Back in the day, Batman's deadliest, most well known and popular enemies were Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, and Riddler. The four each challenged a certain aspect or morale of Batman and being the main villains in the Adam West series helped as well. Now Joker himself is on a tier of his own, he will always and forever be the top and number one. The other 3 may have faded in people's minds as villains like Two Face (Former Friend) and Ra's Al Ghul (Father like figure [more dangerous than Joker, but doesn't appear as much] start to show up and and add different and closer relationships to the psychology of Batman.

Now, when it comes to the "Big Four" would your say that there is still one? If so, which Batman villains are in this top tier to you? Do you base it on how much of a threat the four are to Batman, their popularity to the common folk or both?

Well, I definitely see why the Joker is villian number one. His insanity is enigmatic and fascinating, also, I think he's the most sadistic, the most evil, and the most entertaining. He clearly derrives pleasure from brutal acts of violence. You could imagine him as the kid that used to kill small animals, like the neighbor's pets, in his youth. He's clever in ways some of the others aren't, and causes the most destruction. Plus, with TDK, he's been illustrated in a realer way than any of the others. He's not always cartoony like the others, he's darker.

well, those were the "Big Four" BECAUSE of the TV show.

The Joker still is

but Catwoman, the Penguin and the RIddler aren't that dangerous anymore, considering that there are more vile villains around.

,y fearsome foursome
1. joker
no need for explanation
2. Penguin
hes sane and maniacal as well as being classy and dangerous, plus his schemes in the 60's were sometimes brilliant
3. Two Face
no need for explanation
4. RIddler
his intelligence and psychological torture to his victims

It was different back in the 60's. Catwoman was a straight up villain in the comics. The Penguin was a more active super villain instead of a crooked nightclub owner. The Joker is the only one who's retained his dangerous villainous status all thru the years.

These days I'd say the Joker, Two-Face, and Ra's Al Ghul are the "Big three". Much like Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Venom are Spidey's big three.
