I thought the direction was worse than the script.

Guh-huh.

Is it to bring joy unto you, oh Nolan? For your amusement and glory?

Didn't we already know this?
We didn't know Goyer was "demoted" to executive producer:whatever:

I've thought for a while now that Goyer has some talent. But his talent is largely in broad-scope conception and plot ideas and his weakness is with the details and nuances of character and dialogue. This is why I've always thought he should be allow to write to his strengths, but have a partner to fill in the gaps. So, I'm pleased that we are getting someone else to work on his writing and wish we would have had that for MOS.
There's a difference between not being exceptional and being weak at something. When it comes to this material especially. That new cap trailer for instance, not quite the naunced dialogue of Shawshank but acceptable for summer genre.

I've seen terrible movies with terrible dialogue(see masters of the universe/twilight/Pacific Rim for example). MoS isn't that. However..when fans have a bone to pick, hell hath no fury...

Not much of a demotion really.

And I guess that is a better way to put it: He's not exceptional with dialogue.

And to be fair, I wasn't trying to pick a bone. I like some of Goyer's work. And I wouldn't consider MOS's dialogue terrible (well, there were a couple terrible lines like "****slash", but besides that...), but it was sparse in some places and had bit too much exposition. I would say it was decent overall with a couple good lines. I would prefer exceptional and scintillating. And I admit that I have high standards for DC CBMs since TDK.

That moment at the end where Cap says 'if it shoots at us it's a bad guy' just made me cringe. I mean I know that kind of dialogue is a staple of the genre. But it's 2014. Can we at least come up with something a bit better.

Why don't you suggest something better then? Because that sounds like something a soldier/tactician would say anyways.

I feel like complaints like these are walking a fine line between wanting the characters to sound pretentious vs. wanting the characters to speak as if they memorized the dictionary. Dialogue is mainly about language of the everyday.

Indeed.
Especially when it comes to kids.

Still better than "I just think he's kinda hot".

I'd say they're on the same level. I don't really go into a cbm expecting to be wowed by its dialogue though, so it doesn't really bother me. Marvin is right though, if goyer had written that line from the cap trailer people would be up in arms about it.

It's essentially just 'if it moves, kill it' again. I love fan message board mentality of 'why don't you do it better'. C'mon dude.

I really don't think the 'it's for kids' reason is right either. They aren't allowed original dialogue?

And Goyer has nothing to do with it. Derivative dialogue is derivative from any writer.

I haven't seen Argo, so I can't comment.

However, it won Best Picture and Best Screenplay at several awards ceremonies, so the script couldn't have been that bad.
Oh garbage wins at the Oscars all the time. In recent years, Slumdog, The Help, Precious, Iron Lady, Alice In Wonderland, The Blind Side, Crash etc all won Oscars.

No I thought Argo was a very good film and had some very truly intense moments in it. Remember they had to work within the confines of it being an actual true story too. But yeah when Affleck finally got to Tehran and they had that contrasting shot of the KFC on one side of the street and the body hanging from a light post on the other side of the street I thought yeah that's an awesome shot. I felt throughout that the threat to their safety was real. the characters felt real. I recommend it to anyone.
Its pure hokum, you know that right? It did not happen the way its shown in the movie at all.

Since it's delay. Hope they can fix whatever problems they have in the script.

That's how people, soliders especially, actually talk. Maybe they should have gone into some long winded monologue about the nature of man and his obsession with violence?

Nothing will ever top "...And Hulk...smash". I get the whole trying to include Hulk's tagline thing...but that was ridiculous.

The female soldier going on about how Superman looks is definitely a top 3 contender though.

Is this a joke?

People cheered at that "Hulk? SMASH!" line though. Sometimes you just have to embrace the inherent sillyness of these characters and their worlds instead of trying to run away from it.

That's not "how soldiers talk", you'd be better off suggesting that's how a man from another(more simple) time talks to serve your point. but sure, that's how some people talk, no doubt.

"I think he's kinda hot" is how some women talk.

People have this wrong idea that dialogue is supposed to represent how 'all people talk', or to constantly make the consensus when in reality we're all individuals and all say different things. There are some people that think what Ross said on the school bus is 'bad dialogue' when in reality if you spend 3 days on a junior high school bus, you'll hear all sorts of crap come forth from the mouths of kids, especially the predatory groups.

I think the point stands, if that had been a goyer line, it would have come under some heat. Because soldiers are smart enough to discern whom the enemy is in a tactical situation with a modicum of thought beyond, 'if they are shooting'. Then again, this isn't a documentary about seals. It's summer fun based on 50's pop.
