It's Veteran's Day...it's not ok to say "Happy Veteran's Day!" Ok?

This has bothered me this morning going online and seeing "Happy Veteran's Day!" This is not a celebration. It's a day of reflection, remembrance and gratitude. There are no barbeques or keggers today. You don't go up to someone and say "Happy Veteran's Day" it makes no goddamn sense.:cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad:

Ever been to a New Orleans funeral? Or an Irish Wake? Or a Redneck Fellowship?

You can have a kegger. But yes...

Happy doesn't seem to fit.

Maybe we should feel victorious? That's in the ballpark. VJ and VE Day are happy, I suppose.

i usually just say "thank you for your service" if they're not active duty or didnt serve, i dont feel like anything needs to be said

They have Memorial Day BBQ's all the time. Yeah, they're dead, but no reason we can't crack open some Coronas and put some ribs on the grill, *****.

i agree, its all in celebration of what they have given up for our freedoms of being able to bbq, drink, etc.

I see what you're saying and don't really disagree, but I'll toss in my two cents.

Veterans Day can very well be a celebration. There's no reason why we, as a nation, and we individually can't celebrate the lives and actions of those who have served. I highly doubt any veteran would want the day to be a quiet, mournful day - though for many, like my father, it can easily turn into that due to quite reflection as you suggest it should be.

"Happy Veterans Day" is just a term, much like Happy Easter, Happy Halloween, etc. Granted I see your point about the "happy" part, but the day isn't meant to sit around and mourn the veterans. We all SHOULD be happy on this day, happy that so many brave men and women have stood up and been brave and done their duty. We SHOULD be allowed to be happy that many are home, and that those who have (sadly) died did so in the hope that we could retain our freedom.

In short, i think its ridiculous to say we can't celebrate our veterans; that it is merely a day of reflection. What better way to show our gratitude then celebrating them if able?

It's like Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick's Day, and what not. Most of the people that get jiggy on those days are nowhere near the demographic the holiday is based, but it's a day to chill, to be honest.

no i dont know better, screw Texas :hehe:

Watch your mouth, son. Or the ghost of Audie Murphy will snipe your Yankee ass.
