IS there intelligent life on other planets?

I think the question should more likely be...

"If we do find Intelligent life on other planets... Will we bomb them because theyre evil (and conveniently have lots of natural resources)? "
Lol, hey at least George W will be out of office soon:woot:

Probably are others.

But is there a reason why ever since the alien thing, everyone thinks people from other planets would be green and slimey. If anything, they'd look like we do.
You can thank many years of science fiction for that.

Its because Scientists are lame and unoriginal...

seriously, some were asked to come up with what evolved dinosaurs would look like and they came up with the EXACT same thing.

Though maybe theres a reason for the coincidence...

Proof if ever there was some needed, that some people research a lot of pointless ****
.

Hey we were talking about this in astronomy about radio communications... I don't think we will ever see other people... but I think contact is still possible... even though we may have to wait hundreds of years between messages due to the lag... maybe even thousands.... heres the thing... if just ONE civilization could master interstellar travel... they could circumvent the galaxy in less than a few million years (traveling near light speed) because the galaxy is several billion years old... so that tells me that A) no one has figured out the trick to Interstellar travel OR B) There is an intergalactic community of civilizations that are ignoring us because we are too primitive (maybe they are just observing us) and we have to get to some technological or social/moral/ethical/physical point in our evolution before we can join that community... my gut tells me its B

Can someone prove to me that there's intelligent life on this planet?

Well, the question is pretty easy.

:whatever: :o

We got damn Wookies, Klingons, Covenant, Xenomorphs, Predators, Borg, Bugs, Zerg, TimeSplitters, and Rebel Scum out there....

 :o

Why? Evolution has very different outcomes in different environments. There's really no way of telling what an alien would look like until we meet one. Yes, there are some things we can guess at and assume, such as hands with opossable thumbs being a necessairy constant for all advanced civilizations, but even then, that's only an assumption based on out frame of reference.

I think there is intelligent life somewhere out there, however I dont think we'll ever encounter it. Imagine the technology we would need to travel to distant stars.

We'd need to be able to create wormholes. It is possible, but unless we find some other, subtler way to do it, the only current way we know how to do it requires a massive amount of energy.

SumOfGod was right, there are Reptillians :csad:

I think a better question is just how much intelligent life is there on THIS planet?

Fusion or anti matter rockets.... its all in the equation e=mc^2... scoop up particles in space... fuse em... and you got yourself an interstellarship... wormholes are probably too difficult to construct

I think there should be and they might be observing us for centuries :ninja:

considering the size of the universe i whould say there is a 99% chance that there are other inteligent life out there ...
i whould also say there is about 90% chance that we will never come in contact with any of them.. EVER

There is also a chance that our signals may not have even reached them yet... radio hasn't even been around for a hundred years... even if they pick up some messages today... it might be another 50-100 years before we get a reply... we need to wait another 100-300 years before we rule out radio contact

Couldn't the question just be "is there intelligent life out there?"

Why does it need to be on a planet? I think that limits what would account to be intelligent life, in terms of conversational depth. That's just me.

screw the Martians...

...Earthling Pride, mofos!!!

How do you define intelligence?

Apes can be taught sign language, but we still don't consider them intelligent enough to stop hunting them.

Dolphins have some sort of speech, but we still don't consider them intelligent enough to stop the fishermen that keep killing them with their nets.

My guess is that the intelligent life that is out there would either:

a) believe we are not intelligent enough for trade/communication/co-operation
b) would not be intelligent enough for us to believe we should treat them the way we treat other humans.

Yes, I am aware of the Fermi paradox, but the universe is almost too vast for humans to comprehend. So it isn't too amazing that we haven't found any aliens yet.

Yeah, that's part of the Fermi paradox.

I take the Lovecraft view; we don't even know what we're doing here, or what exactly life is, how could we even comprehend the secrets of the universe?
