BvS It's always Darkest before The Dawn... Chris Terrio IS the Script Writer

He's probably a creative consultant as well. Few people in comics know DC lore as in-depth as Geoff Johns. I bet he's the guy the writers turn to about easter eggs and shared universe references.

This is exactly right. He's who Smallville turned to when they introcuced other DC Superheros.

Do executive producers even do anything? I know in music it usually means absolutely nothing except that it is used to show respect.

Executive Producers are usually suits that deal with finances. But the title is ofter passed around for creative input as well. Johns is ovbviously being linked to the film due to his connections and knowledge of the entire shared Universe, like making Stan Lee EP on Marvel films.

Yeah. Geoff is probably just assisting on ideas on how to connect this film to the JL film with Goyer.

Than of course Terrio will write the script(s) with some dialogue contributions from Affleck.

Forbes just put out a great article on this subject and how WBs is "rebranding" the universe:

As things started to evolve with this project as the months went by and with them more than likely filming the JL film right after BvsS and officially beginning to connect this DCCU.....Goyer and Johns were probably the ones heavily involved with connecting these two films together as far as the stories and ideas go.

Syncopy still will be involved with financing and distributing, so it is still possible Nolan and Emma will remain on as EP's during the credits.

I am so glad Terrio is doing the screenplay and rewrite. I am not a huge fan of Goyer.

Now if only Zack Snyder gets bumped to cinematographer/action scenes and someone else directs/edits. That would get me really excited.

It's funny, but I WANT Zack to do a Superman/Batman World's Finest movie. I just don't think he has the "soft touch" for a proper Superman sequel. So yeah, I sorta agree.

Have Snyder be the artistic influence and second unit director of JL (and give him co-director credits) and have Ben Affleck direct the upcoming DC movie (after Supes/Bats).

Zack's ego would never allow for such a thing, Coco.

But maybe Ben's ego would take over :D

Man, I must be living in another world. I had no idea Johns name had such a reaction around here. I've loved almost everything he's done, minus the Green Lantern film project.

He knows DC, is DC, I'm glad he's aboard. I know he has his hands deep in the Arrow TV world and that is just wonderful, so I'm excited.

He can help the project, though I don't know what his role was in the Green Latern. I don't know if his ideas were great but the script just sucked; or if he just complicated things.

That always baffled me, because Johns has never written anything I haven't enjoyed in the Green Lantern world. He was so excited when they were filming to, I should just be more wary of the "Sell" I suppose.

I do think as of late, he's been wearing himself thin…though he's most definitely a good thing when it comes to this.

Let's see..Snyder/Goyer/Johns/Affleck..and Cavill seems like a casual fan as well.

If their cumalitive fanboyism influences Terrio who creates a strong narrative with strong characters and good dialog, I'll be more than happy :)

I don't think fanboyism would have any effect on the merits of screenwriting this project, or any other adapted material for that matter. Beyond general understanding of character motivations and core tenets, what good is being a comic book encyclopedia in this field, really?

^ Ideas. Someone to say "No, let's have Batman not shoot missiles!" or "Don't have Superman reveal his secret identity to the world!":D

I think a mix of fanboyism and actual film-making talent would be ideal. Fanboyism can sometimes be an asset because it promotes utilization of comic elements that may please comic fans and impress the GA. A good example is Snyder's visuals for MOS. Some of those shots were right out of a comic book. As a fan, I appreciate those little things. And some comics are beautifully illustrated/written and taking advantage of that kind of source material can yield beautiful scenes like in MOS. The GA won't get the comic references, but they can appreciate the beauty nonetheless.

But someone like Terrio, who knows how to write a good movie is also needed because he can objectively look how the components of a well written film are applied here whereas Snyder might get lost in his fanboyism.

^ This! Snyder gets lost in his fanboyism, Goyer gets lost in Nolanism, and Nolan gets lost in his own world free from the DC burden :D

Maybe I'm being too forgiving, but I figure a few hours crash course should be enough for even the most ignorant average joe to correctly extrapolate the appropriate decisions and scenarios fitting for any given character.

You'd be surprised how much careful research can successfully substitute (not necessarily replace) years of comic book reading.

I like Snyder and his enthusiasm, but you can tell by how he talks sometimes (awesome this! awesome that!) and by his work that he has great visions in his mind that seem to be largely based off comic book imagery. But he gets lost in that and forgets technical components of a film, like dialogue. Images aren't always enough. People need to talk.

And people like Nolan include the components of film like dialogue and plot, but don't really bring the comic vision to life like Snyder does.

Hence...we need both viewpoints. It would be nice if they existed in one person, but they don't in this case.

I really think a Nolan/Whedon/Snyder fusion would be unstoppable. With a hint of Raimi to tie everything together ;)

^ If all of those individuals had real input, it could be amazing.

Sometimes I think Nolan didn't do enough for MOS. I thought his involvement would have meant a better script than what we got. Maybe he was just off his game, I don't know. Having talented folks collaborating only works if each actually contributes.

I think he was mostly just in it to help Goyer out. He seems to just want to get back to making non-superhero movies.

You might be right. It didn't seem like he helped that much. If that was the case, he should have stayed out of it and let them hire someone who wanted to get their hands dirty.

Both Snyder and Goyer like to be subversive as a gimmick. I feel like Snyder would get better if he stopped relying on gimmicks. It's like instead of his trademark slo-mo he used dim filters and filmed with only one cam for Man of Steel.
