Is the Wii just a fad or is it here to stay??

I think the 360 is the best sytem out right now, but Wii is definitely the most user friendly...while us hardcore, jaded gamers may say things like "fad!" and "gimmick!" about it, it's simply not true. It's not FOR us. Sure, there's a few games on it that we'll absolutely love too, such as the port of RE4, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros, etc. But the majority of the system is made for the casual gamer, of all ages. That's who it's for, and that's who's gonna decide the whole "console wars" thing. Wii is here to stay.

Have you ever plated one? I played one and for the first 10 minutes I was like "wow, this is awesome, new, exciting, and innovative." Then, I was like "aright, **** it, give me my old normal controller back, I don't feel like waving my arms around."

That's pretty much the defination of Gimmicky.

No, its not. Its for people who like solid gameplay. I would take a mario game over any FPS any day of the week.



Metroid? Zelda? Mario? Smash? What the hell are your sort of killer apps, because these are amazing games!

I think you're either into Nintendo or not. I don't think theres a huge middle ground there. Though the gameplay may be good and solid, if the game itself doesn't interest people, forget about it. Some people, like myself, just don't get the appeal of Mario. Or fighting as Mario. Or racing as Mario.

Nintendo has became the Disney of gaming, shoving "family oriented" crap down our throats as they market it with a trendy and lame controller. Except for a select number of games they have no variety what so ever. So enjoy your over sized DS.

Exactly...and RE: Umbrella Chronicles looks to be finally doing the Survivor idea right, by making it a balls to the wall FPS, instead of "OMG, it's RE but in first person!"

the new Mario Kart looks great too, as does Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games...and these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head...

I wasn't disagreeing with him about not getting suckered into the whole Mario/Nintendo experience, as I have pretty much the same views on that as you do. I wanted to know what interested him in the PS3.

I was going to get a 360, but my brother agreed to go halves, but only on a PS3.

That and I want the proper version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, not the 360 version where I'd be forced to use that turd controller. Oh and Blu-Ray.

I don't have much spare time anyway, so volume of games is hardly a problem.

It's a fad. I fell for it originally, but once you own one for a while and the novelty wears off, you realize that there's just nothing there. The Wii is just like any other console, with poorer graphics and an arbitrary change made to the way you control your character. I've yet to see a single new genre emerge from the Wii's supposedly revolutionary control scheme. All I'm really seeing is Gamecube games, slightly altered to fit the new controller, and released as something supposedly new and innovative.

People who just now are getting into games are playing the Wii, and so are people who have been playing games for 20 years.

I was unaware that all "hardcore gamers" cared about was shiny graphics and large explosions. Although, I guess that's what happens when junk like Madden and Halo become some of the most popular games of the year.

There's several things wrong with this. One, no, I didn't act like my word was law or that everyone should just accept it. I just presented an opinion. Thats what my posts are, opinions. I'm not going to put "IMO" in front of my every word as a disclaimer for those too dumb to already be aware of this. Two, I didn't say anything about those who play the Wii. Maybe you're confused, or thinking about someone else? Three, who's bent out of shape? Me? I'm perfectly calm and happy, how about you?

Fact is, anytime someone makes a stupid generalization about the Wii, there's always someone, in this case it was you, who comes along and responds with "that's just a stupid generalization, everyone plays it!"...and then they proceed to make stupid generalizations about the other two. It's ridiculous. No, regardless of what I think about the Wii, it isn't just for kids and old people. And no, the 360 and PS3 aren't just about pretty explosions and Madden.
