Is Nolan Scared?

Nolan would be absolutely stupid not to include Catwoman in the next film.

1) Batman is currently without a love interest. Not that it's crucial in the long run, but Catwoman is high up there on love interests that are of actual importance to the mythos.
2) Batman is currently an outlaw, so it will be nice to see that parallel between the two.
3) Catwoman needs a faithful portrayal on screen.

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head that did it better than in he comics:

-Burton's Penguin.

-Bruce and Selina's relationship (not Batman/Catwoman) in Batman Returns.

-Burton's Batmobile.

-The X-Mansion being an actual school that teaches kids and not just a training faciity for sueprheroes.

-The look of Cerebro.

-Aunt May. Period.

-Peter and Harry's friendship (not necessarily the plot points that it encompasses, but how these characters interact and their history).

-How Peter discovers his powers for the first time and Uncle Ben's death being a carjacking (and Peter not stopping the criminal out of spite).

-How Bruce got the idea for bats in Batman Begins.

-Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

-Obediah Stane/Iron Monger.

-Tony Stark's motormouth smartass taking.

All my opinion and I'm sure some will disagree. But those are the rare times I thought the movies actually did it better.

Movie Blade is better than comicbook Blade. I'd also argue the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is better than the comics it's based upon.

I would've said that it would be impossible to top Michelle Pfeiffer, but i think Heath proved us wrong in these situations.

However I do think Catwoman got one of the best treatments on screen than any other character... sure Burton may have tweaked the origin to suit his tastes, although Nolan did the same thing to the Joker...

And tell me that Michelle didn't capture the essence of this character?

Burton's Catwoman was terrible! The comic book Catwoman has potential for the big screen. We all have to remember that these movies aren't ONLY for us Comic Book fans. Certain mesures have to be taken. For example, all of my non-comic book friends think the Penguin was the worst villain and that Catwoman was really forced. Seriously, Catwoman has potential but the Penguin has always been a crappy character.

WOW... our friends must be complete opposites...

All of mine absolutely love this Catwoman... all the girls look up to her, the guys fancy her, and all my gay friends think shes some kinda gay icon.

She has wide appeal...

To this day, the majority of them favor Batman Returns to The Dark Knight.

I don't think Catwoman or Penguin should be used. They were done pretty good in Burtons version. Lets just to move on to villians we'll probably not get a chance to see on the big screen again(Blackmask, Hugo strange, Holiday, The Hangman, Talia, Hush, etc. )

That already exists the first time.

Depends. Burton's Catwoman I wouldn't say is supernatural but is very surreal and based on expressionist ideas. She is also nuts and not really in good control of her sanity or emotions unless her costume is form-fitting perfect. The Catwoman in the comics is much more sane and in control, she is a cat-thief and not a wronged woman out for revenge who ends up becoming Batman's female counterpart in many ways.

I will say that Pffeifer was unforgettable in the role and the best way is to make her a sane, more reasoned-in-motive thief. Because Burton's is phenoemanl and as Halle Berry learned, a tough act to follow.

And as I said no one has done the Bruce/Selina relationship better than Burton did in that movie and the climax with Catwoman in the sewers is truly poetic and poignant in its rendering.

Maybe not entirely faithful, but brilliant all the same.

when we say faithful, we're talking about Catwoman of the comic books, not some idea of what Catwoman should be based off Batman Returns or TAS. If you knew the first thing about her in the comic books you'd know Michelle's Catwoman was FAAAAR from close. and not just talking about her origin either

What Batman villiain has been actually treated faithfully in any of the Bat-movies? Why this sudden urge with Catwoman's faithfulness?

Well opinions are opinions...

But to me, Michelle was perfect... and the best actor in the initial batch of movies.

I know the character can be more faithful to the comics and that is my recommendation to differentiate her from Burton's. But Pffeifer's portrayal of Burton's concept of Catwoman is SO good, it will be a tough act to follow and top. She was just so good in that part.

Burton's Catwoman was better than the comics just for not having stupid ass goggles on. Someone said it was sexism why Batman is accepted but Catwoman is considered over the top. Something like that. For whatever reason, I can better accept a guy who dedicated like a decade of his life to training to become an unstoppable force and has millions of dollars in equipment at his disposal to some skag with a tail. But generally when they put a "badass bxtch" character in a movie it comes off as stupid/******ed. They always say things like "bet you didn't think a GIRL could do that?" Its super annoying.

Yeah, Sigroney Weaver in Alien/Aliens, Linda Hamilton in T2 and Michelle Pffeifer in Batman Returns all came off so stupid. ;)

It can be done well.

"I am woman, hear me roar"

I'm inclined to agree. The best route to take would definitely be to separate the modern incarnation from Burton's, as what was done with Ledger and Nicholson. At the same time though, the relationship between Selina/Bruce was SO good in BR, it's undoubtedly my favorite take on them from any medium.

So it's a bit tough for me. Similar to the Penguin, I don't know if a more comic-accurate portrayal can really top what Burton captured. It doesn't have to be the same, but will it be as interesting? It's not gonna be cakewalk. Out of all the villains in the franchise, prior to TDK, Pfeiffer delivered the most memorable to me. She even tops Nicholson, imo. Whomever is taking up the next role, has huge shoes to fill. I think she'll have an even harder time than Ledger did with fulfilling expectations.

"I am Catwoman, hear me roar" :yay:

haha damn my wretched quick typing!...

and intoxications for that matter.

Speaking of Batman Returns, I think I'm gonna watch it tonight.

Burtons Catwoman is actually a pop culture icon, seen so many programmes on Tv were women have talked about the leather custume being the best on screen , its a favourite halloween custume, Gay Icon and most comic book fans praise Pffeifers performance

ah you got me, fair point. but I guess all I can say to that is this is CATWOMAN, she's huge. it's not like making a few changes to Ra's or Two-Face or completely fouling up the Penguin. and with Nolans changes hes never actually made a villain into something they're fundamentally not. he's re-presented the details but kept them all true at the core. I wouldn't say that for Burtons Catwoman.

Michelle was amazing at the time, and she suited the movie; I wouldn't complain that they didn't make her a combat and stealth trained streetkid turned burglar, not for Returns, when they even even present Batman that way why should they Catwoman. Also the whole feminism angle worked great as well. It's just that when people talk about a new Catwoman I want to point out that fyi the Michelle was HARDLY the Selina from the comics, and to see the real Selina would be awesome. Better than a repeat of the cat-biitch that's for sure

Sure. Same for Joker. Nicholson's Joker was as faithful/unfaithful to the core as Ledger's. But who wanted to have Jack's clownish angleb again when we could have had the whole new approach. But if we're about faithfulness, I could sing the old song about the "real" Joker having white skin, noit make-up.

About Burton's Penguin, thousands of times better and more interesting than comics' Penguin so I cheer unfaithfulness in that case.

I think that both Ledger and Nicholson's Joker were really within the range of the comic book Joker. Ledger's Joker was almost like an imp. He was too omnipotent, but I don't think that was intended, that was bad writing.
