? Yes. Were there moments that kicked all sorts of ass? You bet.

People seem to think calling something "overrated and overhyped" is an instant, objective way to lower someone's opinion of a game. But let me ask you a question, how do you being to quantify those two statements? I'd really like to hear that.

I agree many more on the way. But the problem is over half of those listed games aren't even here yet. Some are months away, others haven't even had a release date pinned on yet. For the person that is on the fence about buying the 360 with the games out now, or even when Gears comes out, wait a few more months. There will probably be a price drop or some kind of holiday deal crap. If so pick it up then. If you're not convinced by now, wait a little longer.

Even so, the number of great 360 games that will be available a month from now will still far surpass those on the PS3 and the Wii. That alone should be incentive enough to put down money on a 360. The fact that even sweeter games are on the way early next year (nothing is more amazing than Mass Effect and Lost Planet will pwn) is just icing on the cake.

yes.

there're more 'must have' games either coming, or already out for the 360 than the xbox had in it's entire life cycle, in my opinion.
