The trailer has made me more comfortable with Cruise as Reacher, although I'd still have given the role of Reacher to someone like Ray Stevenson instead. At least we have Herzog as the villain, a shining example of genius casting.

Looks fantastic. Tom Cruise is without a doubt my favorite action star of all time. The man brings his A+ game every time and he does basically all his own stunts. I don't care if he is short, he is more threatening and brutal than a Stevenson or Hemsworth ever could be

Stevenson would've been great.

I'm still having trouble seeing past Tom Cruise. I want to like this, but I think it's gonna take me a minute to see past Tom Cruise.

Yeah, Stevenson was one of my top candidates for Reacher. I know that Stevenson's box office draw isn't as strong as Cruise, but I'd love to see him in the role anyway. As a fan of the series, it's also a bit difficult for me to see Cruise as Reacher, but I view movie Reacher as the same Reacher in the books in name only. I'll give this a shot, I have no doubt this movie should at least be entertaining.

The second trailer was badass, I don't read this book series so for me this is all about the film and I love what I see.

It's a moot point now, but watching Skyfall yesterday, I was thinking that Daniel Craig reminded me of Reacher at moments during the film.

Then it occurred to me why I am bothered by Cruise's casting. It's not his height, it's that he appears to be a small person. Craig isn't a tall guy, but he looks powerful, and that's the difference.

Plus the voice. He doesn't sound like Reacher. He sounds like Tom Cruise. And I know literary characters don't have defined vocal timbres, but still.

Did the books actually go so far as to intimately describe his voice? Or do you just mean he doesn't sound the way you think Reacher would sound?

Anyway, I would disagree completely that Cruise doesn't or can't look powerful. I haven't seen enough of this movie to be sure but at least in the Mission: Impossible films he looks like he could break people in half.

Yeah his voice is described in the books. It reads as separate stories so anyone can jump in and read any book. As such they cover all the bases about his past, his look, etc.

Basically with some actors, you are paying to see them play themselves in various situations. This will make some bank because people want to see Cruise beating the **** out of random mooks. If it sells, why **** with the formula? If he was less known, he'd probably go a little more method.
