Jack Black as GL? Why god...WHY?!

Whack Arnolds said:
Wasn't the same said about Keaton? And didn't hepretty much prove otherwise? What does physique have to deal at all with a majestical toy ring? You don't have to be beefy and ripped to recieve a ring that gives you powers.
You might ask yourself when was the last time you saw a fat [human] GL. You haven't. The Gaurdians require that the Lantern bearers be able to take both the physical and mental strains the ring puts them through. Not only does the ring demand a great mental willpower (something I know an awful lot about) but a physical stamina (say of an athlete--due to the strain inflicted by the ring). Jack Black looks like neither the type of person who has an unbreakable will or physically taxable body.

Being chisled doesn't always lend itself into being a "taxable" body. You could look like Black and still take punishment. And wtf are you talking about? Are you a member of the Green Lantern Girl Scout's? lol What are you referring to when you say it is something you know an awful lot about? haha

I'm a college rugby player, former boxer, high school soccer player and I work out 5 days a week every week and obey a diet so strict I haven't had pizza, fast food or soda in years....oh and in middle school I was fat....so yes I know an AWFUL lot about willpower.

Jack's mass has nothing to do with anything,
Incorrect. Green Lantern, like most comic characters, is a visual character. If he doesn't look right, that's a problem.

and Keaton still wasn't physically imposing in the suit
Sure he was.

The only problem is, Batman needs physical credibility because he is a normal man and doesn't have powers. Jack Black could look the way he does, and still be powerful...cause the power is derived from the lamp and the ring...not from his muscles.

And why couldn't Jack Black believeably take the "physical punishment"? I'm sure it isn't that much punishment. Do they only award the ring to people who have to look like muscle heads?
This, again, proves you really shouldn't try and argue about a character you know nothing about. Let's look at Green Arrow, who's in pretty damn good shape. When HE tried to use the ring, he managed to fire off one arrow (created by the ring, obviously) before collapsing with blood pouring from his nose, saying that he felt exhausted, as if he had not slept in days. Kyle explained that's what it's like everytime one uses the ring. Just as I don't expect to see Jack winning a marathon, I don't expect him to operate a device that takes such a toll on the body

Oh, and besides that: Green Lantern is a superhero. Superhero's are generally in shape. Could he act the part? Maybe. His role in Kong wasn't overly serious, but I suppose it's a possibility. But that doesn't mean he should get the role. Appearance, whether you like it or not, is a factor. Nicholas Cage, I'm willing to bet, could play a better Superman than Brandon Routh, but he doesn't have the look.

Do be succesful, you've gotta have both.

Wasn't up to your standards? Sure... but he pretty much set the standard until Bale came along. I don't see why Black can't do the same, this could be his next serious break through role. He looked convincing when he unleashed his rage in the spider-bit... I'm sure he could pull off a serious role.
I didn't realize that Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Wesley Snipes, Hugh Jackman, and Toby Maguire(some of the actors portraying superheros between Keaton and Bale) had the same body type as Keaton....huh, learn something new everyday.

I believe Black has the possability to pull off a serious role...hell, I would love to see him tackle a purely serious leading role....but he shouldn't do it as an established comic book character such as Green Lantern.

You are obviously a Jack Black fan....there's nothing wrong with that...until it blinds you from the obvious. He is a short overweight comedic actor....if he tried to make a film about a serious well established comic character...it just would not work.

I believe you were warned earlier this evening about the petty little name calling insults....if you can't conduct a civil conversation or debate....then leave.

Also, GL's need to be in shape to handle problems that might arise if there rings run out of charge. They need to be able to handle situations physically.

What Whack doesn't seem to realize--which is unsurprising, since he knows nothing about GL--is that the GLC is the same as any earthbound police or miltary force; they have standards for their recruits, including physical ones.

I was strictly referring to Bale/Keaton and the Batman role.

BTW, you all are right...I'm wrong. Have fun with your Green Lantern stuff. You guys know what is best, 100%. Sorry I brought in a different view. Green Lantern rocks, great character, etc. You guys are so smart, innovative, and can even see the future. Talented people.

Ah, I also forgot to mention that part of their training is physical fitness.

I also believe you warned others besides me, yet you conviently don't question them with their continued subtle jabs. See Saint's post, right below yours. :o

Don't worry about it, Rocky. Go do some situps, and drink a protein shake.

You might want to try to stop with the lip there bud. Just a friendly suggestion. This analogy might help you understand why: If this is Oa, C.Lee is a Guardian...you don't want to be back talking people while he is around.

That posts contains not a word of insult, only the truth of the matter.

It's spelled "Gestapo," and that's totally uncalled for on every level. :down

Perhaps you need to take a refresher course in world history.

The "Gestapo" were part of the Nazi movement. The Nazis excelled and revelled in the debasement and ridiculing of other people....seeing as how I am telling you not to ridicule and call other people names....then I find it hard to see where I am analogous with them.

You were only addressing me with the ridiculing? As in I was the only one who was doing so? Your old, wise ass, neglected to read the previous posts where I wasn't the one who brought it into the personal playing field.

Ouch....well I'd say it's been fun but:( :down

Gestapo were police (moderators), that helped enforced the oppressive Nazi propaganda (no fun, SHH policy). I can make valid comparisons as well, dad.

Yeah, I may get banned or suspended... but mods would refuse to take in the context, with the mental implications of having to defend yourself in argument sake with 3 or more opponents, thus making me be very aggressive. They definetely wouldn't do that.

You've been warned by 2 different mods in about as many hours to stop with the name calling and attacks on others....take a few days off to cool down.

Calling me a "girl scout", Saint a "virgin and dork" and C.Lee a "wise ass" despite whatever provocations came before it only makes you an a$$hole, not them. Not only did I give you no reason to call me a "girl scout" but I saw no other poster indicate anything beyond you not knowing much about, or not being a fan of Green Lantern...which considering this thread you don't seem to care much about. Hell I am not even a GL fan really, nor a DC fan, but I don't make it my point in life to troll up and down a thread provocking posters by making unwarrented assumptions about them. It says a lot more about you than it does about anyone else posting here. Especially considering that in order to insult someone you inherently project insecurities about yourself onto them.
