Abrams went to great lengths to keep the origins story of the mysterious creature that escapes the US AIR FORCE box car a secret (which is understandable). Throughout the night he called the being a "THING" or a "Creature." Never did he address the being as an alien or, mutant, or even a science experiment. He's trying his best to keep this thing under wraps. So don't expect a spoilery toy line to come out and blow the ending of the film. Abrams was pretty intent on keeping the big reveal of the creature a secret, until the first screening. But he did promise that Super 8 would deliver the monster money shot you crave. "The Thing," however, did have many nicknames, but unfortunately the only one suitable for print was the name Cooper. Take that for what it's worth.

The cube will turn out to be a space robocop hunting another alien that's running around doing all the killing and ****.

ok if this is what JJ says then i belive it.

could it be that the studio and JJ got nervous when a lot of (crazy ) people complained that they didnt know what was in the train? maybe they were afraid that this complainig could become bigger?

what this prooves to me is that change can not happen in the modern world. this was a 100% example where they didnt show or told you what was in the train. you had to pay money to see it. but kids today are so used that trailers show every thing with moneyshots that they can not sit still on their ass without knowing. and they got angry. and the movie to them became ''dumb'' because you had to whait to seewhat it was .

trailers not only show moneyshots but also what is the plot. new trailers are so desperate that they are showing the twists .
for example Avatar 2010. the first teaser showed that neytiris father will die in the battle. cliche but still they showed it. they were also so afraid that the final trailer spoiled almost the whole story. with almsot every plot.

i am a geek so i am on forums reading almost everything. but when my friends (who are not checking those movie sites) talk about spoilers and what is the ending of movies then it becomes pathetic. from studios.

I haven't been dying to see this movie like a lot of people have been but the footage does look pretty incredible and I get a huge Stand by Me vibe with the kids. A lot of cg is still pretty iffy but that is a very minor complaint because the movie doesn't come out for a while and I really hope the monster is more bad than good. I don't want a misunderstood monster like Cloverfield was. I want a monster who has been trapped by the military, gets out and wants some revenge.

its a advanced mixed dna super 8 squid like creature. Squid, like cuttlefish, have eight arms arranged in pairs and two, usually longer, tentacles. Squid are strong swimmers and certain species can 'fly' for short distances out of the water. hence the water tower. look at the trailer you can see the creature and it is not a alien.
