Yeah. It's almost like they had other stories to tell and were building up to it instead of rushing to it in S2 or something.

I'm not bashing it, I'm just asking. I saw S1 and S2, but that was it. I thought Winter was coming in a month or something, not in 4 seasons.
I didn't think I'd post again, as a grown man for a comic book related message board. I felt turning 30 I'm too old for this
With all the new stuff coming out, I couldn't help but come visit SHH again.
I doubt anyone remembers me all that much, but I've not forgotten this site. Sawyer's grumpy today man.Watch out for Sawyer.

"Thousands of years ago, there came a night that lasted a generation. Kings froze to death in their castles, same as the shepherds in their huts; and women smothered their babies rather than see them starve, and wept, and felt the tears freeze on their cheeks... In that darkness the White Walkers came for the first time. They swept through cities and kingdoms, riding their dead horses, hunting with their packs of pale spiders big as hounds."
Sawyer's grumpy today man.Killing the vibe!

Seasons last year's in the world of Game of Thrones. The summer that the the show begins in was ten years long. And 8000 years before the start of the story there was a winter known as the Long Night that lasted a generation.
Aren't they also not literal seasons? But periods of hardship/ease?

Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.
As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must … and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.
The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne
