E.T. vibe from this film= SOLD!
Btw, I think the last shot in the spot is towards the end of the film...it just screams E.T. ending!

And I have an odd feeling the voice is the creature/alien/thing. It has an odd sounding voice.

Not a fan of E.T. but I'm loving the Spielberg vibe of the Superbowl spot.

That spot is probably the best piece of movie advertising I've seen in a while. This just became my most anticipated movie of 2011.

I'm so sick of Abrams' super secret movies. Especially since Cloverfield blew.

pttf.

Considering that Super 8 is directed (and written) by JJ himself, we'll see what happens.

I for one like Cloverfield for what it was. While some parts are super far fetch, it was nice to see an original movie done with a lower budget.

JJ only produced Cloverfield and it kicked ass anyway. So did Star Trek. I expect this will too.

I f**king loved this SuperBowl movie-tisement the best out of all of them. Unless the movie starts looking sucky when they release more footage this is my most anticipated film of the year.

It looks like a throw back to an 80's film, it's a original idea and it's not based on a comicbook. Consider me sold for now.

BTW

Abrams didn't direct Cloverfield and the Super secret thing worked for Inception last year. Plus, I really liked Cloverfield.

And how can you be sick and tired of something when it's only been done once before and in a movie that he didn't even direct?

I think the best thing is that..it feels honest and hints at mad movie magic.

My thoughts exactly. It looks like it's going to be touching and magical.

Again, like Inception last year, I'm going to wait for a full trailer before I 110% get behind the movie but I liked what I saw and if I keep liking what I see I think that Super 8 could be the break out movie of the year.

Anyone who isn't the least bit stoked at the idea of an Abrams/Spielberg collaboration doesn't deserve to see movies.

The music is from James Horner's 1985 Cocoon score.

They used the first 25 seconds of the track 'The Ascension' :)

Edit: It's on 'Through the Window' but they are similar cues.

I loved the spot. Just magical and I could just feel the Spielberg while it had that Abrams touch. Which means my mind is blown.

I have a feeling this will be something special. Good reviews too.

What has Spielberg done or is he just the producer? If he is a producer then I wouldn't invest all of my money with that fact because he has produced a ton of crappy movies. However, Abrams is usually always a good bet...dude is a genius.

Spielberg is executive producer. Which is nothing. This is JJ's brainchild right here.

Can't wait to hear Michael Giacchino's score to this film.

well that sucks, i thought it was music from Michael G.!!!! Oh well, the music really made the trailer look epic......... now i'm worried

I was excited for this movie but then he said this would be a movie focusing on kids so I think that takes away most of the intense action and build up if he said this goes along with the Goonies or ET. I really didn't want a confused alien or a baby alien doing shenanigans with a bunch of kids.

Oh well, I will go watch this if it gets amazing reviews but I am now 0% excited. That first teaser trailer was so intense and ominous and then we get a kids movie? Why JJ?

Do you do anything other than whine...:whatever:

Chaseter, just because someone says their film is inspired by The Goonies and E.T. does not mean that it takes the stories of said films. It's just an influence. There's an obvious amount of chemistry in The Goonies between the kids and quite a bit of humor and adventure to be had in the film. And with E.T., there's more awe, wonder, and drama within the context of the film.

Combine these elements within another story, and maybe we have a great film in the making.

Even though I am looking forward to this film, I have to say I don't get this 'Abrams is above all' bit. He's directed some solid films, and spearheaded a pretty great show (though he was far from the only one on the show, and I think that goes overlooked), but I don't think anything he has done is worth the fapping I'm hearing.

Yeah, I think Spielberg's name is just there to guarantee a sell until I hear something further. People are tripping over their **** before the loads been dropped on that aspect.

Cool tv spot, I'm definitely going to see it. A lot of the wide shots definitely have a cinematic feel similar to some of Spielberg's work, especially set to the musc. Can't say I like the use of the lens flare, though. I find it to be obnoxious and distracting.

I never even paid attention the lensflare thing in Trek until my fellow nerds on Hype pointed it out. Me thinks thats just nit-picking but no surprise coming from the internet crowd.

As for the JJ Abrams hype, geeks over hype every geek filmmaker not named Sam Raimi. Lost only had one great season in my opinion and Alias only had 2, Mission Impossible 3 was decent but forgettable and Star Trek was mega flawed (because of that messy script) but still is good because of the Abrams direction and the actors chemistry/performances.

He has the potential to became a great genre director but it hasn't happen yet, maybe Super 8 will be the movie that he just 100% knocks out of the park on all levels?

Well I hope the actual score pays homage too....Should have got John Williams himself to do the score! (Although the Cocoon score was by James Horner)
