should i buy an xbox360

Yea I think for ur situation. PSn is more than adequate. But if u spend a lot of time online with ur friends you'd see the differences. Party and cross game chat being one, but something as simple As sending and receiving messages via XMB is much more of a hassle than it should be. Live is much better in that regard. Now is it 60 dollars better? That's debatable.

thanks.

I think with Live, if I ever want to try it, I'll prob buy one of those 1 year Gold sub cards from Amazon ( they're usually like $45 vs the regular $60 ).

that would let me try it out for a whole year and I won't have to worry about monthly subscriptions. It's not something I'd pay for monthly, though.

What about the "lagginess" of Live vs PSN? Is Live "faster" than PSN?

The 1st game I played online through PSN was WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. It was so laggy and slow that it really affected the flow and playability of the game. Plus, the person I played against was a spoil-sport!!

I also tried Super Street Fighter IV and it was kind of slow..........

Generally no. Most games tend to play the same from one console to the other. There are occasions though when Live appears to be better, but for the most part, you couldn't tell the difference between the networks.

if you enjoy a full online experience get the xbox 360...thats why i have the 360...anyone who says "i prefer free"...thats cool
but i prefer paying for the best...everything about it from the communication...party chats...live marketplace...idk...i just prefer it...and ive had a ps3...no one ever talks online or anything...its so boring

I like it when nobody talks. I just want to play the game. Although back when I had LIVE I had quite a few online friends and fun experiences. In the end I just want to play online without having to pay for services I don't care about.

hey thanks!!

Some benefits to 360 include:
Better User Interface (the Xbox 360 Dashboard is incredible)
Secure Database
Better online experience (Xbox Live is more organised especially with it's use of parties)
Better quality and graphics on games available to both consoles (games are easier developed on 360 systems than on PS3, so developers will make the game on the 360 and then port it to the PS3, and not everything gets ported properly)
Better File/Codec Support
Option of Kinect (I couldn't care less for this one)

In terms of games it comes down to preference - Halo and Gears are great sellers for 360, and I personally prefer Forza to GT.

The cons to 360 include:
Pay-to-play online
No native 1080p support from discs (although, it attempts to upconvert 720p games - but don't be fooled, as only PS3 EXCLUSIVE games are in 1080p due to their use of BluRay. Keep in mind that games available on BOTH consoles will be in 720p on BOTH consoles, regardless of the fact that the PS3 can support 1080p disc playback; this is simply because (once again) the games were first made for the 360, then later ported.)
No BluRay

Personally I only decided to go for 360 because Tekken switched to both consoles. I was stuck between the two consoles, as both had great features, but I had a favourite game on either console (Halo and Tekken), and when Tekken became available on the 360 I bought it right away (also, I already had a BD-Player :P).

Honestly, in the end this is the best way to look at it:
Features that both consoles have, 360 does MUCH better
PS3 has some features that the 360 does NOT have

So, considering you already have a PS3, it all comes down to this; is it worth paying $200 for a better online experience on games available on both consoles, better video quality on the games available to both consoles with the 360, and games like Halo, Gears and Forza? If not, than just stick with your PS3.

Halo 3 is why I got a 360(plus my Original Xbox no longer read my discs) and while I enjoyed the game I regretted getting a 360. Because I lost all PS1 games(about 30 of them) my Gamecube games and Original Xbox games to get money for one in 2007. I feel so stupid now.

i am an online multiplayer type of guy...i get bored with campaigns so xbox is for me!
all the demo selections is a plus

PSN has demoes too! :D And better single-player games...

The PS3 is my single player system. Sure I play Uncharted here and there but I mostly play my single player RPGS (outside of Mass Effect due to ME1) on it.

My online machine is the 360 because to me, Live is just a MUCH better setup and place to get together with friends and have a game night.

Granted, I like the campaign of Halo and the 360 exclusive like Fable, but its mostly a MP and sometimes multiplatform title system.

Haha i did the same thing and regretted it, well the selling of my old systems, not buying a 360. I sold my Gamecube along with my copies of Resident Evil, Resident Evil Zero and Metal Gear Solid: TS. Last year i rebought a GC with those games that i sold. Shoulda just kept the damn thing.

I should of found a different way to get money quickly lol. You got MGS TS? How did you find that? I can't find it cheap anymore lol.

I had Megaman Legends 1 and 2 on PS1 and Zelda: Collectors Edition on Gamecube. I will be lucky to get those again. Everything else should be easy.

I'll be rebuying all of those old systems at some point. A guy runs a mom and pop old video game shop and you can get a PSX for like 15 bucks.

It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.

Both my PS1's don't read non-scratched games anymore and sometimes new ones(so I've been using the PS2 to play PS1 games). I wonder if the later PSOne model they made was better at reading games. I definitely plan on getting a Gamecube again, severely underrated system IMO. I got a new Original Xbox in February(as my old one no longer read discs), man the Xbox had alot more better and fun games than the 360's exclusives IMO. I need to get some AV cables for my Genesis so I can hear sound and music, its no fun playing Sonic without any sound....dumb AC adapters(or maybe my Genesis is just old and the sound is broken! :().

OLD SYSTEMS RULE! :D I plan on getting a Super Nintendo soon and some GBC/GBA games. :awesome:

Haha yea, i wont be trading in my PS3 or 360 come next generation, im just going to be holding on to them.

Haha, Amazon.com, but it wasnt that cheap. I HAD to have a version that had the original package and booklet in good condition and ended up spending like 30 bux after shipping.

Actually, this is an issue I've been confused about myself.

I own both a PS3 and a 360. I'm trying to build up my PS3 collection; I also like the fact that PSN is free. I hardly play online, but it's nice to know that feature is free and available if I want to.

One thing that has made me hesistant to buy more PS3 games is the "fact" that, for most multi-platform games, I've noticed the PS3 versions say they support 720p on the back of the box. Whereas the 360 versions say they support 1080p.

This also shows up on my HDtv. The PS3 games show they run at 720p while the 360 games show they run at 1080p.

Does this mean that the 360 games do indeed run at a higher resolution, thus equalling better graphics than the PS3 games?

Based on Asteroid-Man's post, it would seem both systems run games at 720p. But then, why do the 360 games say they support ( and run ) at 1080p?

That's the part I'm confused by.

cuz if there's no real difference in graphical quality, I will start buying more multi-platform games for the PS3 instead.

don't mean to hijack the thread. but perhaps it is relevant to the discussion of PS3 vs 360.

My advice to you is, before buying any multi-platform game, google it up and find what is the best version.
For example, i know that Bayonetta and Red Dead Redemption are better for the 360.

There isnt. Most multiplat games are identical to one another with the few exceptions. However, if there are some differences, historically, the 360 tends to be the system the game runs better on.

I've been trying to determine the same thing. Whether I should get an XBOX360 or PS3, especially after watching the E3 conference.

thanks!

so, if I ultimately decided to start getting more multi-platforms games for the PS3 ( especially upcoming ones like Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect 3, etc. ), I shouldn't feel bad for missing out on some huge graphical improvement offered by the 360 versions. Correct?

cuz I really do like the exclusives available for the PS3, as well as the free online.

So on the PS3 is the blu-ray player rate 720p and not 1080p?

I would expect Skyrim to run better on a 360 because of Bethesda's PC history. Probably Mass Effect too.

Though I don't really care about comparisons much so I don't follow them a lot, but from the majority of articles I've seen the 360 versions are almost always better. Sometimes only slightly. From what I've read the PS3's ram and some bus bottlenecks are what keep multiplatforms from parity. John Carmack has been mentioning it in RAGE interviews lately. If you want in depth anaysis in order to make a more informed opinion I'd suggest looking at sites that compare two on a technical level. I think more importantly than graphical differences are the performance differences which those types of sites usually cover as well. A lot of people seem yo use digitalfoundry.

Proceed with caution though, the rabbit hole is deep.
