Look, man, you wanna play a satyrical, tongue-in-cheek hero, that´s fine with us, rewrite that script and make up a phony hero that can even be vaguely inspired by Green Lantern and do it! Just don´t take an actual character that has a loyal and caring fanbase and trash it. Look at Batman & Robin and Catwoman...

DarkSuperman said:The reactions from fans everywhere was the same, unequivocal outrage that D.C. would ever even consider taking this approach with one of the most beloved comic book superheroes.
Well, it looks like the studio and D.C. comics have heard the fans and have decided against taking that route.
Speaking with Jack Black today, during the Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny junket, we had to ask for an update on The Green Lantern.
He admits that there was a script written for him, but, the fans had not reacted favorably to the idea of him playing the hero. So, as of now, its not something that is moving forward. Can you say big sigh of relief for the fans?

All I can say is thank you god. The Almighty doesn't answer many of my prayers, but my inner child is seriously thanking him right now. Now all we need is a good writer (David Benioff) and a great director (A Sam Raimi type) and my boy GL will be lighting up Silver Screens all over the world. This is certainly the brightest day...![]()

DarkSuperman said:To be honest the cheesiness which has been past DC flicks isn't entirely their fault, a while back DC signed some sort of stupid deal that gave Warner Bros the exclusive rights to all of their comic book properties or something like that. Which means that they could make a Superman movie where Superman has a bastard son, uses his super sex appeal to break up marriages and faces his most powerful enemy...A big rock OR a Catwoman movie where she never shows up Over and Over and Over again.
The only reason they're trying not to ***** out anymore stupid "Batman and Robin" flicks is because Marvel is kicking their ass at the box office with properties less well known than theirs. (I mean how do you screw up Superman, they found a way!)
I'm actually starting to hope they never make a GL movie...I mean really, if you cant get Superman correct how in the hell are they going to make GL right?! There's tons more stuff to screw up with his history. Anyway, here's to Bryan Singer...half assing it the first time...and getting another chance to do it again! Hopefully my main man Green Lantern will find his Sam Raimi, but I'm not holding my breath.
Thanks, yeah, you don´t see comic book fans protesting against Captain Hero from Drawn Together, even though it´s an obvious Superman parody, but if that same character was meant to actually be Superman, portrayed like that, there´d be riots on the streets, that´s the difference.Peyton Westlake said:Stated perfectly.
mathhater said:I love this post. The WB's rape of DC is one of the most atrocious situations in the entertainment industry. DC NEEDS to get control of their properties...desperately.
StorminNorman said:Lets look at the recent track record...
Constantine (to some extent), Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Superman Returns...
Seems to me that either DC has control of their properties, or WB has greatly increased their quality.
mathhater said:I didn't mean to imply that every DC movie was crap. But what's both true and quite crappy, is that DC has no say in the big screen treatment of their properties. If DC actually had a say in a movie version of "Catwoman," we wouldn't have got the disaster we did...(I bet at least we would've gotten a Selina Kyle.) And the fact is that WB doesn't really care that much about their comic book properties. All that matters to them is the amount of money they can make off of them. So I believe it's the latter part of your statement...that WB has increased their quality...is what's taking place now. Because they know that they can't make profits with crap like "Batman and Robin" and "Catwoman."
* And "Superman Returns" is questionable too...it was a successful movie, but one that screwed up every characterization that was featured within it. I'd like to think that if DC had more influence, we would've gotten a story that was more true to the Superman of this day and age.
ultimatefan said:A lot of fans disagree with that statement, it doesn´t deserve to be put in the same league with B&R and CINO.
