To be honest the cheesiness which has been past DC flicks isn't entirely their fault, a while back DC signed some sort of stupid deal that gave Warner Bros the exclusive rights to all of their comic book properties or something like that. Which means that they could make a Superman movie where Superman has a bastard son, uses his super sex appeal to break up marriages and faces his most powerful enemy...A big rock OR a Catwoman movie where she never shows up Over and Over and Over again.

The only reason they're trying not to ***** out anymore stupid "Batman and Robin" flicks is because Marvel is kicking their ass at the box office with properties less well known than theirs. (I mean how do you screw up Superman, they found a way!)

I'm actually starting to hope they never make a GL movie...I mean really, if you cant get Superman correct how in the hell are they going to make GL right?! There's tons more stuff to screw up with his history. Anyway, here's to Bryan Singer...half assing it the first time...and getting another chance to do it again! Hopefully my main man Green Lantern will find his Sam Raimi, but I'm not holding my breath.

Well, there is a God indeed... The most irritating is Black sounds like he still thinks it´s a good idea... Look, man, you wanna play a satyrical, tongue-in-cheek hero, that´s fine with us, rewrite that script and make up a phony hero that can even be vaguely inspired by Green Lantern and do it! Just don´t take an actual character that has a loyal and caring fanbase and trash it. Look at Batman & Robin and Catwoman...

Stated perfectly.

The reactions from fans everywhere was the same, unequivocal outrage that D.C. would ever even consider taking this approach with one of the most beloved comic book superheroes.

Well, it looks like the studio and D.C. comics have heard the fans and have decided against taking that route.

Speaking with Jack Black today, during the Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny junket, we had to ask for an update on The Green Lantern.

He admits that there was a script written for him, but, the fans had not reacted favorably to the idea of him playing the hero. So, as of now, it’s not something that is moving forward. Can you say big sigh of relief for the fans?

All I can say is thank you god. The Almighty doesn't answer many of my prayers, but my inner child is seriously thanking him right now. Now all we need is a good writer (David Benioff) and a great director (A Sam Raimi type) and my boy GL will be lighting up Silver Screens all over the world. This is certainly the brightest day...:yay:

How about a story by Geoff Johns and the script from Andrew Kevin Walker.....with Alex Proyas directing? I would be pumped!

I'd rather a Green Lantern live-action flick never saw the light of day than see a Jack Black Green Latern film full of fart jokes. Of course, the best thing would be a serious, epic Green Latern film starring Nathan Fillion and Hugo Weaving. Here's hoping.

Just goes to show how screwed up Hollywood can be sometimes.

Very true...I just bought the Collector's Edtition of "The Crow." (One of my favorite movies.) And in an interview with James O'Barr, he mentions that some studio guy thought "The Crow" would work great as a musical starring Michael Jackson.

So yeah...a potential Crow musical...crap like Catwoman...Hollywood reallllly sucks sometimes...:whatever:

I love this post. The WB's rape of DC is one of the most atrocious situations in the entertainment industry. DC NEEDS to get control of their properties...desperately.

Well ultimately they're all Time-Warner properties, right?

What can a subsidiary do when the big bosses say jump, but ask how high?

Thanks, yeah, you don´t see comic book fans protesting against Captain Hero from Drawn Together, even though it´s an obvious Superman parody, but if that same character was meant to actually be Superman, portrayed like that, there´d be riots on the streets, that´s the difference.

Lets look at the recent track record...

Constantine (to some extent), Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Superman Returns...

Seems to me that either DC has control of their properties, or WB has greatly increased their quality.

I didn't mean to imply that every DC movie was crap. But what's both true and quite crappy, is that DC has no say in the big screen treatment of their properties. If DC actually had a say in a movie version of "Catwoman," we wouldn't have got the disaster we did...(I bet at least we would've gotten a Selina Kyle.) And the fact is that WB doesn't really care that much about their comic book properties. All that matters to them is the amount of money they can make off of them. So I believe it's the latter part of your statement...that WB has increased their quality...is what's taking place now. Because they know that they can't make profits with crap like "Batman and Robin" and "Catwoman."

* And in reference to the recent track record though, "Superman Returns" is a questionable one...it was a successful movie, but one that screwed up every characterization that was featured within it. I'd like to think that if DC had more influence, we would've gotten a story that was more true to the Superman of this day and age.

A lot of fans disagree with that statement, it doesn´t deserve to be put in the same league with B&R and CINO.

Oh, I know. I guess my thoughts kind of ran together there, but I was making two different points. I, in no way, shape, or form, meant to imply that SR was in the same boat as CINO and B&R. (I actually went back and edited that post, so hopefully it doesn't still look like that...)

However what I was saying was that SR probably isn't in the same boat as V for Vendetta or Batman Begins. SR's story just wasn't well thought out, and as I said, the characterizations were way off. (At least "way off" by today's standards...but if this was 1980, no gripes...)

This shows just how important it is for fans to make themselves heard when Hollywood does something they don't like. The most disturbing part of this story is that there was a Jack Black GL script, and that they would have gone with it if not for the fan backlash.

If he lost some weight, he could have been an okay Original Green Lantern, but he would have to be less..... screechy. But no way could he play Hal Jordon. Joaquin Phoenix should play Hal, if he isn't Dent.

And George Lucas would be a good Director for a Green Lantern movie.

Well now I guess the thing to wonder is whether this means they're not doing a Green Lantern movie, or that they're gonna do a serious one. As good as a Green Lantern epic space saga would be, Green Lantern is a character that lacks popularity with the general population. I'd hate to see a great GL movie made, only to have it underperform because it wasn't hyped up enough. I mean look how Batman and Superman were barely hyped, at least those guys had name recognition to draw people into theaters.

Maybe one of the new DC animated films coming up will star Green Lantern, and as more than just a member of the Justice League. Get the guy's name out there and gauge interest for a serious movie.
