Im not saying I'd personally stop it. And im sure Id go the the films just because I love comic stories.
Im speaking hypothetically If I were in some kind of control of the movie( like an exec maybe).
That would be interesting. The movie would definately have a different feel to it.
This is the hard part. I think its hard to replace characters. Yes it worked for Batman, but I thinks that is because we were already in the habit of having it change the last 2 movies before it. Plus, I dont think that the Batman movie franchise is as big and successful as Spiderman. Batman was on the decline so people didnt mind a new Batman character instead of Val Kilmer or Gerorge Clooney. But it wont be the same as replacing Tobey for Spiderman
If we are to compare the Batfranchise to the Spiderman franchise, we have to ignore Begins. Because Begins just wasn't that successful.
But, in the 90's, when the franchise was in full bloom, it was easily what Spiderman is now. The only reason the numbers aren't as big is because of inflation and hyped up ticket prices. But the point is, whatever you thought about Val Kilmer or Batman Forever, from a financial perspective, it worked. Only in hindsight is it hated or thought ill of. At the time, it was putting up big money, (more than Batman Returns) and was well thought of, and People embraced Kilmer.
So, from Sony's perspective, replacement isn't an issue. With Bond and Batman as templates, I'm sure they'll have no qualms replacing both in a heart beat to keep the franchise going. (look at how close Tobey was to being replaced on Spidey 2 when he asked for more time for his Back to recover.)
Replacement of actors, directors, and such are only issues in the fan community. And I'm not about to say replacing Raimi would automatically be a Bad move. It could be a good move one day to get new people. It's just a matter of getting the right people.
