The reactions from fans everywhere was the same, unequivocal outrage that D.C. would ever even consider taking this approach with one of the most beloved comic book superheroes.

Well, it looks like the studio and D.C. comics have heard the fans and have decided against taking that route.

Speaking with Jack Black today, during the Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny junket, we had to ask for an update on The Green Lantern.

He admits that there was a script written for him, but, the fans had not reacted favorably to the idea of him playing the hero. So, as of now, it’s not something that is moving forward. Can you say big sigh of relief for the fans?

All I can say is thank you god. The Almighty doesn't answer many of my prayers, but my inner child is seriously thanking him right now. Now all we need is a good writer (David Benioff) and a great director (A Sam Raimi type) and my boy GL will be lighting up Silver Screens all over the world. This is certainly the brightest day...:yay:

He would of had to lose a bunch of wieght, and acting skills finally!

I thought Nacho was alright but then found it was kind of stupid. His part in kong was perfect for him! I just find him annoying most of the time!

Well, there is a God indeed... The most irritating is Black sounds like he still thinks it´s a good idea... Look, man, you wanna play a satyrical, tongue-in-cheek hero, that´s fine with us, rewrite that script and make up a phony hero that can even be vaguely inspired by Green Lantern and do it! Just don´t take an actual character that has a loyal and caring fanbase and trash it. Look at Batman & Robin and Catwoman...

Great. I hope they start scripting a real story soon.

If WW never materializes, Green Lantern and Flash would make up for it tenfold.

Well this is a relief, hopefully now they will push forward with an actual Green Lantern movie. One that is to be taken seriously.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we really dodged a bullet here.

I'm bemused.

Of all the superheroes yet to make it to the screen, Green Lantern is by far the most obvious choice. The ring basically creates CGI! That's how obvious it is. You have a simple, strong hero's journey, plenty of crazy, scary and funny aliens, it's not dark like Batman, and the hero is a square jawed avergae Joe, Hollywood's favourite.

Wonder Woman might work. The Flash could be effective. But Green Lantern - obvious cinematic potential.

Just goes to show how screwed up Hollywood can be sometimes.

Praise the Lord!

As much as I like Black, I don't understand why Warner Bros. would even think to option a 'comedic script' based on this property.

Honestly, it would be more a parody of Green Latern, which would of been a complete waste.

Thank God WB pulled the plug on it. It was honestly Catwoman and Batman and Robin in the making.

I just hope it won't discourage WB from actually making a serious GL movie though..

Thank goodness.

Here's hoping they really truly have given up on this idea for good.

Those rumors were true?!?! A friend of mine would send me these stories from AICN but when I went there I could never find them so I always brushed them off. Just out of curiosoity, which GL was he going to be anyway?

It's such a stupid and random idea. It never would have occurred to me to take that route...and it's kind of scary that it went as far as it did.

Well I'm relieved. It's been like a year & a half since that rumor came out, but when I heard it, I died a little inside.

I feel better now.

I'm glad to hear that this thing is finally dead and put to rest. I guess DC learned their lesson after the CINO fiasco and decided to pay attention to what the fans were saying for a change. Good to see that, though it's surprising. Here's hoping we get a serious GL picture someday in the not-too-distant future.
